According BS EN12845
11.2.2 Size of installations The net volume of the pipework downstream of the control valve set shall not exceed that shown in Table 18, unless a calculation and test shows that the maximum time between a sprinkler opening and water discharging is less than 60 s.

According BS EN12845
11.1.3 Size of installations The maximum area controlled by a single wet alarm valve, including any sprinklers in a subsidiary extension, shall not exceed that shown in Table 17.

Fluid Delivery Time

Water delivery time is primarily determined by: The configuration and volume of the piping network System air pressure at the time of accelerator trip Number and orifice size of open sprinkler(s) Water supply characteristics

Example Dry system: Purpose

To meet up with the required Fluid Delivery Time according the standard (EN12845, NFPA13, FM, VdS). Predict the Fluid Delivery Time in the engineering phase. To reduce the amount dry alarm valves, feed connections, shut off valves, air maintenance devices and ITCs.

Example Dry system: Conclusion and results

FDT

calculation proves and allows a dry system with a volume of dm3 to be supplied with one Dry Pipe Valve. According table 18 of the EN12845 this system should be supplied with 3 Dry Pipe Valves. The SprinkFDT calculation saves the installation of 2 additional dry alarm valves, 2 shutoff valves and the feed connections to the different systems. Instead of 3 feed connections only 1. system requires an Inspection Test Connection. This can be reduced from 3 to 1 one. Saves 2 test connections. system requires an air maintenance device. So you will save 2 devices.
