The Age of Endarkenment:

A Black Sun Imperial Analysis of a Memetic Revolution

Abstract:
It is my perception that this planets memetic environment is shifting dramatically toward the dark side. I offer an analysis of the moribund Enlightenment memeplex and the emerging Endarkenment memeplex which is displacing it. I suggest ways that Black Sun memomancers might abet and exploit this revolution for the benefit of the Empire.

The Enlightenment:
The Enlightenment was a period beginning in the 17th century CE during which reason, science, humanism and pragmatism gained ascendancy over faith, magical thinking, tradition and monarchy among the intellectual elite of Europe. This intellectual revolution would lay the foundation for the American and French political revolutions of the late 18th century, and lead to the overthrow of the entire European feudal order by the 19th century. Western military, economic and technological hegemony would spread Enlightenment ideology across the planet during the 20th century, disrupting traditional societies globally and provoking counter-reactions such as the Pearl Harbor and 9/11 attacks. Enlightenment memes are propagated primarily by academics, who use their control of the educational system to mold the minds of future leaders. However, in recent years academia has been infiltrated by a new breed of intellectuals who take a considerably more skeptical, postmodern view of the Enlightenment memeplex. This has opened the door to a whole range of ideas which had previously been deprecated or ignored; academia has therefore become a prime target for Black Sun machinations as we seek to turn this planetary civilizations leaders to the dark side.

The Endarkenment:

The Endarkenment is my term for the ongoing dark side intellectual revolution in the Western world. It has been underway for more than a century, but has yet to become the basis of a new illiberal order in same way that Jefferson and Voltaire made Enlightenment ideas the basis of a new liberal order. This great work is left to the Black Sun Order, because in the words of American president John F. Kennedy, If not us, who; if not now, when? I would date the dawn of the Endarkenment to the work of German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, whose irrational, Romantic-Satanic philosophizing at the height of Enlightenment triumphalism shook European philosophy to its foundations. Nietzsche truly was the prophet of the dark side in the Western world, whose aphorism Man needs what is most evil in him for what is best in him could be the motto of our Order. Following Nietzsche, there was an explosion of anti-Enlightenment ideas across the intellectual spectrum, from the psychological research of Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung which revealed the vast power of the irrational, unconscious mind, to Futurist art, Existentialist philosophy, Cosmicist literature, to discoveries in physics and cosmology which shattered rationalist faith in an objective, comprehensible universe. Adolf Hitlers National Socialism was an early attempt at an Endarkenment-informed political revolution. But for all his dark side genius, Hitlers revolution failed because he inherited too many untenable ideas from Theosophy, Germanic mythology, 19th century science and Christianity (to say nothing of his poor military strategy). Though the victory of the Allies in World War II would seem to mark a new dawn for Enlightenment civilization, in reality the technological traumas of Auschwitz and Hiroshima were more nails in the coffin of the progressive project. For since then, the citizens of this planet have lived with the ever-present fear that their rationally acquired knowledge may destroy them all at any moment. Meanwhile Marxism, which promoted itself as the true heir of Enlightenment values and a more progressive ideology than Western capitalism, had conquered half the planet by mid-century and plunged the world into a Cold War. But by then Marxism had morphed into Stalinism, a murderous ideology of power which only the most idiotic Westerner could not see for what it was. Marxism would collapse spectacularly by the end of the century, because like Western liberalism, it couldnt reconcile the dark side of human nature with its spiritually bankrupt religion of progress. In the 1950s, Russian-American Ayn Rand made the philosophical case for antiChristian, anti-Marxist individualism in several popular books, becoming a cult philosopher whose ideological influence upon the worlds economic elites continues to grow. Rands Objectivism lacks the mysticism upon which all great ideologies are founded, but it could prove to be a useful tool for clearing away the detritus of the Judeo-Christian-Marxist memeplex upon which the Black Sun Empire will be built. Infiltrating the Rand cult would therefore be prudent imperial policy. By the 1960s, the Endarkenment was accelerating, as a generation of Americans raised on Enlightenment propaganda discovered the darker facts of life for themselves en masse. This was the decade of the Kennedy assassinations, MKULTRA, the CIA-funded psychedelic revolution, the Vietnam war, race riots, the Manson murders and the founding of Anton LaVeys Church of Satan. By 1970 it must have been obvious that the sterile, liberal vision of a Great Society was pure fantasy.

