Summer is in full swing. I hope to see you at Six Corners BBQ Fest this weekend. I'd also like to remind you that my office has a museum pass that entitles the holder to free admission for 4 to almost any museum. 45th Ward residents can check out the pass for a maximum of 3 days. You can check to see if the pass is available by calling my office, but please note that is is first come, first served. We do not take reservations for the pass, and we have only one. It is available to 45th Ward residents only. I hope you can make use of the pass this summer.

BBQ Fest is Here

It's time for some BBQ and great neighborhood fun this weekend during Six Corners BBQ Fest. The fest is Saturday and Sunday. This year's fest will feature several BBQ food vendors, a participatory art experience presented by the National Veteran's Art Museum, roving performances of Shakespeare romantic scenes by Filament Theatre Ensemble, a unique mini-golf course in the Kids' Area, and live performances on two stages. Find the full details at the BBQ Fest website. Of course, you'll also have the chance to test out your arm and dunk me in the dunk tank as we raise money for one of our local public schools. BBQ Fest also will feature the second annual Meat on Milwaukee Cook-Off. Those with great grilling skills can find details at Meat on Milwaukee website. Admission is $5 to the fest. There will be a bike parade to the fest on Saturday. The annual Portage Park Neighborhood Association Bike Parade kicks off at noon from Long and Berteau. From there, the parade will proceed to the north end of the festival. Riders are encouraged to decorate their bikes, and all are welcome. The parade will include free hot dogs, chips and drinks, as well as kids games. And for those in a shopping mood, the 44th annual Old Portage Park Garage Sale is Saturday from 9 am to noon. More than 60 residents are participating. Maps of garages will be available starting at 8 am at Faith Church, 5051 W. Belle Plaine. The church will also host a hot dog lunch and restroom facilities. With so much going on this weekend, I hope you'll make it out to Six Corners and Portage Park.

Jeff Fest is Around the Corner

The Jefferson Park Arts and Music Festival will return to Jefferson Memorial Park this year July 26-28. Headlining bands include Dot Dot Dot on July 26, Magic Box on July 27, and Michael McDermitt on July 28. More details will following in the coming weeks. Jeff Fest is also looking for volunteers to take tickets, staff the information tent and kids' area, and serve as runners. Volunteers get in free and receive a $10 food voucher for each day worked. Now Hiring: Building Trades

The Public Building Commission is hiring skilled building trades workers and non-construction staff for work at Chicago Public Schools. The commission is specifically targeting workers who live in various regions of the city to perform work in those regions. You can learn more about the requirements at the PBC's website.
