CENTER FOR GLOBAL LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN

THE CENTER FOR GLOBAL LOGISTICS AND SUPPLY CHAIN is a research center of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California. The Center is an important focus of the Department of Information and Operations Management. Long recognized as a creative leader in logistics and supply chain management thinking, the department has a dozen faculty actively engaged in the various programs and activities of the Center. OUR GOAL is to bring together industry leaders, academic experts, specialized consulting firms, and affiliated students to leverage the potential and interest of each of them through the activities and resources of the Center. We provide a forum for studying the role of global logistics in the future of world commerce, promote interactive and collaborative research relevant to the industry, and explore best practices in global supply chain management, global sourcing and outsourcing, information technology in logistics planning and control, and design tools for world-wide distribution analysis and logistics modeling.

OUR LOCATION in Los Angeles provides a rich environment, and a unique laboratory for exploring the most advanced thinking in manufacturing, distribution, supply chains, and global sourcing of goods and services. We are in the heart of the largest manufacturing concentration in America. We are the gateway to the Pacific Rim, with the largest harbor and seaport infrastructure in the nation, one of the very few facilities in the world able to handle the latest generation of super-container ships, and serviced by the largest sea-railland transportation hub in the country. We host the largest concentration of transshipment warehouses anywhere in the world, and are the gateway to our NAFTA partners and the maquiladores of Mexico. OUR PROGRAMS are designed to appeal to a broad range of industry and academic participants, with many of our events jointly sponsored by participating trade organizations, professional societies, and specialized industry consultants. We are planning a series of executive briefings and seminars on issues of importance to strategic thinkers and operations managers. Our Research Roundtables will explore the most forward thinking concepts in logistics and supply chain management, while promoting the kind of dialogue between academia and industry that is critical to keeping the research relevant and practical. Our Technical Symposia highlight important operational innovations and specific developments for the operating manager, and our topical conferences focus on emerging trends and strategic issues germane to our sponsors and industrial partners. OUR INDUSTRY-BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS ensure the continued relevance of our applied research. We can provide sponsored studies of proprietary interest to one or more of our partners. We actively solicit joint research proposals of common interest. We encourage empirical and field research studies that are of direct practical import, and we promote best practices research and the creation of case studies that can be used for both industrial and classroom use. These research studies also provide important opportunities for student/industry involvement that will include both undergraduate and Masters student internships, student/faculty/industry joint study projects, as well as faculty-supervised student projects for classroom credit.
