Elgi Ultra Industries Ltd (EUIL) belongs to the ELGI Group of Companies, Coimbatore. The group was founded by Sri.L.R.G. Naidu and had its beginnings as early as 1917. The promoters were involved in agriculture, transportation and manufacturing business. The first company in the group was floated in the year 1959 and thereafter the group has made steady progress. The company was formed by the merger of Elgi Polytex Ltd and Elgi Ultra Appliances Pvt. Ltd. Elgi Polytex was promoted in the year 1981 as an import substitute manufacturer of loom components. Starting with this product, the company has introduced a slew of products that form the inventory of products for Ultra today. The grinder division was floated as a private company and was merged with Elgi Polytex to get the advantage of the synergies in operations. Currently, the two operations are designated as Polytex division and Ultra division. Polytex division: This division is a multi-product/ multi-technology division supporting a variety of industries. The manufacturing unit is located at Arasur. The products manufactured by the division include Synthetic sandwich spindle tapes, loom components, flat belts, industrial fabric, cast film, drip irrigations system and pneumatic wipers and horns. The company is the first to have brought synthetic sandwich spindle tapes to India and is a market leader in this segment. The products are sold both to the domestic and export markets. Ultra division: Coimbatore is the major producer of wet grinders for the Indian market. The promoters brought in a sea change in this market by innovating a table-top wet grinder that brought in aesthetics, performance and reduction in size. The wet grinder market has accepted this principle and more and more manufacturers are developing table-top grinders. This division manufactures wet grinders of the capacity of 1.25 liters and 2 liters. These grinders are manufactured both in 220volts for the domestic market and 110 volts for the American market. There are close to 1 million grinders in the market today.

New products are being conceived and presently, the design of a Mixer grinder, a range of Pressure cookers and also a range of gas cook tops have been taken up. While the design process and proto-typing is completed for the mixer grinder, design work only has been completed for the Pressure cooker. The designing of the gas cook top is in process. LOCATION The Company has its Registered and Administrative Offices at Coimbatore and the manufacturing facility at Arasur, on the outskirts of Coimbatore. At Registered Office following departments functions; - Top Management, Marketing - Ultra, Marketing - Polytex, Purchase, Per & Admn, Finance, Accounts and EDP. At Factory Production, Maintenance, Stores, R & D and QA department exists. FACILITIES The factory is located in 5.7 acres of land and has a built up area of about 50,000 sq.ft. The equipments/facilities available include; - Twisting, TFO, Warping machines, prin winders Looms and weaving machine capable of weaving upto 450 gms. - Plastic extruders upto 1.5 tonnes/day capacity, pre-heating ovens and regrinding machine. - Rubber mixing, extruders, vulcanizers, curing, coating and fabric calendering machine. - Belt press, belt joining presses and rubber moulding presses - Assembly and testing facilities for drip irrigation systems and accessories - Tool room and repair facilities - Boilers, compressors, generators and other utilities like computer terminals etc. - Lab facilities for testing rubber, textile and plastic parameters - CAD facilities for design and drafting The Company currently employs around 200 persons.
