COMMUNITY BLOCK PARTY |

More than 700 people came to Reynoldsburg UMC for the Community Block Party on May 26, 2013. The event marked the end of the message series Wont You Be My Neighbor? and was aimed at helping the church family get to know their neighbors.

Pastor Tim Levert and student volunteers had several carnival games for kids of all ages to play. The Reynoldsburg Police Department attended with their DARE cruiser and a motorcycle from their motor unit. The Truro Township Fire Department were also at the Block Party with a ladder truck. Block Party attendees were treated to a hot-dog-eating contest and a pie-eating contest!

The Reynoldsburg United Methodist Women arranged for a potluck lunch with Pastor Matt Wright and the United Methodist Men manned the grills.

People were also able to make a donation to the Reynoldsburg UMC Mission team heading to Oklahoma to help with tornado recovery. Thank you to all the volunteers who made this great event happen! u ARTICLE SUBMISSIONS: Send articles to be considered for the print and email versions of The Vine to thevine@rumc.org or drop them off in the mailbox marked THE VINE in the staff mailroom. MISSION OKLAHOMA

On May 20, 2013, a tornado more than a mile wide blew through Moore, Oklahoma and surrounding towns. The tornado did major damage, killed two dozen people, and injured dozens more. Families were left without homes, electric, and water. Less than two weeks later, another round of tornadoes hit central Oklahoma, leaving even more destruction and death in their path. Early in the morning on Friday, June 7, a group of students and adults left Reynoldsburg UMC to head to Oklahoma. The images on the news of the complete devastation are heartbreaking, said Pastor of Youth Tim Levert. Our students want to help in any way they can. Just like we did in Alabama a few years ago and New Jersey just a few months ago, we are going to travel to Oklahoma to show the victims they are not Reynoldsburg UMCs Mission teams have had a busy year. In February, a team traveled to New Jersey to help with Superstorm Sandy clean-up. The missions committee is planning more trips to New Jersey. Contact Dave Pagura (missions@rumc.org) if you are interested. In May, a team of seven went to Duplan, Haiti to finish and dedicate a well and make repairs to the school building.

alone in this and they are loved. The team stayed at First Baptist Church in Chickasha, and helped helped with debris cleanup. The group visited Plaza Elementary School, where 7 children were killed in the storm. Student Skyler Myers said they prayed with one of the teachers who helped shield her students from the deadly winds. You knew what youre doing is good and you know youre doing it through God and its just amazing, he said. u

Fifteen people from Reynoldsburg UMC went to the Henderson Settlement, Kentucky to help build a home in the impoverished area.

A team will head to McCurdy, New Mexico in August. Instead of donations of school supplies, the team is asking for gift cards to Walmart, Lowes and Target. It is easier for the mission team to travel with these gift cards. The cards will also allow them to purchase any items that are needed. Place the gift cards in the locked wall box in the Reynoldsburg UMC mail room by Sunday, August 11. If you are interested in these or any other missions opportunities, contact Dave Pagura at missions@rumc.org. u.

In Appreciation
We thank our church friends for the loverly Christmas poinsettias and the Easter lily, which were delivered by their long-time friend Mary Bell. Also, we thank John and Shirley Vingle for bringin us communion, a thoughtful, loving gesture. Sincerely, Bob & Mary Ann Mullenax I cant begin to express my appreciation for all the prayers, cards, meals, visits that I received from members of this congregation and so many friends. Special thanks to Pastor Maxine for her visits and encouragement. If nothing else, my three weeks in the hospital and many hours of therapy have taught me patience and that prayers are definitely heard and answered. It will take many more hours of each but I know I can do this now with God on my side. What a wonderful church!!!!! -Joan Canter Dear Church Family, Thank you for your wonderful support during my sisters illness and passing from this world to her heavenly home.
