“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things, at all times, having all
that you need, you will abound in every good work.” 2 Corinthians 9:8

We thought we were at the end of our stay in Melbourne last December when we looked at our support account
and realized that it was really low. Worse of all were lies that the devil had placed in our minds. ‘Are you
wasting God’s resources and money by spending so much here in Melbourne?’ ‘You are better off in the
working world!’ etc…. We had always looked forward to December because of the ‘fat’ bonus that Alex would
receive from the Airforce. Last December was really different and difficult. No ‘fat’ bonus plus we decided to
take 80% of our salary. The temptation to quit and go back into the working world with well paying job
continued to lure us. In the working world, we rejoice when we hear of a raise. For us as missionary, a raise in
salary means we have to raise more support.

2 Corinthians 9:8 was God’s promise to us. He promised us His Grace abounds. We committed to the Lord to
continue to serve Him in faith. Yes, He is our Jehovah Jireh! Our hearts are greatly encouraged by many of you
who had given sacrificially to God’s work through our ministry.

We saw many of you giving to our ministry even though you knew you were not in the best position to give.
Some gave in faith without knowing how God was going to provide for your companies in these times of
financial crisis. Those who retired still gave generously even though you do not have any more salary coming
in. Many who are struggling to make ends meet still blessed us with much. Even the children in church gave
sacrificially of their pocket money to raise funds for us as a blessing. Many of you encouraged us by your hours
of prayer for us.

We were encouraged by others who wrote to share lessons they have learnt from our newsletters of lessons
that God had taught us. Many of you shared that the Unspeakable Joy of seeing all these students come to faith
in Jesus brought tears of joy to your eyes. One sister wrote the following:

Firstly, let me say that your newsletters are a great testimony and encouragement of what the Lord is doing in
your lives and through your lives. I have been greatly encouraged by your sharing - one that has made a deep
impression on me (and which I have shared with a friend and it has blessed her greatly too) is the one where
you shared about "being overtaken by His goodness" and how the Psalmist writes that His goodness will follow
us "all the days of our lives" (not some of the days or most of the days)! I really LOVE that!! Thank you for
sharing that precious lesson.

You know, when I first read your sharing, I was struck by the phrase "overtaken by His goodness". I liked it
and I found it meaningful, but I did not fully appreciate what that meant at first. That phrase just stayed on my
mind for several days and I kept thinking about what it means to be overtaken by God's goodness. Then one
day, while hanging out the laundry (that's when I chat with the Lord about a lot of things) and praising God for
some little mercy He'd shown me, it suddenly struck me what being overtaken by His goodness means! To
overtake someone is to be ahead of that person, right? So when His goodness overtakes us, it means that His
goodness is ahead of us. That means when I get to a particular point in time, His goodness is there already
and WAITING FOR ME! No wonder, when I arrive at sticky situations, the Lord has His little mercies ready for
me! His goodness is already there and waiting for me. I was SO EXCITED when I understood what it means to
be "overtaken by His goodness". It has been months now, but I am still thrilled and rejoicing over this precious
lesson. So thank you once again for blessing me with your sharing.
Praise the Lord! That’s exactly what we have been experiencing here! His goodness never fails to overtake us!
His Grace is sufficient for us!

With so much of God’s grace being poured out unto us, at all times, having all that we need, we began to
abound and bear much fruits. We choose to put on the armour of God daily to fight this spiritual battle. We
recognised that all these fruits are results of your eternal investment in our lives. Indeed there is no greater
fulfilment than the joy of seeing souls saved again and again.

As we approach the end of our 2-year Stint with Campus Crusade for Christ, we are trusting God to show us His
plan. Please pray for us to hear God’s voice and to know His will for our lives. Pray for the pastors and leaders
of Calvary Baptist Church, leaders of Campus Crusade both in Singapore and Australia and us to be given the
same picture from God. Pray that God will give us faith to trust Him for all that we need.

The adventure of the Green Apples continues….

Remember praying for Carolyn in our March newsletter? She had been
faithful in meeting Connie for CE. She believes in all that Christ had
done for her on the cross but also believed that Buddha had blessed her
and answered many of her prayers and wishes in leading her to
Monash. Connie challenged her to consider who are the true God and
Creator. Could God be the one who had led her to Monash so that she
could know Him? After service on Sunday, Carolyn approached Connie
and told her that she wants to surrender her life to Christ. She asked if
she can make an appointment with Connie to pray the prayer. Connie
was overjoyed! Since Erika had been faithful in bringing her to church
and Life Group meeting, she had the privilege of leading Carolyn in the
sinner’s prayer on the 29 March 2009 right on the grounds of Crossway
Baptist Church. Hallelujah! Green Apple #21. Please pray for wisdom
CiCi (GA#1) Carolyn
for Carolyn to complete her college studies and continues her studies at
Monash Clayton.

