The Library Part 1: Summary of Concepts

(Sorry for the bad diagram, working on a better digitized version. Any help would be greatly appreciated.)

1. Summary: As the underlying structure for the greater macroverse, The Library is the singular place where everything that has been, is, and will be, exists. It is overseen by two entities, which, for the sake of simplicity (and my inability to create any other term that fits), will henceforth be referred to as the Dark Librarian and the Light Librarian. They are the respective male/female halves of the Creator (#5). Aside from them, the only other entity

outside of the Library is the Archivist, whose appointed task is to record all things, spanning from the dawn of time up to and including its ending. The shape of the Library (how much of it we can comprehend, anyways) is that of a heptagon, with the nexus at its center, each of the Seven Pillars at the corners, and time/souls flowing between these (see diagram). 2. The Seven Pillars: At each of the seven corners of the Library is a pillar, each of which is subsequently comprised of seven levels. Each of these levels holds 49 panes (#3), which makes for 343 panes per pillar and 2401 panes within the Library at any given time. Pillars are the interval points in the flow of time/souls, housing the panes in which souls create energy through lifetimes. The pillar in which a soul begins is relative to its particular cycle of rebirth. For example, a soul who first enters Pillar #6 for its first lifetime, before having entered any other pillars for any other lifetimes on its journey of soul progression, will have Pillar #6 as its prime, or Pillar #1, as relative to that souls cycle of rebirth, or Soul Progression. 3. Panes: Each Pane is essentially a sort of template reality, representing one particular multiverse, one particular turn of events, or one particular way how the multiverse could have turned out. These templates have within them infinitely many reflections (minor variations on the template pane), with varying degrees of strength. For example, a strong reflection will resemble a full pane, with souls being able to live full lives, and generate positive/negative energy based upon their actions. Weak reflections, however, will be desolate, sometimes with only a few aberrant souls, or none at all, or entities that cannot exist within a conventional pane/multiverse, but are allowed to enter the weaker threshold inherent within the weaker reflection. These weaker reflections also lack much of the infrastructure found in stronger ones, resulting in weaker reality bases. The way time flows

between/through panes is similar to the way light behaves when beamed through a prism, refracting into multiple unique aspects. With each pane it passes through, time is bent and refracted, causing a time discrepancy between panes. In relation to the time upon exiting a row of panes however, the timeflow is bent to its original state. 4. The Librarians: a. The Dark Librarian: Representing both the male half of the macroverse and negative energy, the Dark Librarian is tasked with destroying those panes that have reached a certain quota of energy (unique to each pane), leaving space for the Light Librarian to create new panes. (Note: A pane that has been destroyed will be recreated exactly as it was. This process is more similar to refreshing, rather than removing.) b. The Light Librarian: Representing the female half of the macroverse, and positive energy, it is the Light Librarians appointed duty to create new panes where the Dark Librarian has removed them. Both of the Librarians must constantly be on exact opposite sides of the Library at all times, equidistant from one another, so as to maintain a balance of positive/negative energy, and to avoid a tipping of the scales towards either. In this fashion, the Librarians rotate clockwise around the Library (as viewed from above, if such were possible). Once a full circuit has transpired (meaning the Librarians have traveled a full 360 degrees and all panes have been destroyed and replaced), this marks the passing of one age. As a product of the necessity of balance requiring the Librarians to occupy opposing sections of the Library, which is itself a seven-sided structure, a Librarian can only enter a pillar when the other Librarian is traveling between pillars. For example, the Dark Librarian can only inhabit Pillar #1 when the Light Librarian is between Pillars #4 and #5, and thus exactly opposite of Pillar #1 in the heptagonal shape of the Library. This sub-cycle of Pillar

occupation/release creates a necessary balance, yet also allows a slight wobble to the overall positive/negative energy resonance of the Library as a whole. When the Dark Librarian is in Pillar occupation, the Light Librarian is, by necessity, in Pillar release, and the Library proper takes on a more negative energy resonance. Conversely there is a positive energy resonance when the Light Librarian is in Pillar occupation and the Dark Librarian is in Pillar release. Another useful metaphor for this would be lunar cycles. 5. The Creator: Prior to dividing itself into the Library and the two Librarians, the Creator was one of the First, the progenitors of all that has been, is, and will be. They dwell, or perhaps dwelt, in a realm wholly separate from the Library, outlying all that exists. The Creator had been of middling rank in the First before the creation of the Library. The Archivist is another member of the First. 6. Realms/Soul Theory: Within each pane, or reflection of a pane, is a multiverse comprised of three realms: physical, mental, and spiritual. Most sentients (intelligent and soul-bearing species) are aware of the physical and, to a lesser extent, the mental ( if one were to assume their pane had a similar realm trend to our own; mostly physical, a slight bit of mental, and a miniscule amount of spiritual). The tangible physical world that surrounds us comprises of the first, and most basic of these realms. This is what we can observe with our (specific species) physical senses. Occupying a wholly separate space is the beings mental self, where thoughts and ideas have direct consequences. The third realm is the spiritual, where the resultant energy from your actions in the other two realms is accumulated, and will dictate your status/position in the next pane/reflection, and your initial positive/negative ratio in the next life. Each pane has a unique ratio in which the three realms have dominance. For example, our own is entirely predominated by the physical, so

it is (mostly) only our physical actions that have direct effect on the physical world around us. Whereas in a pane/reflection with an almost equal distribution of mental and physical, thoughts could have an equal effect on the physical world. This type of situation will often manifest as sentients cultivating magic, which is really a combination of the physical/mental/spiritual realm energy ratio of that pane/reflection and subject to limits determined by said ratio. Depending upon the set of conditions within a given pane, this will be a learnable ability inherent through all beings, usable only by some, or available only through objects. So, following this magic can be defined as: The influence of one or more realms upon another in such a way as would conventionally be impossible. As a soul journeys throughout the Library, living various lives within the panes, it accumulates either positive or negative energy, based upon its actions within those lives. Actions in a pane will generate different amounts of energy, depending upon the ratio of dominance between the three realms. For instance, in a predominantly physical realm (like our own), physical actions will yield a much higher amount of energy than a positive or negative thought/spiritual action. Once a certain energy quota has been met, a soul will (after it has passed on in whatever pane it currently living in), move on to a nearby pane, living two or three lifetimes, then move on to another Pillar, finding panes in or near the same co-habitability set as the panes they had just previously occupied. Co-habitability sets are groups of panes, seven in each, with one pane for each Pillar. Panes within these sets vibrate at similar frequencies, and will generally have somewhat similar circumstances, or condition sets, within. However, panes within co-sets vibrate at a dissimilar enough frequency so as to prevent cross-panal bridging--where two or more panes meld into one, something that can severely disrupt the Librarys functions.

Within the Library, as a soul lives various lifetimes, it will attain differing levels of consciousness, also known as the Celestial Hierarchy. This denotes how far upon the cycle of re-birth the individual soul has travelled, and what level of consciousness they have attained so far. The first, or base point, is where every soul begins--in the body of a nonsentient, often an animal. Next (after being visited by a Necanecum, if circumstances dictate), is the standard sentient level, which is what we all currently occupy, being that of a mortal, yet self-aware species. Following this is the third level, enlightenment, or elevated sentience. This is between mortal and non-mortal, perhaps a demigod. The fourth level can be roughly equated to that of a polytheistic, or lesser "god", representing a particular aspect of life. Fifth is equivalent in scope to the God of the Abrahamic religions, being higher than all previous levels. Sixth on this scale is that of the planetary consciousness, for example, Gaia, in our case. Seventh would be a stellar awareness; to be the "soul" of a star, and outlying all terrestrial planes. This scale continues onwards, but eventually re-sets.

7. The Conflict: The destabilization of the Library (and the proper beginning of the story, insofar,) begins with the murder of the Archivist, by the Dark Librarian. Jealous of the Light Librarians ability to create, rather than being only able to unmake, he kills the Archivist, and absorbs his essence. In doing so, He has imbalanced the macroverse; allowing negative energy to be more prevalent than positive. Now, he is free to exert his will upon any pane of his choosing, and in an internal way, or even destroy them completely, before the Light librarian can create them. This creates for the first time a condition in which a soul may have no pane to enter, making for odd discrepancies in soul density from pane to pane. It is all the Light librarian can do to keep pace with the rampant negative energy flowing throughout the Library, much less create new panes. So, in a last-ditch effort to rebalance

the Library, she takes the excess souls and energy that have been pushed out of the normal cycle, and creates thirteen prime panes; panes having within them circumstances conducive to pan-multiversal unification and enlightenment. (Alright, I know that one was a little out there, so ill do my best to explain it.) This pan-multiversal nirvana would consist of the rebalancing of the positive/negative energy, and the eventual unification of the three realms that make up the macroverse; physical, spiritual, and mental. All of this eventually coalesces into complete unity throughout the pane. To achieve this, a key individual, group, or even generations of individuals must manually repair the energy imbalance, which is manifested as direct change/conflict in their worlds (panes). These individuals are in turn known as primes, with one (or more, depending on the prime pane,) hailing from each of the thirteen prime panes. Within these thirteen, she has seeded seven sentient species (mankind among them, will work out a complete list later.), all of which have a potential to produce a prime soul from among them. However, before any of them can hope to do so, the must be able to peacefully make contact (or avoid it?), and also be able to overcome the seven species that the Dark Librarian has placed to counteract her efforts (again, will make a list of these once things get rolling.), and any direct actions he may take to hinder/destroy those species placed by the Light Librarian. So, in essence, these prime individuals must, through their actions, achieve a total balance of positive/negative energy, and unification of the three realms (mind, body, spirit). This may not always be clear as they fufill their given destinies, and most are never aware of the true implications of the actions they take, which extend far further than any of them can (yet) hope to comprehend.

8. The Necanecum/Uborum: Aside from the Librarians, (and a few other entities,) the Necanecum and the Uborum are the only beings to reside outside of panes full-time. a. The Necanecum: Perhaps (in our view of civilized,) the more civilized of the two, the Necanecum live along the streams of time flowing between pillars, where they inhabit vast, free-floating cities known as Enclaves. They subsist upon the energy accumulated by souls, which they find while riding upon the inter-panal currents of time alongside those souls moving from pane to pane. However, they do not take so much as to be detrimental the the souls journey; only enough to feed themselves. The kind of energy that the Necanecum feeds on dictates its personality and individual traits. From this, the Necanecum have coalesced into three distinct factions; each of these based around the balance of energy harvested from sould. These are: The White, feeding only on positive energy, and adverse to causing negative energy (meaning a general sense of goodwill towards pane-based sentients,), (Sorry, going to finish this tomorrow.)
