GEA Group
As an internationally operating technology group, the company focuses on process technology and components for demanding production processes in various end markets. The group generates about 70 percent of its revenue from the long-term growing food and energy industries. The GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft is currently present in more than 50 countries worldwide, and is active in all growth regions. The GEA Group provides GEA Batignolles Technologies Thermiques (GEA BTT) with a solid foundation and, through partnership with other Group members, allows a greater scope of supply. These close relationships with organizations that are themselves leaders in their fields provide GEA BTT with inspiration to stimulate its own development and maintain its market leading technology. GEA Group Aktiengesellschaft is one of the largest system providers for food and energy processes.
Editorial
GEA Batignolles Technologies Thermiques has more than 50 years of experience designing heat exchangers: dry aircooled condensers, humidified aircooled refrigerant, vacuum steam condensers. GEA BTT offers you a reliable and strong support to operate and maintain your heat exchangers with two structures: in-house Customer Support Services department; and its subsidiary service company GEA Airflow Services. GEA BTT provides spare parts and services for all kinds of aircooled heat exchangers, GEA BTT is able to perform re-engineering of sub-elements and parts designed by other OEM, designed and manufactured several decades ago. GEA BTT serves you through its network of 3 factories (France, Qatar and China), 1 service company and more than 20 distributors worldwide. GEA BTT performs thermal re-sizing of existing exchangers, using latest versions and developments of design proprietary software. GEA BTT does mechanical rerating, re-designing to adapt heat exchangers to the new processes, new directives and latest amendments of international laws. Contact GEA BTT (bttspares@geagroup.com) and GEA AFS (airflow@geagroup.com) to implement a strong support for running your heat exchangers. All our experienced staff will become your partner for your operations. Exploring GEA BTT spare parts catalogue which describes the complete range of our spare parts offers, you will see rotating parts, gaskets and sealing, finned tubes, finned tubes bundles, tools for maintenance and setting. GEA Airflow Services performs aircooled heat exchangers assessments on GEA BTT heat exchangers, and other fabricators heat exchangers as well. GEA AFS modifies existing heat exchangers to cope with more performance, extra output.
Tube bundles
With more than 42 000 bundles manufactured since 1958, GEA BTT is your best partner to replace your bundles. From the simplest carbon steel bundle to the most complex alloy steel or titanium bundle, we meet your requirements for any bundle replacement or bundle upgrade. GEA BTT can design & manufacture new bundles with your new thermal conditions. Maximum specification: width: 4.2 meters length: 19 meters (with 60 feet long tubes) pressure: 500 bar
We manufacture bundles for all kinds of services (hydrogen, H2S, wet H2S / sour, lethal, toxic, CO2, cyclic, amine, ...). We can replace one or various parts of your bundle.
Headers
Core component of the air coolers, the header design and manufacturing is the GEA BTT speciality. We use all kinds of welding method (GTAW, GMAW, electron beam welding ...), heat treatments and coatings. GEA BTT is also approved for headers & bundles repairs (ASME R-STAMP). Materials: Carbon steel & low carbon steel Cupro nickel Stainless steel (304, 316, 321, etc ...) Duplex & super duplex (UNS S31254, UNS S31803, UNS S32205, UNS S32750 etc ...) Inconel (UNS N06625) Incoloy (UNS N08825) Hastelloy (UNS N10276) Titanium (B265)
Plug header
The plug header is suitable for working pressure up to 350 bar. The plug hole opposite each tube allows expansion of the tube in the tube sheet, mechanical cleaning, and plugging in case of leakage. In case of high partial hydrogen pressure, tube attachments can be sealed or strength welded through the plug hole.
Pipe header
The pipe header is used for working pressures over 200 bar when no inner access is necessary. Finned tubes hair pins are assembled with TIG butt weld. Welds can be thermally treated and X-rayed if needed.
D type header
A large circular manifold is used when the allowable pressure drop is very low. This large manifold ensures an equal distribution of fluid flow in the tubes. This type is used for vacuum steam condensers and refrigeration units.

Tubes
GEA BTT supplies finned tubes with seamless or welded base tubes of all kind of material depending on the service: Tube diameters: 1, 1 , 1, 2 Fins pitch: 8 to 11 fins per inch Carbon steel & low carbon steel (T11, etc ...) Cupro nickel Stainless steel (304, 316, 321, etc ...) Duplex & super duplex (UNS S31803, UNS S31254, UNS S32707, UNS 32750, etc ...) Inconel (UNS N06625) Incoloy (UNS N08825) Hastelloy (UNS N10276) Titanium (B265)
The heat transfer surface of air-cooled heat exchangers is extended using aluminum spiral fins. The thermal conductivity of this material is efficient. Moreover the purchasing and conversion costs are competitive.

A core tube, carefully degreased, is fitted into an aluminium sleeve. This tube-in-tube assembly is then fed into the finning machine equipped with three spindles, spaced 120 degrees and each fitted with a gang disc. These discs, which are stepped in profile and diameter, will first extrude and shape the fin, and then bond it to the core tube. GEA Batignolles Technologies Thermiques has developed a high performance bimetallic extruder with 11 fins /inch. Since 1992 a 2-inch diameter extruded finned tube has been brought in production. It combines a large flow area with a long life suitable for vacuum steam condensers.
The fin consists of an aluminium strip, which is tension-wrapped and embedded into the core tube wall. This results from the combined action of a set of tools. Operating sequences are as follows: the first disc (groover) spins a groove into the tube wall the ring spacer leads the strip foot-edge into the groove finally the second disc (backfiller) firmly embeds the strip foot-edge into the groove by caulking the groove lip
An aluminium strip is folded to form an L-shape and then wound around the base tube. The feet of the fins are joined together so as to ensure a continuous cover on the primary tube surface. The whole width of the foot of the fin is knurled simultaneously with the inner tube, thus ensuring a tight contact between the spiral fin and the primary tube.
The aluminium strip foot section is first formed into a double L-stepped shape. This results in a fin base twice as large as that of a single Lshape. The LL-fin strip is then wrapped onto the primary tube so as to obtain an overlap on the 1st stepping of the LL-shaped fin. A continuous and double strip cover against corrosive environment then efficiently protects the primary tube.

Humidifier
The humidifier system is mostly used in hot and dry climate countries when ambient air temperature and product temperature are too close. Water droplets are used to reduce ambient air temperature. Then, the inlet air flow is dried through mist elimination blades in order to avoid finned tubes corrosion.
The principle is based on the cooling of the air at a temperature close to its temperature of adiabatic saturation per water evaporation. Depending on climatic environment, a properly designed fogging system can decrease the inlet air temperature by as much as 12C (54F) which in turn increases considerably your cooling capacity.

Cleaning
Semi automatic HP cleaning machine
A flat razor-blade sharp water beam is used to remove fouling from between the fins. This cleaning process uses only water, no chemicals. Water pressure is 80 100 bar, flow 150 or 300 l/min. By using the correct nozzle angles the water beam penetrates between the fins of all tube rows. The nozzle beam is moved over the bundles by pneumatic or electric drives, avoiding operators standing on the coolers. Cleaning can be done during operation. The cleaning unit is a light weight construction to be positioned on top of the bundles or on rails installed on the cooler bundles. One cleaning system can handle 2 - 4 air coolers in one day shift. Obstructions like louvers can be dealt with by installing rails between the bundle frame and the louvers. The cleaning-water can be collected and reused after cleaning.
