BAB II PEMBAHASAN A. Parallelism Parallel structure means using the similar part of sentence.

This can happen at the word, phrase, or clause level. Coordinating conjunction such as and, but, and or are commonly use to make the same type of the sentence.

Examples: In words and phrase with the ing-form of words Mr. Manan likes rafting, bicycling and hiking. Her hobbies are reading and writing novel.

With infinitive phrases Mr. Fata wants to sit, to write and to post the latter. Mrs. Felia likes to sing and to cook.

Clause Mr. Husnizar told his students that they should get a lot of sleep, not eat too much, and do some practices before the exam.

Mr. Syahminan said that he did not like lazy person and talkative person.

Statements after a colon. Oxford dictionary can be used for: to find word meanings, irregular verb, correct spelling and pronouncations. The seminar was about: politics, economy and religion.

B. Parallel stucture One use of a conjunction is to connect words or phrases that have the same grammatical function in a sentence. This use of conjunctions is called parallel structure. The conjunctions used in this pattern are and, but, or, nor. These words are called coordinating conjunction. a) Steve and his friend are coming to dinner. Noun + and + noun b) Susan raised her hand and snapped her fingers. Verb + and + verb c) He is waving his arms and (is) shouting at us. Verb + and + vrerb d) These shous are old but comfortable. Adjective + but + adjective e) He wants to watch TV or (to) listen to some music. Infinitive + or + infinitive f) Steve, joe, and Alice are coming to dinner. g) Susan raisaed her hand, snapped her fingers, and asked a question. h) The colors in that fabric are red, gold, black, and green. A parallel structure may contain more than two parts. In a series, commas are used to separate each unit. The final comma that

precedes the conjunction is optional; also correct: steve, joe and alice are coming dinner.2

Subjunctive mood The subjunctive is used to emphasize urgency or importance. It is used after certain expressions. Verb followed by the subjunctive To advise, to ask, to command, to demand, to desire, to insist, to propose, to recommend, to request, to suggest, to urge.

Example: Dr. Warul asked that saifullah submid his research paper before the end of the month. Fatimah ibda requested that intan be at the party. Soraya insists that her students arrive on time.

It is best (that), it is crucial (that), it is imperative (that), it is important (that), it is recomended (that), it is urgent (that), it is vital (that), it is a good idea (that), it is a bad idea (that).

The subjunctive used in negative, continuous and passive forms .

Negative examples: The boss insisted that khamisah not be at the meeting The company asked that employees not accept personal phone calls during bussiness hours I suggest that you not take the job without renegotiating the salary. Passive examples: Kurdi recomended that faziah be hired immediately Fitriyah demanded that I be allowed to take part in the negotiations.

Continuous examples: It is important that you be standing there when he gets off the plane. It is crucial that a car be waiting for the boss when the meeting is over. I propose that we all be waiting in hadids apartment when he gets home.
