Standards and ESLO's ESLO: Ekarmai International School, School Wide, ESLO A Complex Thinker who Effectively uses a variety of complex reasoning strategies (Higher Order Thinking Skills) Effectively translates issues and situations into manageable tasks that have a clear purpose.
An Effective Communicator who Clearly express ideas in the English Language Demonstrates open-mindedness
CA: Science, CA: Grades 9-12 , Investigation and Experimentation 1. Scientific progress is made by asking meaningful questions and conducting careful investigations. As a basis for understanding this concept and addressing the content in the other four strands, students should develop their own questions and perform investigations. Students will: d. Formulate explanations by using logic and evidence. l. Analyze situations and solve problems that require combining and applying concepts from more than one area of science.
CA: Science, CA: Grades 9-12 , Physics (Conservation of Energy and Momentum)2. The laws of conservation of energy and momentum provide a way to predict and describe the movement of objects. As a basis for understanding this concept: b. Students know how to calculate changes in gravitational potential energy near Earth by using the formula (change in potential energy) = mgh (h is the change in the elevation). c. Students know how to solve problems involving conservation of energy in simple systems, such as falling objects. g. Students know how to solve problems involving elastic and inelastic collisions in one dimension by using the principles of conservation of momentum and energy. h.* Students know how to solve problems involving conservation of energy in simple systems with
various sources of potential energy, such as capacitors and springs. Enduring Understandings Essential Questions
Skills (Objectives) Using a model to relate work and energy Calculating the KE of a moving object Determining how to find the gravitational potential energy of a system Identifying ways in which elastic potential energy is stored in a system Solving problems using the law of conservation of energy Analyzing collisions to find the change in kinetic energy
Content (Topics and Subtopics) Model of work-energy theorem Kinetic Energy vs. Gravitational Potential Energy Elastic Potential Energy Conservation of Mechanical Energy Elastic and Inelastic Collision
Assessment Lab Assignment Students are expected to design their own experiment showing the interplay of mechanical energy within the system as well as create a model that will represent the KE and PE of a system. Perform an experiment that analyzes elastic and inelastic collisions Written Test Chapter Test, quizzes, and problem sets
Stage 3: Learning Plan
Relevant Faith and Learning Questions As it is in the energy of motion, people who use their God given talents become more productive and fruitful. (Matthew 28:19) As it is in stored energy, we are all capable of doing something to advance the cause of GOD. Some of us were given more talents but it is up to us to utilize them to help others. (Ephesians 4:8)
Technology Integration
Resources
Students will create an animation utilizing goanimate.com indicating the concept of elastic Physics: Principles and Problems and inelastic collisions. They are also expected to create their own unique situations where momentum LAB Manual concepts are displayed.
