Stress Management

In this article, only two points will be discussed

1. What is stress?
2. What is stress management?

Let us discuss how living being came into existence?

Living beings came into existence in the form of amino nucleic acids as an
outcome of chemical process. DNA is Deoxyribonucleic acid. Once these
clusters of chemicals came into being as a life form, an internal force
exerted within these living beings, provoked by the survival instinct, which
forced them to change and adapt according to their environment.
This internal force was STRESS.

Stress is internal physical energy generated to protect us in case there is

threat to our survival instinct. This is not an extra energy. This is converted
from mental, emotional and spiritual energy.
Stress is to be welcomed. Stress is vital force to move our life but to be
applied with WISDOM as explained below. It is very much required even to
solve the problems.

That means that the stress is nothing external but an internal force
generated to protect us from external pressures or situations.
This internal force is generated when we perceive a situation threat to our
life i.e. survival instinct.

There are safety boundaries for our body and our mind, as perceived by
the survival instinct. We can also call them our psychosomatic paradigms.
Whenever these limits or parameters are transgressed, whether by the
body or by the mind, the paradigm is violated and the stress factor
becomes active in a protective manner.

The human body maintains coordination between various systems, and

regulates them as well through the endocrine system. These hormones
influence the operations of all the body’s tissues and organ systems.
Different types of endocrine glands secrete different hormones for different
functions.

The hormone that regulates and controls this function is called adrenaline.
When we need extra energy and extra strength, the body generates
adrenaline to activate the systems that gives this extra strength and
energy.

·Blood supply to other systems is reduced. The other systems (like

digestive and immune systems) become inactive in order to conserve
energy.
·The mind becomes hyperactive and searches for areas of danger.
·Emotions like fear, aggression, nervousness and anxiety grip you.

The rushing of adrenaline was good in primitive times when any danger
required an immediate physical response and lasted for short durations of
time. (How long cans the danger of confronting a lion last? There has to be
a resolution, one-way or the other, within a few minutes!)

Civilization made our life more secure. Physical threats were

supplemented and supplanted with threats of the mind.
Management of this mismatch is the subject of stress management.

We get confused with stress & problem. When we face any problem.
Automatically the body supplies internal physical force to tackle that
problem. That is an automatic system in our body.
But only few problems need physical energy to tackle,
others problems requires different types of force to handle as mental
energy, emotional energy, spiritual energy.
But body always supplies internal physical energy as an inbuilt automatic
natural system at the cost of short supply to other energies. But
In place of internal physical energy we require other type of energy to
tackle that very particular problem. Stress, which causes damage to our
body, is the generation of unwanted internal physical energy.
It results that we neither generate the form of energy, which is required, nor
we utilize internal physical energy.
It means that neither we can tackle the problem due to non-availability of
required form of energy nor we may be able to utilize the internal physical
energy supplied to us as an automatic system.
Now we need two things
1. The generation of internal physical energy is not to be generated
when not required, and also
2. The generation of particular form of energy at proper time as per the
need of the situation
Ability to generate internal physical energy at the required time & the
required form of energy as per the need of the situation is the subject
matter of the STRESS MANAGEMENT.
Hence Stress management is management of NOT ONLY the generation
of internal force BUT ALSO the type of internal force at command of
analytical mind .
INITIALLY by conscious efforts by asking a simple question, “Is this
situation a threat to my physical life?” “ Do I need physical force to handle
the problem?”---AND thereafter AUTOMATICALLY by grooming our
database through reprogramming our mind with the help of
CYBERNETING MEDITATION or Auto suggestion We have a confusion or
we intermix the terms ‘problem and dysfunctional stress’. A problem will
generate stress, it may be dysfunctional to one person & functional to other
person.
