Thambhrabarani in the Thirunelveli District of Tamilnadu.Lord Kubera, having lost all his possessions to his brother Ravana, did penance in this sanctified place to get his position of head of North direction and also the Treasurer of Gods. Such a beautiful, potent temple- a heaven on earath, was built by Pandian King Nedumaran, alias known as Koon Pandian and Arikeserai, who was turned Shivaite by the Thiru Gnanasambhader at the instance of the kings wife Mangyarkarasi. Subsequently the temple was renovated and rebuilt by First Sadayawarman Kulasekara Pandian during 12-13th century. The Temple was last consecrated on the 4th February 1900 ( Sunday, 23rd Thai, Vihari Tamil year ) as per the documentary evidence from the Kalvettukal in the temple and further that no Kumbhabishekam or Samprokhsanam is done. For more than 110 years, nothing notable had been done to the temple. The temple is in ruins and requires urgent and immediate repairs, renovation and restoration. The temple is under the control and possession of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment Board, Government of Tamilnadu. Society and its volunteers, are associating with the Hindu Religious Endowment Board, The Board is in the process of according sanction permission. The permission shall be in the form of develop and handover to the Board after completing the Seva to Lord. The Society SRI PERIYANAYAGI UDANAYA SRI ARIYA NATHA SWAMY VAZHIPATTU KUZHU had been registered under the above name, under section 10 of the Tamil Nadu Societies Registration Act 1975, with the Registrar of Societies, Cheranmadevi on 18 th May 2012, bearing serial no 22/2012. The Society has sought the services of Sri Dr Era Santhanam, an expert on reconstruction of temples and Stapathi registered with HRCEB, for carrying out the thirupani to the temple . He had worked out the civil works cost- estimate detailed as follows:
