INTRODUCTION A researcher lives in a world of change.

Either he creates this change himself by probing for ways to improve or change is forced upon him by outside pressures. However, his concern is always for results. The changes a researcher initiates, as well as those thrust upon him, can affect his planned objectives for good or for bad. The challenge, therefore, to a researcher is to act so that the positive effects of any change outweigh its negative consequences. He must maximize his creativity by exploring the holistic side of his perspective and look for an environment where he can freely express his uncensored thoughts without fear of criticism or ridicule. He must take cognizance of the fact that the whole society needs him in priming the process of development. His outputs create opportunities for increasing productivity, income, employment, and improve the general well-being of the people. However, for his research to make social and economic impact on his fellowmen, he must put in black and white his output and take it to the world of action, to the market place, to the producer, and to the end-user. But, writing a research report is an unpredictable process. It is very likely to involve uncertainty, ambiguity, and unexpected events. It is very common to make false starts, to have to back up from blind alleys of research, and to make necessary compromises in conducting the research. The process is necessarily uncertain because the researcher is exploring unknown areas. Patience and perseverance are paramount in all the efforts. As the key player in writing research report, the researcher himself must shoulder the responsibility for its successful completion. To succeed in this type of a dynamic environment, he needs to use specific skills, which include learning how to learn, networking, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making, researching, and professional writing. It is in recognition and acceptance of this challenge and to provide the writers of research, feasibility study, and capstone project reports with the desired format, style, and other technical writing specifications that this handbook was prepared. In its preparation, the author is indebted to his colleagues and friends. From their variety of perspectives and backgrounds, the author hopes that this instructional material will, in no small way, serve as a worthy reference for college instructors and students. Lastly, notices of errors, comments, and suggestions will be highly appreciated so that proper corrections could be made.
