The ET523 can support up to four independent SIP accounts. Each of the four line keys (LINE1 LINE4) is mapped to one SIP account. In off-hook state, when you press the corresponding Line key or continuously press the same line key, the phone will switch among the four accounts. If the name of an account is configured, then it is displayed on the LCD and a dial tone is heard. For example: configure Account Name of the four SIP accounts as AAA, BBB, CCC and DDD. Ensure each account is activated and registered on the VoIP server or IP-PBX. When LINE1 is pressed, you will hear a dial tone and see AAA on the LCD display; when LINE2 is pressed, you will hear a dial tone and see BBB on the LCD display, and the operation result is as same as pressing LINE3 and LINE4. The same function can also be performed when you press any idle Line key continuously. The LCD displays the used account and the dial tone can be heard. To make a call, select the line you wish to use. The LED of the corresponding line will light up. Switch lines before dialing by pressing the same LINE key continuously until the desired account is displayed on the LCD and the dial tone is played. For example: when LINE1 is pressed, the LCD displays AAA; If LINE1 is pressed twice, the LCD displays BBB and the subsequent call will be made through SIP account 2 BBB. When the phone is idle, press the corresponding key to answer the incoming call designated to a specific account. If the corresponding line is occupied, the ET523 will 15

For example, when the first multi-functional key is in use, you cannot use it for speed dialing/BLF.

Making a Call by Using an IP-Address

Direct IP calling allows two phones to talk to each other in an ad hoc fashion without a SIP proxy. VoIP calls can be made between two phones when:

Both phones have public IP addresses. Both phones obtain the private or public IP addresses on the same LAN/VPN network. Both phones can be connected through a router by using public or private IP addresses (with configuring a valid port or DMZ).

All the necessary ports should be open to the two phones. To make a direct IP call, do as follows: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Press OK to access the main menu. Select Direct IP Call by using the navigation keys. Press OK to select. Input the 12-digit target IP address. Press OK to initiate the call.

For example, if the target IP address is 192.168.1.60 and the port is 5062 (such as 192.168.1.60:5062), input 192*168*1*60#5062. The * key represents a dot . ; and the # key represents a colon : . Press OK to dial.

Quick IP Call Mode

Dial an IP address in the same LAN/VPN network by keying in the last octet of the IP address. This simulates a PBX function using the CMSA/CD without a SIP server. In this mode, the controlled static IP address is recommended to use. In the Advanced Settings page, set the Use Quick IP-call Mode to Yes. When #*xxx is dialed (the range of x is 0 9 and xxx is no larger than 255), a direct IP call is initiated as aaa.bbb.ccc.XXX. aaa.bbb.ccc is the local IP address regardless of the subnet mask. The numbers #*xx or #*x are also valid. The leading 0 is not mandatory 18

3 Using the IP Phone

For example:

192.168.0.2 calls 192.168.0.3 dial #*3, followed by SEND. 192.168.0.2 dials #*3; #*03; or #*003, which means the same call 192.168.0.3.

192.168.0.2 calls 192.168.0.23 dial #*23, followed by SEND. 192.168.0.2 calls 192.168.0.123 dial #*123, followed by SEND. If the SIP Server is configured, a Direct IP-IP call still works. If you use the STUN, the Direct IP-IP call will also use the STUN. Set Use Random Port to No when completing Direct IP calls.

Configuring the Phone Through Web Browser

The web server embedded in ET523 responds to HTTP/HTTPS GET/POST requests. Embedded HTML pages allow a user to configure the IP phone through any web browser.

Accessing the Web Configuration Menu

To access the web configuration menu of the phone, do as follows: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 Note:

Connect the computer with the phone in the same network. Make sure the phone is powered on and displays the IP address. Start the web browser on your computer. Enter the phone s IP-address in the address bar of the browser. Enter the administrator s password to access the web configuration menu.

The web-enabled computer has to be connected to the same sub-network as the phone. This can easily be done by connecting the computer to the same hub or switch as the phone is connected to. In absence of a hub/switch (or free ports on the hub/switch), connect the computer directly to the phone by using the PC port on the phone. If the phone is properly connected to a working Internet, the phone will display its IP address. The format of the address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx , in which xxxstands for a number from 0-255. You need this number to access the web configuration Menu. For example, if the phone displays 192168000160, enter http://192.168.0.160 in the address bar of the browser. The default administrator password is admin; the default end user password is 123. Figure 4-2 Login page

