Small description of the match (extra-ordinary incidents etc.): Approximately 45000 spectators crammed into the Arena Fonte Nova in the city of Salvador to watch the final group game for both Italy and the host nation Brazil. Even though both nations had already qualified for the semi-finals, there was a lot riding on this match as both nations would preferably want to avoid facing the reigning world and European champions Spain in the next round.The first half didn't really live up to the billing as both nations contributed to a very cagey opening forty-five minutes. However, right on the stroke of halftime Dante, who is from Salvador gave Brazil the lead in what seemed to be an offside position. Six minutes after the interval, Italy equalised through substitute Giaccherini. The Brazilians hit back almost immediately with their talisman Neymar in the 57th minute and put the game beyond doubt in the 66th minute through Fred. However, Chiellini had other ideas as he got one back for the Italians in the 71st minute. Fred sealed the win with his second.

However, he inexplicably changes his mind and signals for an Italian goal as Chiellini puts the ball in the back of the net. How can such a highly rated and vastly experienced match official make such a school-boy technical error? 71 As you are watching the match you can clearly hear the distinct sound of the whistle before Chiellini scores. This horrendous error is certain to send Irmatov and his team home from the Confederations Cup.

Basic Observations (refer to the general application of the LotG, highlight the referees tactical approach, personality, match control, management of the teams and players, teamwork etc.). Please deploy short but precise and detailed sentences! Positive Points Ravshan Irmatov showed excellent fitness. He was always close to play and kept 1. pace with counter-attacks. Card selection. Every caution administered by the Uzbek official was totally 2. justifiable and correct. Points for Improvement It seemed Irmatov was constantly being deceived by Neymar's theatrical falls. None more so than in the 57th minute where Irmatov awarded a very soft free1. kick to Brazil in which they eventually scored. Further replays clearly indicated that Neymar was seeking contact from the Italian defender. Irmatov could delay his decision making so that he can see how things pan-out. If 2. he used this technique in the 57th minute, he would have avoided making that error. Irmatov could of booked the Brazilian goalkeeper for persistently complaining 3. about his decision to allow Italy's goal to stand.

Further observations (peculiarities of the referee revealing his character) Irmatov communicated well with players and there were instances where he was smiling when explaining decisions which is good to see.

Please assess the first assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour Abdukhamidullo Rasulov was the most steady performer out of the three officials. He had one major situation to address in this game and it came right at the end of 8' the game on the 88th minute. As BRA #6 shoots, BRA #9 is in my opinion level 50' with outstretched leg of ITA #5. This is such a difficult decision so I will give the 88' benefit of the doubt to Rasulov. He also made two correct offside decision in the 8th and 50th minutes respectively. Overall a very good performance from Rasulov

Please assess the second assistant referees performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the ARs behaviour Bakhadyr Kochkarov had an overall satisfying game. Howerver, the only point of criticism I can direct towards him was the missing of an offside call leading up to Brazil's opening goal in the 44th minute. 23 When the ball is first delivered, the goalscorer (BRA #13) is onside. However, as 37 the ball comes in another Brazilian player flicks it on towards BRA #13. At this 44 point he is in an offside position meaning Kochkarov should've raised his flag. 51 Kochkarov also made very good offside decisions in the 37th and 23rd minutes respectively. He also made a very good call to not raise his flag in the 51st minute as ITA #22 was clearly onside and they went on to score.

Fourth Official
Please assess the fourth officials performance. Minute and Description of the Scene / Assessment of the fourth officials behaviour Unlike in previous games in this year's edition of the Confederations Cup, Nishimura did not go wondering outside the technical area to assist the referee. full time He was not involved in any remarkable situations and executed added time and substitutions accordingly.
