Virtual Conference on Sustainable Architectural Design and Urban Planning

University Network for Sustainable Architectural Design and Urban Planning invites experts from academia, professional practices and industry to present their research papers at the Virtual Conference.

Scope The University Network for Sustainable Architectural Design and Urban Planning is a network founded by two European and one Asian university with a goal of enhancing the integration of the sustainability concepts in the Architecture and Urban Planning Education. The Network is announcing the Virtual Conference on Sustainable Architectural Design and Urban Planning which will be held on September 15th, 2007. Virtual Conference will be divided into three themes: Theme 1 - Sustainable Urban Planning and Landscape Design (including themes such as: sustainable settlements, landscape and environment, waste and water management, environmental assessment, etc) Theme 2 - Sustainable Architectural Design (including themes such as bioclimatic architecture, renewable sources of energy in architecture, water and energy saving, etc.) Theme 3 - Sustainable Building Technology (including themes such as: life cycle of buildings, minimumimpact construction and demolition, building materials with minimum environmental impact, environmental management, sustainable maintenance, etc.) Each theme includes three sections: - Section 1: Problems - Section 2: Good practices - Section 3: Education

Schedule Abstracts submission deadline - April 7th, 2007 - The author should send the application form (available on the website) and paper abstract by email. (See Form of presentation of abstracts, bellow) The title of the email should be: ABSTRACT - VIRTUAL CONFERENCE. Notification of the acceptance - April 20th, 2007 - The authors will be notified through email of whether the abstracts have been accepted or not. Full paper submission deadline - June 7th, 2007 - The papers should be submitted through email. (See Form of presentation of full papers, bellow) The title of the email should be: FULL PAPER - VIRTUAL CONFERENCE. Review of the full papers notification - June 20th, 2007 - The authors will receive, through email, the reviewers' evaluation of their papers. Final paper submission - July 10th, 2007 - The final paper should be as corrected version of the full paper (if so required in the review). (See Form of presentation of final papers, bellow) - The papers should be submitted through email. (See Form of presentation of final papers, bellow). The title of the email should be: FINAL PAPER - VIRTUAL CONFERENCE. All the accepted papers will be published on the website. Abstracts and manuscripts should be sent by email to: un.sau@upc.edu

Fees The presentation of the paper at the Virtual Conference is free of charge.

General requirements Research papers should present new knowledge on the conference topics and can be theoretical, empirical, methods-oriented or combination of the three categories. The argumentation should be clear and consistent, sources adequately cited. The research paper should not have been published before. Authors are responsible for obtaining permission from copyright holders for reproducing any illustrations, tables, figures that have been previously published elsewhere.

Form of presentation of abstracts The abstracts should be sent through email in MS Word (doc) or Rich Text Format (rtf). The name of the file should have the following format: "familyname_name.doc" (or .rtf) for example: gonzalez_pedro.doc or nguyen_linh.doc. The abstract should have no more than 250 words. After receiving the abstract all of them will be assigned a 3 digit registration number by the conference organization. This number will be communicated to the authors.

Form of presentation of full papers The research papers should be submitted in MS Word or Rich Text Format (rtf), through email, formatted according to the guidelines that will be included on the Network website soon. The accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. The texts of the research papers should be written in English. The text should not exceed 6000 words (including the references). The first page should contain the title of the article, author's name, institution/organization, abstract (maximum 250 words) and up to 5 key words. The illustrations should be in greyscale, resolution 225 dpi. The file should not exceed 2Mb. The name of the file should have the following format: "XXX-FULL.doc" (or .rtf) where XXX is the assigned registration number, for example: 023_FULL.doc.

Form of presentation of final papers All the requirements for presentation of full papers are to be applied. The name of the file should have the following format: "XXX-FINAL.doc" (or .rtf) where XXX is the assigned registration number, for example: 023_FINAL.doc

Review Process Abstracts and research papers will be reviewed by two experts - one expert belonging to the University Network and one independent expert. The Network uses double blind review - the referees do not know the identity of the authors and vice versa.