Table 4-3 Device configuration basic settings Field End User Password Description Contains the password to access the web configuration page. This field is case sensitive with a maximum length of 25 characters. The ET523 operates in two modes: DHCP/PPPoE mode: All the field values for the static IP mode are not used (even though they are still saved in the Flash memory). The ET523 acquires its IP address from the first DHCP server it discovers on its LAN. The host name and the domain name can be assigned by either DHCP server or manually. Preferred DNS can be changed but not recommended because the DHCP server handles all these. Host Name and Domain Name: The special DHCP options that are added to the DHCP Discover and DHCP Request after configuration. Preferred DNS: It overrides other DNS servers we received from DHCP or PPPoE if configured To use the PPPoE feature, the PPPoE account settings need to be set. The ET523 will attempt to establish a PPPoE session if any of the PPPoE fields is set. Static IP mode: Configure all of the following fields: IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Router IP address, DNS Server 1 (primary), DNS Server 2 (secondary). These fields are set to zero by default. You can assign a function to the corresponding function key. The available functions include: Speed dial Asterisk BLF Presence Watcher Eventlist BLF Each function is assigned to one of the 4 accounts and has a target user ID. This parameter controls the date/time display according to the specified time zone. If the DHCP Option 2 is enabled, the DHCP server can override and centrally control the Time Zone settings in the phone. The feature functions on the phone only when you have correctly set NTP server.

Field Daylight Savings Time

Description This parameter controls whether to set the displayed time to the daylight savings time. If it is set to Yes and the optional rule is empty, then the displayed time will be 1 hour ahead of the normal time. The daylight savings time will be automatically adjusted according to the rule set in the Optional Rule field. The rule syntax include: start-time end-time and saving. Both start-time and end-time have the same syntax: month, day, weekday, hour, minute. Month: 1,2,3, , 12 (for Jan, Feb, .., Dec) Day: [+|-]1,2,3, , 31 Weekday: 1, 2, 3, , 7 (for Mon, Tue, .., Sun), or 0 that means the daylight saving rule is not based on weekdays but based on the day of the month. hour: hour (0 23) minute: minute (0 59) If weekday is set to 0, it means the daylight saving time starts or ends at the given date. In this case, the day value cannot be negative. If weekday is not set to 0 and the day value is positive, then the daylight saving time starts on the first day iteration of the weekday (such as 1st Sunday, 3rd Tuesday etc). If weekday is not set to 0 and the day value is negative, then the daylight saving time starts on the last dayiteration of the weekday (last Sunday, 3rd last Tuesday etc). This feature is supported on the phone only when you have correctly set the NTP server.). The saving takes minuteas the unit. The saving time may also be preceded by a negative ( ) sign if subtraction is desired instead of addition. When the default Automatic Daylight Saving Time Rule value is set to 3,2,7,2,0;11,1,7,2,0;60, which complies the rule of US. For example: US/Canada where daylight saving time is applicable: 03,02,7,02,00;11,1,7,02,00;60. This means the daylight saving time starts from the second Sunday of March at 2 am and ends on the first Sunday of November at 2 am. The saving is 60 minutes. 33

Field Voice Frames per TX

Description This field contains the number of voice frames to be transmitted in a single Ethernet packet (be advised the limit is based on the maximum size of Ethernet packet, 1500 byte or 120 kbps). When setting this value, you should pay attention to the requested packet time (ptime used in SDP message). This parameter is associated with the first codec in the above codec preference list or the actual used payload type negotiated between the 2 conversation parties at the running time. For example, if the first codec is configured as G.723 and the Voice Frames per TX is set to 2, then the ptime value in the SDP message of an INVITE request will be 60 ms because each G.723 voice frame contains 30 ms of audio. Similarly, if this field is set to 2 and the first codec is G.729 or G.711 or G.726, then the ptime value in the SDP message of an INVITE request will be 20 ms. If the configured voice frames per TX exceeds the maximum value, the IP phone will use and save the maximum permitted value for the corresponding first codec choice. The maximum value for PCM is 10 (x10ms) frames; for G.726, it is 20 (x10ms) frames; for G.723, it is 32 (x30ms) frames; for G.729/G.728, 64 (x10ms) and 64 (x2.5ms) frames respectively. Pay attention to editing these parameters. Adjusting these parameters will also change the dynamic jitter buffer. The phone has a patent dynamic jitter buffer for handling algorithm. The jitter buffer range is 20 200 ms. You are recommends to use the default settings, and not to change these parameters as a common user. Incorrect settings will affect the voice quality. This field defines the Layer 3 QoS parameter. It is the value used for IP Precedence or Diff-Serv or MPLS. The default value is 48. This contains the value used for Layer 2 VLAN tag. The default setting is blank. The default value is 4 seconds. Dialed number will be sent out after this set duration without pressing SEND This parameter allows users to configure the # key as the SEND. If it is set to Yes, the # key will immediately send the call. If it is set to No, the # key is included as part of the dial string. 37

Field Local RTP port

Description This parameter defines the local RTP-RTCP port pair used to listen and transmit messages. It is the base RTP port for channel 0. When it is configured, channel 0 will take this port_value as RTP port value, and port_value+1 as the RTCP port value; channel 1 will take port_value+2 as the RTP port value and port_value+3 as the RTCP port value. The default value is 5004. When this parameter is set to Yes, the 523 will force the random generation of both the local SIP and RTP ports. This is usually necessary when multiple ET523s are behind the same NAT. The default value is No. This parameter specifies how often the ET523 sends a blank UDP packet to the SIP server in order to keep the holeon the NAT router open. The default value is 20 seconds. The minimum value is 10. NAT IP address used in the SIP/SDP message. The default setting is blank. IP address or Domain name of the STUN server. The STUN resolution result will display in the STATUS page of the Web configuration page. STUN NAT resolution does not work for symmetric NAT. STUN is a client-server protocol. A VoIP phone or software package may include a STUN client, which will send a request to a STUN server. The server then reports back to the STUN client what the public IP address of the NAT router is, and what port is opened by the NAT to allow incoming traffics back to the network. This radio button will enable the ET523 to download the firmware or configuration files through either HTTP or local TFTP server.

