Asoko ni gakusei ga imasu. 'There is a student over there.' The ParticIe ni is attached to N denoting place and expresses the location of something that exists. Arimasu (Dictionary form aru) is used for inanimate objects or abstract N such as books, telephones, problems, causes, etc., while imasu (Dictionary form iru) is used for living beings such as people, dogs, fish, birds, etc.
