DEAR BRETHREN: Where did the first six months of 2013 go? Seems like just yesterday I was sitting in the East for the first meeting nervous and hoping not to make too many mistakes. Now it is July and Im not as nervous but still hoping not to make many mistakes. I have found that with every day that passes I learn something new about Masonry. July will be another busy month. We will have five Porch Nights, A Stated Meeting on the 11 th. The Lodge breakfast on the 13th. We will also start practicing for the Master Mason Degree on the 18th. We will also practice for the MM Degree on some Wednesday evenings depending on everyones schedule. As you already know we are still nowhere close to being able to get the new roof that we desperately need. Now we are faced with another problem. We have a slab leak under the Lodge that became apparent when we received our last JEA bill the end of June. Thanks to PM Mike Stoinoff and PDDGM Alan McQuaig for taking time during the day to meet with plumbers and JEA reps to determine where the problem is. This is an issue that CANT wait. We are in the process of discussing whether to fix the leak at the source or to re-pipe the Lodge. Either way we will need money and muscle to get this fixed. With the decline in membership and the amount of Brothers that have not paid their dues it is going to be impossible for Hyde Park Lodge to continue unless something changes very soon. The two fundraisers that we have had has made a little bit but nothing like they should have with a Lodge that has 169 members. We have one more fundraiser in October and I will ask each of you to PLEASE support this one. If each Brother were to purchase the five tickets that are mailed to you the Lodge would receive around $5,000. We also are able to charge your dues on your credit card now if that makes it easier for you. Brothers, YOU filled out your petition, YOU asked to become a Mason, YOU received the three degrees, YOU were raised, IM just asking for your support. Please congratulate Bro. SECRETARYS DESK: DEAR BRETHERN, We are going to be face with some very serious decisions on the future of our beloved Hyde Park Lodge. We are struggling with just the normal operating expenses, membership is on steady decline, membership renewal is slipping and suspension of Brothers is increasing. I would like to thank all the Brothers who help put on fundraisers their hard work is always appreciated and thank all the Brothers who support the fundraisers with your support we would be nothing. I understand not everyone can attend every event but the past few fundraisers have been profitable; however it could have been better. We simply can keep going on as we are. We have the same FEW Brothers attending Stated Meetings, same Brothers helping with fund raisers, Degrees etc. My Brothers we ARE heading in a direction that will LEAD to the end of Hyde Park, the reality is this without change we will be forced to (1)merge with another Lodge (2) consolidate with another Lodge,( 3) or close our doors and we all demit to whatever Lodge we see fit. My Brothers this is not just at Hyde Park it is all over the 11th &12th, Florida and the Country. Brothers we either change with the times or we will be no more. We are now set up to take credit cards if you wish to pay your dues or make a donation contact R.W. Alan McQuaig. Dear Brother, At the beginning of the year, our Worshipful Master sent you a letter concerning the condition of some of the things about our Lodge that needed to be addressed. One particular thing is our Lodge roof. Now we have another problem. We have a slab leak under the floor. The cheapest way to fix it is to replace the water pipes. That is a problem that needs to be addressed before the roof but, we still have the dilemma with the roof. As he said at the first of the year, we send out tickets for fundraisers to try and not raise the membership dues. We dont want to propose an assessment which is mandatory to be paid by each member or they will be suspended. If, we raise the dues, we are looking at raising to about $165.00 in order to meet this goal. If we propose an assessment, we are looking at about $160.00 one time in order to meet our goal. We dont want to do either one but, something needs to happen. So far, we have had two fundraisers. The BBQ in March, we cleared $1,000.00 after expenses. The Past Masters Spaghetti Fundraiser, we cleared $781.00 after expenses. Due to the low turnout, neither one of them was worth the work that went into them not only by the Brothers but, some of their wives who helped. We have one more BBQ Fundraiser on October 5th from 11:00AM to 4:00PM.The Brothers that have bought the tickets in the past, we thank you so, very much. We have some Brothers that havent even paid their dues and you know who you are. Dues notices will be going out in September. We have 169 members left and sometimes, it is hard to get enough members at a meeting to fill the Officers chairs not to mention the sidelines. This is your Lodge. You joined this Lodge for some reason. I know that I joined because I wanted to meet new people and fellowship with others. I have been a member of this Fraternity and this Lodge for 20 years and I have met a lot of great Brothers. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at Hyde Park Lodge. There are some of you that I have never had the pleasure of meeting and I would very much like to. Brothers, I know that times are hard and we all feel it but, in order for this Lodge to survive, it needs you. Not just your money but it needs you too.
