THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

Hi Everyone! I want to thank those who helped out this week for VBS. It looked like everyone was having a great time. It was nice to see so many new faces. Today as I write, I am moving into our new home here in Lancaster. We had several people come and help us into our new place. All of you were awesome! Your friendship is greatly appreciated. We could have never done it without you. On June 30th, we will have a reception and potluck dinner for Scott Brown and his family. We hope each of you will join us as we seek to encourage them in their transition. The potluck will begin at 5 pm. I wanted to let you know that according to our church treasurer, we raised over $4400 for the tornado victims of Oklahoma. Great job church! Have a great day in the Lord as we worship Him together. Brad

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

RECOGNITION: I would like to recognize and thank one of our unsung heroes here at Fifth Avenue. For many years, Bill Kelly has been responsible for our church vehicles. He has, faithfully, made sure that they are properly serviced and always road worthy. All those who have enjoyed safe travel in our vehicles should join me in saying, Thanks, Bill Kelly. TOURING THE AIRSTREAM PLANT: On Wednesday, June 26, we will be traveling to Jackson Center for a tour of the Airstream plant. Our group will be departing at 7:30 am. The only cost for this trip will be $5 per person for gas. Lunch will be on your own at Fazolis. A sign-up sheet is posted. All seats are, presently, reserved. However, someone always has an emergency, so I encourage you, if you are interested in going, please sign on as a stand-by. LaCOMEDIA DINNER THEATRE: A sign-up sheet is now posted for this event. If you are interested in going with us to the LaComedia dinner theatre, on Thursday, October 17, you may sign up now. Your payment of $44.00 per person will be due 60 days prior to the performance. (On or about August 15). The show is The Church Basement Ladies: A Mighty Fortress. We have seen the previous two editions of this show and found them delightful! Remember, the fee includes dinner, the show and travel. (I do have a number of reservations, already. We have 28 tickets on reserve.) SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY: This week, June 16, we continue in our series, Seven Lessons From Judges. Our lesson, this week, is Gideon, Reluctant But Successful and comes from Judges 6-8. Next week, our topic is Abimelech, The Renegade (Judges 9). If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. I remind you parents, once again that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening. WEDNESDAY BIBLE STUDIES: Both of our study groups, 10:00 am and 6:30 pm, will be meeting this week (6/19). We will be completing our study on Colossians. Following this session we will be taking our summer break and will return with a new study in September. FINAL THOUGHT: Experience is the comb we receive after we have lost our hair.

Last week in children's church we learned about Hannah and Samuel. God answered Hannah's prayer by blessing her with a son. She dedicated his life to Him. Throughout this week at VBS we also learned about the amazing ways that God answers our prayers. I am so thankful for everyone that helped with VBS this week. None of it could have been possible without the prayers and support of each and every one of you. God blessed us with almost fifty kids every night, not to mention all the great leaders we had there as well. We had such a blast this week and I really hope to see some new faces at church this summer! Hannah

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Outreach can be intimidating, but it really doesnt have to be. Most of the fear is related to a false understanding of what outreach is. Many people think you have to be a Bible expert to share the gospel with someone. Interestingly enough, some of the most effective evangelism is done by new Christians. These are people who know Jesus saved them and want that for other people as well. They are excited about their new relationship with Jesus and want to share that excitement with everyone they meet. That excitement can be contagious and is very effective because people see the sincerity of the joy and want that too. Many times as we get further along in our spiritual journey, some of that excitement fades and we start feeling like we need to be an expert. Sharing our faith can become an obligation rather than a natural outgrowth of our excitement. This is dangerous. If you dont have joy in your heart, people will not be interested in what you have to offer. You are not going to have success in evangelism and you will become more discouraged and therefore less effective. It is time to pray with David: restore to me the joy of my salvation. There will be more to come on this topic next week, but let me leave you with a couple points to consider. If you are not excited about what God is doing (present tense and continuing action) in your life, you are not giving Him space to move and your relationship needs a time of refreshing and renewal. If you know enough to become a Christian, you know enough to help someone else become a Christian. You dont need to be a Bible scholar. You need to know that your sin separated you from God. Jesus died to save you from your sin. You have given your life to Him in baptism and decided to spend your life learning to be more like Jesus. It is ok to not have answers. It is a learning process. If we are pursuing growth in biblical knowledge as part of our discipleship, those answers will come in time. There is no secret knowledge. it is all in the Bible. People are often put at ease when you let them know; Im not sure, lets look at that together. Or I have questions too, thats why I love the fact that God is big enough to handle my questions.

If the family is going to prevail, it will be because husbands and fathers accept their God-given responsibilities for leadership in the family and lead them in paths of righteousness, integrity, honesty and decency, to love their children and care for those who depend on them. ~ Focus on the Family

Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are: Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Core Values...

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
________________________________________ __________________________________________ ________________________________________ ___________________________________

We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