In 1975, Michael Aquino would break from the Church of Satan and found the Temple of Set, an influential school of Egypto-Luciferian black magic with a more serious esoteric agenda that its melodramatic progenitor. In 1980, Peter Carroll published Liber Null, the seminal book of the Chaos school of magic. Here Carroll lays out the Aeonic history of human worldviews, from Paganism to Monotheism to Atheism to Late Atheism to the Aeon of the future: Chaoism. A few years later, the evil genius known as Anton Long would found the Order of the Nine Angles and begin a subversive campaign to overthrow the mundane Magian regime and initiate a sinister new Aeon. All of these magical schools would have a vast and continuing influence upon the memomancers of this planet, though their transformative effects are largely invisible to the educated fools of Enlightenment schools who remain oblivious to such metaphysical means of cultural transformation. And these three schools are just a small fraction of the vast magical revival underway in the twilight of the Enlightenment. Black Sun memomancers should encourage this trend by founding or infiltrating a thousand cults and esoteric schools, in order to further sow chaos, fear and dissension throughout the Enlightenment memosphere. In 1976, British biologist Richard Dawkins published The Selfish Gene, which beautifully described the evolutionary and genetic basis for human and animal behavior. Dawkins also introduced the idea of a meme a self-replicating idea which can infect a mind or a culture in a way that is very similar to how genes or viruses behave. Dawkins would later become the leader of the New Atheist movement, an aggressive brand of atheism which proselytizes for the religion of Scientism and seeks to curb the power of all other religions. Dawkins followers tend to be philosophically shallow, unpopular fanatics, but they are also intelligent and well-educated and will need to be reigned in before their campaign to re-ignite the Enlightenment takes hold. For now, they are a useful check on the power of the Monotheists who will undoubtedly be susceptible to Black Sun corruption and manipulation as their power grows. New Atheism is relatively compatible with our ideology, because in a world of selfish genes and memes there can be no blaming the Black Sun Order for trying to take over this planet the birds, the bees, the trees and even the New Atheists do it! In 1994, American Howard Bloom published The Lucifer Principle, introducing a powerful meme into the Endarkenment memeplex. Bloom argues that evil is inextricably woven into the fabric of the world, and is essential to the attainment of higher levels of order, organization and power i.e. what we Black Sun disciples call progress. Blooms account of humanitys violent history as an expression of evolutionary imperatives provides quite a contrast to the absurd Enlightenment narrative of endless progress through peaceful reform and rationality! By the end of the 20th century, this planets leading cosmologists were disturbed to realize that they could no longer account for 95% of the universe. They spoke of dark matter, dark energy, and discovered that the galaxies were receding at an ever faster rate, suggesting that the ultimate fate of the cosmos was infinite darkness. So the universe itself seemed to be sending the same message as its earthbound Endarkenment visionaries to quote a Black Sun poet: The Light that birthed this universe was a fleeting whim; the galaxies are growing dim; the Darkness will forever more ascend. Will these silly Earthlings finally learn the true nature of the dark energy which surrounds us and penetrates us and drives the galaxies apart?

On September 11th, 2001, America was rocked by the devastating suicide attacks masterminded (purportedly) by Islamist leader Osama bin Laden, student of Muslim Brotherhood ideologue Sayyed Qutb. The attacks renewed the ancient war of civilizations between Islam and the West, which still burns in the minds of Muslims but had been all but forgotten by Westerners in the wake of the Enlightenments global triumph. The situation is complicated by the influence of highly skilled Zionist memomancers upon Anglospheric public opinion, who use techniques pioneered by the dark side genius Edward Bernays (and adopted by Nazi propagandist Goebbels) to mold the memosphere to their tribes advantage. While Islam is more compatible with Black Sun ideology than other varieties of monotheism, it remains a rather primitive mythos rooted in a microcosmic Middle Eastern Bronze Age milieu, and cannot be taken seriously except as another faction to manipulate as imperial policy requires. Like Zionism and Catholicism, Islamic ideology is a memetic superpower which must be targeted by Black Sun memomancers for subversion and control. In China, the 2008 Beijing Olympics were a grand spectacle which echoed the 1936 Berlin Games, and announced to the world that the Middle Kingdom was ready to return to this planets center stage. I perceive a powerful non-Western, non-Enlightened form of modernity developing there that will be quite interesting to follow. Chinas vast military, cultural and cosmic ambitions, the growing influence of Nietzschean ideas on its leaders since the demise of Maoism, its ancient traditions of celestial emperors, Taoist sorcery, chi-powered supermen and collective destiny, all suggest that China is ripe for Black Sun ideological assimilation. It is therefore highly advisable that the Empire begin recruiting aggressively from within the Sinosphere; with a well-executed long-term strategy, it is quite conceivable that the next Black Sun Emperor will be Chinese, and that China will become the terrestrial prototype for the Empire going forward.

Conclusions:
The failure of the Enlightenment memeplex on this planet was inevitable, because it was rooted in a false Judeo-Christian conception of human nature and the cosmos. As Nietzsche predicted, the mirror of scientific rationality was turned upon itself and discovered an inescapable infinity of shadowy reflections. Since the revelations of Nietzsche, Jung and Lovecraft, educated moderns should understand what other people never doubted: that all human endeavors have a dark side, just as every illuminated object casts a shadow and all life ends in death. There can still be unlimited progress toward higher levels of power in the Age of Endarkenment, but humanity must dispense with its legacy faiths in goodness, reason, peace and a benign, objective universe. In the Age of Endarkenment, I foresee that this planets culture will become more Gothic, its science more Cosmicist, its philosophy more metaphysical, its politics more stratified and its religion more sinister. And above it all, I foresee a new Imperium taking power: the endarkened Order of black magicians who first understood these truths in all their cosmic glory, and who call themselves the Black Sun Empire!
