Hello Brothers! My name is Patrick Finnegan, and it brings me great honor to say that I am the current president of our chapter, Washington Beta. At 97 members, Phi is the largest Greek organization at Whitman College. Last semester, WA Beta brothers have served as Student Body president, treasurer, and senior and sophomore class senators. Two brothers are all-American tennis players, with an additional two receiving the honor this year. We are resident assistants, captains of varsity tennis and swim teams, captains of club skiing, volleyball and taekwondo, Watson Fellows, Fulbright Scholars, and destroyers of all that is TKE. Currently the chapter boasts more varsity captains and club captains than any group on campus; has tied for the highest GPA (3.3) amongst other fraternities for the sixth consecutive semester; completed more than 1,600 hours of philanthropy last year; and recently became the first Iron Phi Chapter in the history of Washington Beta, raising over $11,000 for the ALS Association. In short, I firmly believe that we are perpetuating a Washington Beta tradition of being heavily involved in many aspects of life at Whitman, while maintaining the commitment we have to one another as brothers in the bond. Though we are separated by distance, I hope this letter finds Washington Beta alumni and their families successful, healthy and happy. -Patrick Finnegan

A NOTE FROM THE ALUMNI SECRETARY

Hello Brothers! My name is Kyle Howe and I am the new Alumni Secretary from Phi Delta Theta: Washington Beta. I am starting a system to write a newsletter for the Alumni once a semester to keep the Phi alumni updated with Fraternity events, and alumni reunions on campus. From the 26th to the 28th of April, Whitman celebrated the th 100 year anniversary of the introduction of the Greek system on campus. On the 27th the administration hosted an event just the alumni. Next school year, Phi will be celebrating its 100th year anniversary since joining the Greek system here at Whitman. There is already a reunion being planned for the last weekend of September, with my successor Evie Veemer planning a huge celebration at Phi for all of you alumni to attend. Alumni weekend is a great opportunity to visit campus again and catch up with old friends. The doors of Phi are always open to any Phi Alum. It would be great to meet you all, and I hope to see you soon. Mark your calendars for the alumni reunion in the fall, hope to see you there!

IRON PHI An event that is new this year, called the Iron Horse Challenge, is currently taking the main stage for philanthropy on April 19-22. The Iron Horse challenge is a relay style running event that consists of 15 runners running to the middle of Washington State. Once we reach the location, we will be met by three other chapters who have also run from their respective locations. The goal of this event is to raise money and awareness for Lou Gehrig's disease and to become an Iron Phi chapter. To become an Iron Phi chapter, our team for the Iron Horse Challenge must raise over $10,000. On a more individual level, if a member raises over $1000, they become an Iron Phi. They will receive a special bond number along with many other benefits. With the event now finished Washington Beta members raised over $11,000 for the fundraiser. NOTES Members enjoy a burrito from the Tacqueria in the wheat fields surrounding Whitman. The incoming pledge class had 32 members with 26 initiating.

ALUMNI COMMITTEE
If you are interested in supporting WA Beta and becoming a CAB member, please let me know. Even if you arent located in Walla Walla, or even in the state of Washington, the support and past experience that you can provide as an alumnus will be greatly appreciated and valuable to the chapter. If you are in a position to visit once a semester, that would be fantastic, but we understand that may not be possible with many of you. As a member of the CAB, you would work with a specific officer and be responsible for communicating with that officer, assisting in goal setting, holding members accountable, and providing oversight and general advice or wisdom in your areas of expertise. During earlier contacts, we received a lot of support and interest from recent alumni. However, a CAB filled with only graduates from the last five years is not representative of the alumni base as a whole. Therefore, we are especially hoping to hear from alumni who graduated in the 90s and before to become involved. Right now, we are looking for alumni who would be interested in advising the chapter and its officers in the areas of philanthropy, recruitment, scholarship, alumni relations, and pledge education.
