org Turning the Page for the Next GenerationOne Book at a Time American Mothers, Inc. Teams with the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America to Promote Youth Literacy in Nevada LAS VEGAS, NV March 27, 2012 -- Hundreds of local high school students will donate more than 3,000 books to promote early childhood reading for Las Vegas area preschools. Members of Future Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) from eight Clark County high schools partnered with the Nevada Association of American Mothers Inc. (AMI) under a multigenerational campaign known as Project Next Generation. The joint project seeks to promote community service in the areas of home and family wherever it is needed in Clark County. The first annual installment of books will be donated on Wednesday, March 28, at 3:30 p.m. at the preschool administered by Canyon Springs High School, 350 E. Alexander Road, North Las Vegas, Nevada 89032 799-1870. In its pilot year, Project Next Generation exceeded its goal of collecting 1,500 books by more than double. The project includes the book drive known as Books for Beginners and a quilt donation project known as ABC Quilts. The quilts were stitched by high school students and members of AMI for disadvantaged youth to have something warm and comforting to take home from the hospital. They will be donated to UMC Childrens Hospital (800 Rose Street Las Vegas, Nevada 89102) at 4:30 p.m. Together, both aspects of Project Next Generation focus on improving the future for children and families by connecting communities across the generations. The idea of a joint project between the organizations was a natural. AMI and FCCLA embrace similar goals as organizations, and we believed collaboration on Project Next Generation would achieve the greatest results for the community, Cristi Bulloch, national vice-president of AMI, said. This project is about identifying needs of the rising generation and creating enthusiasm among teenagers and adults to work together to give back in an innovative way to provide the essentials of early childhood: comfort and learning. FCCLA students provided fresh ideas and an expanded community reach for the existing AMI project, Books for Beginners. Local FCCLA members were trained by a university public relations team from Brigham Young University to develop techniques for collecting books in their individual high schools. Ultimately, the local teenagers have wowed everyone with their interest in serving and giving during the campaign and the overwhelming number of books collected. We have never done a project with such a high response from the community, Jessica Cramer, a senior at East Tech High School and the state public relations officer of FCCLAs Nevada

Association, said. The support weve received from our high school peers and community members has been an awesome experience. Project Next Generation is about investing in the future, a future that needs our time, dedication and support, Rose Woodbury, Nevada Mother of the Year, said. Our partnership with FCCLA gave us an opportunity to serve and work together with the students, who then motivated their peers. The results have exceeded our expectations; we have accomplished a remarkable achievement. About American Mothers, Inc.