Another disciple Teck Hong had been meeting Ruby for CE. Ruby had been faithful in coming to learn more
about Jesus and has a deep desire to know God personally. Ruby prayed and received Christ after CE on the
30 March 2009. Green Apple #22

Spiritual battles continue in our lives. Making appointments and trying to fit everyone in our schedule is a
battle in itself. Connie was feeling defeated physically on Thursday morning. Blocked nose, sore throat, watery
eyes & aching body tempted her to cancel all her appointments from 12pm to 6pm. After drinking a Chinese
remedy, she surrendered the day to God in obedience. During shower, Connie asked the Lord to wash her
clean on the inside too. God cured the aches and blocked nose. After morning meetings, she proceeded to
meet all the girls sitting in the sun on the lawn. By God’s grace, He renewed her strength and removed the
headache! God is our Healer! Hallelujah! The following are the blessings for the day!

3 – In -1 again!

If you’ve prayed for Clare in our March newsletter, she is an answered prayer. Clare, a student at Deakin Uni
texts Connie to make an appointment. Connie suggested meeting her another day as she had filled up her
appointments for Thursday. Clare text a few times and then proceeded to call and told Connie that she wants to
meet her after her project meeting. Connie saw her urgency and told her to just come when she is able. When
she arrived, she shared excitedly about her experience attending church a few weeks ago. Connie was
surprised by this change in her as Connie had tried for the past month trying to contact her with no reply. After
seeing the uniqueness of Christ in CE#1 and Connie struggling to explain in Chinese, Clare was all ready to
accept Christ as her Saviour and Lord on 2 April 2009. Praise the Lord! Green Apple #23

Rose, a Caulfield disciple, had been battling with time to meet her contacts with hours put into project
meetings and assignments. Emma (Green Apple #16) brought her friends Dee and Rebecca (see below) to
meet with Rose and they indicated interest to join CE. Dee missed the appointment for CE that week. Rose was
struggling to make time to meet Dee. On Thursday, Rose was really tired and decided to buy a drink after
dropping her things in the library. She saw Dee and Emma at the café. Their lecturer did not turn up for
lecture. Rose took the opportunity to share the gospel through the Four Spiritual Laws booklet. Rose could not
believe her ears when Dee said yes. Dee prayed on the 2 April 2009. Rose recognised that it was God’s
appointed time and the work of the Holy Spirit again. An excited Rose text that God did a miracle! Green
Apple #24

Another answered prayer is Sara. She did not receive Christ in March when Connie shared the gospel with
her. She had been really busy and could not find time to meet with Connie. Sara finally decided to meet Connie
on Thursday. Olivia, another disciple who knows Sara came to join us. Sara comes from a Christian family but
struggles to surrender her life to Christ. It was heartwarming to hear her read the Scriptures in Cantonese.
When she saw Christ as her trustworthy object of her faith, she willingly opened her hearts door and invited
Christ into her life on 2 April 2009. Olivia had the privilege of leading Sara in the prayer. What a Joy! Green

Easter Special Meeting on 3 April @ 4.15pm

U U

At 4pm, there was a great thunderstorm. Prayers went up to the Lord for His Sovereignty over the weather and
students. God brought 34 students to the meeting inspite of the rain. Joyson came with his house mate Patty,
Mary’s CE contact. He came to find out the true meaning of Easter. Through the skit, incites to Easter eggs and
Gospel presentation, Joyson saw God’s grace demonstrated. Joyson prayed the prayer and invited Christ into
his life on 3 April 2009. Green Apple #26

God’s Grace Abounds for the third time for Rose!

Rebecca rang Rose on Saturday night and told Rose that she wants to receive
Christ. She wants Rose to lead her in the prayer. She wants to be a child of
God. She had believed in the claims of Christ after CE#1 but hesitated to
take that step of faith earlier in the week. Rose decided to bring Emma, Dee
and Rebecca to Church on Sunday. After service, Rebecca excitedly prayed
the prayer and invited Christ into her life on 5 April 2009. Our God reigns!

Rebecca, Connie, Candy

Another Thursday, Another day of Harvesting!