Software Upgrade & Customization

Upgrade the software (or firmware) through either TFTP or HTTP. The corresponding configuration settings are in the ADVANCED SETTINGS configuration page.

Firmware Upgrade Through TFTP/HTTP

To upgrade through TFTP or HTTP, select TFTP or HTTP upgrade method. Set Upgrade Server to a valid URL of a HTTP server. The server name can be in either FQDN or IP address format. Here are examples of valid URLs.

firmware.mycompany.com:6688/Huawei/ET523 168.75.215.189 Keypad Menu Web configuration interface

There are two ways to set up the Upgrade Server to upgrade firmware:

Keypad Menu
Select Config > Upgrade to configure the upgrade server through the keypad menu. Under the submenu, you can edit the IP address and domain name of the upgrade server. Select TFTP or HTTP in the Upgrade Via menu. Press LFET to exit the menu. Then select Reboot in the main menu to reboot the phone.

Web Configuration Interface

To configure the upgrade server through the web configuration interface, open the web browser. Enter the ET523 IP address. Enter the admin password to access the web configuration interface. In the Advanced Settings page, select the TFTP or HTTP upgrade method. In the Firmware Server Path field, enter the IP address or FQDN of the firmware server. In the Config Server Pat field, enter the IP address or FQDN of the config server. For example, if the server's IP address is 192.169.9.31, and the firmware and configuration files are located in the directory /dir , then you need to input 192.169.9.31/dir in the above motioned fields. Step 3 Step 4

Update the change by clicking the Update button. Reboot or power cycle the phone to update the new firmware.

During this stage, the LCD will display the firmware file downloading process. If a firmware upgrade fails for any reason (for example, the TFTP/HTTP server is not responding, there are no code image files available for upgrade, or checksum test fails), the phone will stop the upgrading process and re-boot using the existing firmware/software. Firmware upgrades take around 20 seconds in a controlled LAN or 2 3 minutes over the Internet. Huawei recommends you to complete firmware upgrades in a controlled LAN environment whenever possible.

Solution for No Local TFTP Server

For users without local TFTP servers, Huawei provides a NAT-friendly TFTP server on the public Internet. They can download latest firmware. Check the support/download section of our website to obtain this TFTP server IP address: http://www.huawei.com/y firmware.htm. Each product has a unique TFTP server address. Alternatively, the user can download and install a free TFTP or HTTP server to perform firmware upgrades in the LAN. A free Windows version TFTP server is available on the address: http://tftpd32.jounin.net.

Configuring the Local TFTP Server

Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 The PC runs the TFTP server and the ET523 should be in the same LAN segment. Properly configure the parameters of the TFTP server. (The configuration steps are subject to different TFTP servers.) Start the TFTP server. 52

Step 4 Step 5

Configure the IP address of the firmware server path on the web configuration page. Update the change and reboot the phone.

The users can download the HTTP server for free in the Internet. When the ET523 boots up, it will send the TFTP or HTTP request for downloading the configuration file cfg001882xxxxxx, in which 001882xxxxxx is the MAC address of the ET523. This file is for initial provisioning only. For normal TFTP or HTTP firmware upgrades, the following error messages in a TFTP or HTTP server log can be ignored: TFTP Error from [IP ADRESS] requesting cfg00188223dd45: File does not exist. Configuration File Download .

Downloading the Configuration File

The ET523 can be configured through the web interface and the configuration file on the TFTP or HTTP server. Config Server Path is the TFTP or HTTP server path for the configuration file. It needs to be set with a valid URL, either in FQDN or IP address format. A configuration parameter is associated with each particular field in the web configuration page. A parameter consists of a capital letter P and the digit 2 3 (can be extended to 4 in the future). For example, P2 is associated with Admin Password in the Advanced Settings page. For a detailed parameter list, refer to the corresponding configuration template of the firmware. Once the ET523 boots up (or reboots), it will request a configuration file named cfgxxxxxxxxxxxx, in which xxxxxxxxxxxx is the MAC address of the device, such as cfg0018820102AB. The name of the configuration file should be in lower case. With no effect on the firmware upgrade, this function needs the support of other software. If needed, contact the service provider.

Managing Firmware and Downloaded Configuration File

When Automatic Upgrade is set to Yes, a service provider can use P193 (Auto Check Interval in minute, and the default and minimum interval is 60 minutes) to check devices periodically for upgrades at pre-scheduled interval. By defining different intervals in P193 for different devices, a server provider can manage and reduce the firmware or provisioning server load at any given time. 53
