During the week I aended another workshop

connected with the new Work Health and Safety
regime that is now in eect in New South Wales. The
workshop specically looked at the dues and
responsibiliesthatIhaveasanoceroftheenty
thatisconducnganundertaking.

As the Parish aends to the new WHS regime there

mayneedtobeafewadjustmentsastothewaysome
acvies are carried out or performed. There may
need to be some changes or alteraons to our
physicalplant(whichwewilltrytominimisependinga
nal decision on the future of our church buildings).
These changes are not simply changes for changes
sake; they are part of the Parish fullling our legal
obligaonsand, more importantly, fullling our
moralobligaontoprovidesafeworkplace.

WhiletherequirementsofthenewWHSregimemight
at rst glance seem rather onerous, it became clear
(at least to me) that the most signicant outcome of
the new regime is the emphasis on making sure that
everyone who enters the Parish workplacebe they
employees, volunteers, contractors, visitors, or
parishionersare able to do so in a safe and secure
manner.

Bringing that into reality is not just about going

through the moons, lling out the forms and
checklists,andxingissuesthatwebecomeawareof.
At a more fundamental level its about a change of
atude and culturea culture where safety is
somethingthatweallcareabout,andaculturewhere
weallhavearoletoplay.

Allofushaveanobligaontodoallthatisreasonably
possible to ensure our own safety, to not create a
situaon that impacts on the safety of others, and to

As menoned recently in the Bridgeside Bullen we
will be changing the way the Fracon Rite is
celebrated during our Parish Masses between now and
the end of July. A summary of the changes can be
found below:

Only aer the presider has begun to break the
consecrated bread do the musicians (or, in the
absence of musicians, the assembly) begin to sing or
say The Lamb of God. It is important to not begin
this chant unl the appropriate moment. This is
parcularly important on those occasions (such as at
weekday Masses) when there is no music. We should
not preempt this acon simply because we have
nished giving the Sign of Peace to others around us.
The ming of the beginning of the Fracon Rite
belongstothepresider.

Ministers of Communion are asked to either move

into the sanctuary of the church during the Sign of
Peace or wait unl The Lamb of God has nished
beforedoingso.Inorderthatthischangeinmingnot
unduly delay our celebraon of Mass, it has been
suggested that Ministers of Communion might like to

Last week I shared with you our experiences of

lament, and it seems that our readings this week
engage us inmately in the lament of David who has
behaved badly, by desiring what he cannot have and

and David on his part recognises divine mercy. In the
secondreadingfromSt.PaultotheGalaans(2:16,19

righteous is not obedience to the law, but faith in
Jesus Christ. And then in the Gospel of Luke (7:36

So that we might receive Communion in a t and
properway,pleasebeawareofthefollowing:

When we process forward to receive Communion,

we have been asked by the Australian Bishops to
adopt a common and unied gesture of reverence
before doing so. In Australia that gesture is a bow
of the head and shoulders (GIRM, 160). Any other
formofreverence,includingagenuecon,should
thereforebeavoided.
Communion by selfinncon (selfdipping) is
neverpermied,sincewereceiveCommunionand
never take Communion. Please refrain from this
inappropriateacon.
We regret that we do not have the physical
facilies to oer communion while kneeling, and
respecully ask you to refrain from kneeling to
receive Communion while part of the procession,
since this is contrary to the nature of the
Communion procession itself. Your cooperaon in
honouring this request is very much appreciated,
andwethankyouforyourconsideraon.