Mary’s contact Amanda came for CE appointment. After learning of who Christ is and what He has done for her,
she readily surrendered her life to Christ in prayer on 9 April 2009. Green Apple #28

Candy has a searching heart for the true God. She is also another answered prayer. She came for our Aussie
BBQ at Caulfield. After a whole month of contacting her, she finally was ready to meet for CE. After CE#1, she
still had a lot of questions. Connie encouraged her to read the Book of Mark to discover the claims of Christ.
Candy went to a meditation class but recognised that she cannot reach the level of emptying her mind that the
instructor was teaching her to do. She met Connie for CE#2. After hearing what Christ had done on the cross
for her and the promise that Jesus gave in John 1:12, she surprised Connie. She said she wanted to be a child of
God and desires to call God, Abba Father. She prayed the prayer of faith on 9 April 2009. God is good! Green
Apple #29. Continue to pray for Candy that all her questions will be answered. After watching the Jesus movie,
she came out with more questions. Reminds me of Thomas in the bible.

Jesus Movie @ Caulfield

U
Thanks to many of you who saw Connie’s appeal on Facebook to pray for us, God worked a miracle. We were
brought to our knees when we heard on Tuesday, 2 days before the Movie on Thursday, that the room we had
booked was superseded by a request from a lecturer. With all our publicity out and confirmation of room not
made, we prayed and claim God’s promise that He will cause all things to work together for good, because we
love Him and are called according to His purpose. We waited in anticipation to see God’s Grace abounding
once again!

We had a record breaking of 30 people who came, a first ever in Caulfield this Semester. Many were
encouraged through the movie. Vicky came after seeing the poster. She was rushing off after movie. Connie
asked if she prayed the prayer. She hesitantly said not yet with tears welling up in her eyes. Please pray for
Connie to connect with her after term break. Pray for Alex to connect with Johnson too. Pray for Vicky, Vivian,
Kathleen, Olivia Wu, Anqi, Joyce and Liang Lu who indicated interest in meeting for CE that they will be
willing to meet with Alex and Connie. Pray for the rest who did not indicate interest to continue to see Christ in
the lives of someone who truly follows Jesus.

Praise and thank God for Arina Sherchan from Nepal, Keren Huang (Ivy’s CE contact) from China and
Nguyen Nhung from Vietnam who prayed the prayer of faith and became children of God on 9 April 2009.
Pray for Connie and Ivy to continue to follow them up. Pray that they will grow in their faith in God. Green

SO FAT Girls

Like CONNIE! SO FAT! (Spiritual, Obedient, Faithful, Available Teachable)

Oops! Not physically but Spiritually FAT. Thank God all these girls are beautifully slim and healthy.

A final year student and president of the Student Life Club in Caulfield. We
are really encouraged as we saw her grow in her faith and direction for the
Praise God for Ivy ministry in Caulfield. With her availability to partner us to serve God during
International Enrolment and O week and Club Day, she caught the vision for
a movement. We were really encouraged when she said that of all the years
she had been involved with Student Life, she felt like a mini-missionary this
year when she committed her time, talent and energy to labour with us
almost everyday!

She is really excited when she shares her vision for lunchtime fellowship
and Bible Study. These meetings gave her opportunities to meet other
disciples in the ministry whom she only knows by name. She sees the need
for bonding and identity as a ministry.

Heading this ministry is really new to us. Ivy has been a blessing. Her faithfulness and teachability encourages
us. Ivy has been challenged to lead a group of new believers. Discipleship is new to her and she excitedly
trusts God to invest her life in these girls. Pray for Ivy as she disciple these girls Cici, Lillian, Alva & Alicia. Also
her CE contact Keren who prayed during the movie. Pray for her to make her last Semester count for Jesus. As
she seeks God’s will, pray that she will hear God’s call to working world or fulltime ministry.
A final year student in Clayton. Shiho is gifted and has been serving in
Student Life with a passion for community. We saw how God had caused
Praise God for Shiho growth in her walk and love for God. We saw her apply many skills she had
learned through the year of working in community with Connie. She
enthusiastically planned and ran the Hot Pot Party with little supervision
from Connie. Independently dependant on God, from PEPSI plans to
checkouts of games, worship, testimonies, etc. We were really encouraged
as we saw 75 people at the meeting. All these happened because of all your
partnership in prayer for our ministry. Shiho had expressed a desire to be a
multiplying disciple last year. Connie is training her to lead a Core Group
of Christian disciples. Pray for these girls under her care: Wei Ning, Jessica,
Marie, Janine, Chyi Wei, Laurie, Jane & Anita to be faithful in coming for
bible study and catch a vision for the lost in Clayton.

Discipleship is also new to her. Pray for her to find common time to meet Tina and Clare (new PRCs) and help
them grow in their walk with God. Seeing her availability and teachability, Connie is motivated to invest IT
(Individual Time) with her. Pray for her to manage her time well as she juggles excelling well in her studies,
weekly meetings, church involvement and discipleship. Shiho has a desire to serve God fulltime. Pray for her
to hear God’s voice and act in obedience in God’s time. Pray for her as she seeks God for her future. To go
back to Japan, stay in Australia or other parts of the world.

A final year student in Clayton. Erika is fun loving and a joy to Connie. It has
been encouraging to see her grow in her faith and desire to serve God with
Praise God for Erika Student Life. Erika has a heart for baby Christians. She is Connie’s answer to
her prayers for someone to take care of all these new babies in God’s
family. Discipleship is also new to her. Pray for her as she helps these girls
to grow in their walk with God. Seeing how she was faithful in little things
entrusted to her and available for everything, Connie seeks to spend IT
time with Erika. Pray for her girls, Cheryl, Carolyn, Judie and Sonia. Pray
that she will be able to find a common time for all of them and follow them
up in their walk and prayer life too. All these girls are like new sponges,
they are so teachable and ready to learn. Erika really has a heart for
people. She goes out of her way to help many of these girls to bring them to
meetings and church and home. She demonstrates a compassionate heart.

A compassionate heart is a mark of godliness. Compassion spurs you to put your love into action and
motivates you to meet the needs of others. You can pass along the compassionate heart of Jesus by your
willingness to care for others. What one act of compassion could you offer today?

Erika has responded to serve God fulltime last year. Please pray for her to know God’s will and timing for her
life. Pray for good time management for her as she runs Church Life group, Church involvement, ferries
everyone to church & meetings, helps in weekly SL meetings, multiply her life into these disciples, works to
pay rent and manages her home and sisters.

She initially told Connie she has no time to help to do CE. She has a heart to
serve God but felt she needed time to concentrate on her studies. Connie
Praise God for Grace introduced Charlene to her during Hot Pot Party and later at Clayton
Church. Grace was concerned when Charlene was not at church one
Sunday. She was overjoyed when Connie told her Charlene had come to
faith in Christ. Connie has been praying for Grace to catch the vision for
discipleship so that she can bring all these experience to bless the local
church as well as her home church. Seeing how Grace connected and cares
for Charlene, Connie re-challenged her to take Charlene as her disciple.
Grace is willing to take baby steps of faith with this baby and help her grow
in her faith. Pray for God to give her courage and confidence as she steps
up to be a multiplying disciple. Pray for good time management in her
studies, church involvement and Student Life
Rose was involved with Clayton ministry for the past 3 years. She graduated
last year but decided to continue to do her Masters studies at Caulfield for
Praise God for Rose the next 2 years. God has been blessing Rose with many contacts to do CE.
Emma who became a Christian last week brought 2 friends, Dee & Rebecca
to meet with her for CE. These 2 girls have a desire to know more about
Jesus. She has another contact Fiona Zhao who has indicated interest to do
CE too. Just within the week, Dee and Rebbeca came to faith in Jesus! Oh
what a JOY!

Pray for Rose as she prays for God’s direction for her in Student Life. Alex
and Connie felt led by the Spirit to challenge Rose to pray about being
President at Caulfield when Ivy graduates this June. Pray for her to listen to
God’s voice and confirmation from God. Pray for her time management too.
Thank God for her understanding project mates who are Student Life
disciples too. They had been gracious to wait for Rose and allow Rose to
attend meetings and Bible Studies first. What a blessing!

Prayer for Connie

U

Connie recognises that we are involved in spiritual battle every moment. The purpose of the evil is to defy God
and to wear down believers until they are led into sin. This gives Satan pleasure and greater power. Therefore
we must be alert at all times for both sneak attacks and frontal attacks of the evil one. He will distort God’s
Word, hoping to make us doubt and question God’s will and intentions for us. We know that eventually, God
will destroy this power of evil for all time. Until that day, we overcome evil by choosing to obey God.

Please pray that Connie will put on the full armour of God daily. Faith puts us right in the middle of a spiritual
battle for our very soul. We must recognise that and arm ourselves or we will be defeated. “His Grace is
sufficient for Me!” Pray that we will be overcomers!

Pray that Connie will continue to be obedient to the Spirit’s leading. Claiming God’s promise in Ps 32:8, “The
Lord says, ‘I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will show you and watch over you.”

It has been a discouraging yet encouraging week. Discouraging because one by one the girls came back to
say that they have decided not to join Student Life. Many cancelled CE appointments due to assignment
datelines, etc...Encouraging because Connie had a great week of bible studies with all the many more FATSO
girls. Also those few who faithfully meets her for CE. Pray that as she water, plant and care for these seedlings,
God will continue to cause the growth!

Will update more on our discipleship groups in our next issue and family matters.

Overcomers…..
