So, it requires knitting only few stitches at the beginning. Do not forget to slip the first stitch of each row (odd and even) purl-wise, with the yarn in front and to knit the last stitch of each row (odd and even). It will be easier to pick up the stitch on the left (base of the border) and the shawl will be more elastic when you block it. Only odd rows are charted. Purl even rows.
