CycleT rac Setup and Operational Instructions

IMPORTANT NOTE: CycleTrac must be performed on the floor with carpet,

a rug, or towel under the headrest assembly.

STEP 1) Set the pull force - recommended Weight Bar Clevis
by your health care provider
• Position the hole on the gold clevis in line with
the hole on the weight bar with the desired pull
force.
• Push the detent pin through the gold clevis and
the hole with the desired weight on the weight Detent
bar. Pin

STEP 2) Open door and

insert the black door
strap stop as shown.
Close door after inserting
the black strap.
Note: To increase your
comfort level, adjust the
(H) pull angle by moving the
black door strap up or
down per the chart to the
right.

STEP 3) For safety, slip the loop onto the doorknob prior to traction therapy. Pull on the
cord to tighten the loop on the door knob.

CAUTION: Do not
Loop perform traction
therapy without this
loop tightly attached
to the doorknob.

STEP 4) Unwrap the black

Velcro tie wrap.

STEP 5) Place the blue foot strap by the

headrest as shown.
STEP 6) Adjust the V-Blocks for
maximum comfort by simply lifting the
V-Blocks from the headrest and reattach
them symmetrically to the headrest at
the spacing that feels best to you. A
good starting point for a male would be
even to 1/8 inch from the outer edge of
the headrest track, for females, about
1/4 inch from the outer edge. For
maximum comfort, position the tapered
surface of the V-Block boots as shown. Outer edge of the
Headrest Track

STEP 7) Slip the blue foot strap onto your left or right foot.
CAUTION: A shoe must be worn on the foot accepting the foot
strap. When the foot strap is located properly, the strap position is
located in the arch area of the shoe just above your heel.

STEP 8) With the rope taunt between the door and

headrest, position your body where the top of your
head touches the black foam boots. Get photo showing the rope is taut to the
unit.

STEP 9) Extend your Leg. Need

photo with leg extended and head
out of unit.

STEP 10) Lift head and reach back for the

headrest assembly.

STEP 11) Slide headrest assembly into position

and lower your head into the headrest.
To perform intermittent traction with CycleT rac , follow STEPS 12 and 13
below.

Traction On Rope Slider

Position
STEP 12) Retract your
leg, both knees bent.

Important Note: In the

traction on position the
cord going to the foot
strap must be loose. Use
the rope slider to adjust
the cord for a loose
condition.
Traction On

Traction Off Position

STEP 13) GENTLY
extend your leg until you
feel the pull force on
your head release.

Important Note: Do not

fully extend your leg or
use excessive force,
push GENTLY.
Traction Off
To get out of your CycleT rac Traction Unit, just gently extend your leg to take the
load off of your neck. Once the load is off, lift your head out of the headrest assembly while
sliding the headrest toward the door and out of the way. Remove the foot strap and get up.
Operational Note:
If at any time during your traction therapy you feel an immediate need to remove yourself
from traction, simply lift your head.

Hand on
During your traction therapy keep your head Forehead
tilted back and look straight up at the ceiling.
Your head may start to slip out from the two
V-Blocks. The blocks may need a minor
adjustment. If the problem persists gently lay
your right or left hand (palm up) on your forehead.
The weight of your hand will help to keep your
head from slipping out. After a few minutes you
will begin to feel comfortable and you can
remove your hand from your forehead.
Traction Weight Set up Instructions

Multiple Patient Case Study Traction Weight Set Up:

The starting weight for the patient’s first treatment was 15 pounds. Typically it took 5
minutes before the patient could relax the upper body and feel the effectiveness of the
pull. If after 5 minutes the patient did not feel any pull, then the traction weight was
gradually increased by 2.5 pound increments until an effective starting traction
weight (see chart below) was achieved.

To reach the optimum traction weight, the starting weight was gradually increased by
2.5 pound increments over a two to three week period.

Important Note: If the weight is increased too quickly the patient may experience
discomfort at the occiput region. Increasing the weight at a gradual pace will help
improve the patients’ tolerance for a higher pull force at the occiput region.

The following chart, based on the multiple patient case study, shows the optimum
traction pull weights used by these patients along with their respective body weights
and stature.

Male / Female Body Weight Stature Effective Optimum

Pounds Starting Weight Traction
Weight
Female 90 lbs. Petite 15 lbs. 17.5 lbs.
Female 100 to 140 lbs. Normal 17.5 lbs. 20 to 22.5 lbs.
Male 140 to 160 lbs. Normal 17.5 lbs. 22.5 to 25 lbs.
Male 160 to 190 lbs. Normal 20 lbs. 25 to 27.5 lbs.

The above chart may be a useful reference for the patient and health care
provider. The traction weight for any patient MUST always be determined by the
patient’s healthcare provider.
Indications and Contraindications for use:

INDICATIONS FOR USE:

The CycleTrac CT-5000 Automated Cervical Traction Unit provides a primary treatment
modality for the management of neck and back pain. Intermittent/static cervical
traction results in cervical disk decompression which provides relief of pain associated
with a variety of conditions involving anatomical dysfunctions of the spine, including
protruding or herniated intervertebral discs, degenerative discs and acute facet
problems.

• Cervical herniated discs

• Degenerative joint disease
• Muscle spasms (knots in shoulder girdle)
• Interrupted sleep due to neck, arm or hand pain
• Tension headaches
• Chronic neck pain
• Cervical radiculopathy
• Cervical nerve root compression
• Referred arm pain (pinched nerve in the neck)
• Osteoarthritis
• Cervical spondylosis
• Joint stiffness

Traction should NOT be used to treat the following conditions:

CONTRAINDICATIONS FOR USE:

• Fracture
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Infections and inflammatory diseases
• Malignancy
• Spinal cord compression
• Spinal instability
• Any other conditions that may be made worse by movement
• Any patient without a prescription
*Decompression defined as uploading due to distraction and positioning.
