Indonesia is islands country. So where are all the fishes?

When I look at the world map, my gaze always drifts to Indonesia. You may say that is due to myself being an Indonesian, but can you say the same when I was 10 years old with barely knowledge about what is meant being a citizen of a country? Since I was very young, the uniqueness of existence of Indonesia on the world map had intrigued me. How uniquely shaped five islands are situated in the middle of the equator seemed to pop in any map I see. Well, I never took any deep meaning behind the difference of the shape when I was young, only assume its one-of-a-kind. But as I grew older, I realized how much people are missing the benefit brought by that difference Indonesia posses than other countries. Indonesia is consists of five main islands. Five, really huge islands. And not to mention thousands of smaller islands, which I believe mostly inhibited. Now, lets compare with other island-based country, Japan. Japan had ultimately put their nature to their advantage. Being an island mean the country is surrounded by seas. Seas rich with marines life. Fishes, seaweed, coral and fishes. Look at their iconic food: Sushi. Sushi is obviously proof on how Japan had made used of their fish rich country to their advantage. From octopus to dolphins, even the spiky roudhund they consume it. Sushi is so unique, it become known worldwide. Some people questioned the reason why they serve the fish raw, but seeing the country is an island, probably they dont have time to cook all of the abundant fishes? How about Indonesia? Isnt it an Island country too? More than Japan who only have 1 main island, Indonesia has 5. Arent it suppose to have more fish based dishes? The truth is, although the said assumption is logical, that is not the case. The local citizen consume sheep, chicken, cow, and lamb more than fish. Why? I dont know. I have some hunches, but I didnt research enough to back them up. One guess is geographic reason. Maybe tropical ocean possesses less variety of marine lives? Another guess is Indonesia had been invaded by multiple countries with constituent years so it hinder from the citizens to explore the usage of the countrys natural resources? Or does Indonesian look at fishing industry as not something benefitting? Or could it be it all down to our personal fond of land meat? Whatever the reason, the fishes in the ocean is right there infront of our eyes, just waiting to be reeled up. And I find it a huge loss if we are to let those fishes just rot to become sediment of the sand under the sea.
