com Drama Expectations Theatre is a disciplined art, and as such, you are expected to be on time and ready to work. You are also expected to work with your fellow actors in a pleasant, constructive way. In this class you can tap into your own creativity, gain self-confidence, and experience working collaboratively with others. You will discover that working in theatre almost always means being part of a team. This is a class where teamwork, dependability, and discipline arent just words, they are tools of the trade. During this class, you will learn to work with your peers and become a critical listener and viewer, qualities that will serve you well no matter where your future takes you. Rehearsal Expectations 1. 2. 3. 4. Bring your script, a pencil, and all other materials with you every day. Stay on task. Work only in your group unless otherwise instructed. Keep criticism respectful and constructive. Performance Expectations 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Be quiet and still; have supplies ready in advance. Do not try to distract performers. Be supportive before, during, and after performances. Keep criticism constructive and offer it only when appropriate. No one should enter or leave the classroom during a performance. No gum or candy during your performance. And, yes, no texting during any performance. Do not interrupt when someone else is talking.

Student Behavior Responsibilities 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Respect one anothers ideas, performances, and things. Use only constructive criticism. Be in class on time. Foul language will not be tolerated. Turn your cell phones off and refrain from texting anyone.

6. Once youre in the classroom, you will not be allowed to leave, unless I feel there is an emergency.

Auditorium and Stage Expectations 1. No gum in the house or on stage. 2. Be very careful with food and drink; you are responsible for cleaning any spills and disposing of your own trash. If this becomes a problem, food and drink will be prohibited. 3. Use the stairs to get on the stage. 4. Keep off the catwalk. 5. Stay out of the sound and light booth unless you have been trained to be there. 6. The lighting booth, stage, and auditorium are not lockers. 7. Treat all equipment with respect, especially the wireless mics. You break them; you pay for them. 8. You mess it up; you clean it up! 9. Books, backpacks, or clothing left in the auditorium will be sent to the lost and found in the office at school. 10. Use good manners at all times. 11. Be respectful to all employees at the Larned Community Center. 12. Again, respect yourself and others! 13. Respect the theatreyoull be there often. 14. Keep the prop room and costume room clean. If you borrow or use something there, put it back where you found it. Act well your partthere in all the honor lies. Grading System Participation: 1. Students will receive 20 points per day for participation. 2. If the student refuses to participate in an exercise, the student will receive a zero for that day. 3. If the student is not on task, the student will receive a zero for that day. 4. If the student is disruptive or disrespectful during a performance, the student will receive a zero for that day. (Making faces, noises, gestures, etc. Texting and sleeping are also disrespectful actions during a performance.) 5. Absences: a. If a student is absent and the absence is not excused, the student will receive a zero for participation for that day.

b. If a student is absent and the absence is excused, the student will be required to write a one-page report to make up the points. If the student does not write a report, the student will receive a zero for participation that day. c. If a student is absent because of a school activity, the student will NOT be required to write a paper. Daily Work: Learning lines on time, props, costuming, and all other daily assignments turned in on time will count toward daily points. Tests/Quizzes: 1. Written tests, quizzes, performing monologues, scenes, and performances on the assigned date will count toward test or quiz points. 2. Students will be required to have lines memorized beginning two weeks before the performance. 3. Students who call for a line or miss an entrance will have points deducted from their test grade. 4. Students who use profanity or inappropriate remarks, gestures, or innuendos in a performance for shock value only will have points deducted from their test grade. Performance Requirements 1. All drama students will be required to take part in the Dinner Theater and the Fall Musical in order to pass this class if you are enrolled in the fall class. The musical will count as 600 test points as well. 2. If a drama student misses an outside, after-school rehearsal for the musical, the following deductions will occur from their test grade: a. 50 points for one missed rehearsal date. b. 100 points for two missed rehearsal dates. c. 150 points for three or more rehearsal dates. d. 100 points for not staying to tear down and clean up **ALL students will be required to check out after tearing down the set and cleaning the stage. **ALL students will return their props and costumes to their respective places. **The success you have in this class will result in your ability to try new things, to respect the ideas of others, to listen and appreciate the contributions of your classmates, and to accept your role as part of the group. If you do that, you will not only succeed, but you will be a positive contribution for successful performances as well.

Dinner Theater: Performances: Saturday, September 28 Sunday, September 29 Evening Rehearsals: Monday through Friday the previous week. These rehearsals will begin at 6:00 P.M. Fall Musical: Performances: Friday, November 17: Elementary and LMS students Saturday, November 18: 7:30 P.M. Sunday, November 19: 2:00 P.M. Because of the change in parent-teacher conferences, we will be having three weeks of evening rehearsals. We will begin at 4:00 P.M. Those performers who are basketball players will come immediately following those practices.
