TO QUALIFY:
In order to meet the screening qualifications for this recruitment, applicants must have a combination of education and experience equivalent to that outlined below, plus any other listed screening qualifications. The following guidelines will be used in evaluating applications. Hours less than 40 per week will be prorated. Relevant experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Relevant education may substitute for some or all of the required experience. Post-high school education will be credited on the basis of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours equal one year. Experience: Two years of experience in a relevant social service field working with children and/or families in the Spanish-speaking community is required. Experience developing educational programs for children of different ages is also required. One year of experience supervising paid staff and/or volunteers is highly desired. Experience working in a library or an educational setting is preferred. Public speaking experience, including training others, teaching classes, and/or presenting programs is desired. Training: Equivalent of a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in early childhood development, multicultural/bilingual education, liberal arts, child/human development, Spanish or a related field.. Other: Candidates must also have knowledge and extensive experience with the Latino, immigrant community, demonstrated by knowledge of the traditions, values, and customs of the community being served. Must speak, write and read fluently in both English and Spanish languages. Candidates will be tested on their written and oral language abilities. Qualified applicants must possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Knowledge of theories of early childhood learning and development and their implications for library service. Knowledge of early literacy skills and the application to library service to children, parents, and early care and education professionals. Ability to incorporate principles of early childhood development into program content for adults. Knowledge and experience with current and retrospective childrens literature and the ability to identify literature appropriate for children of different ages. Knowledge of techniques for effective library programming for young children of different ages and the ability to exercise them. Knowledge of effective training techniques for adults and ability to exercise them. What made them successful? 10. Briefly explain your understanding of early literacy development and its importance to kindergarten readiness.
VETERANS PREFERENCE:

Veterans preference cannot be honored for this recruitment without it. Veterans who qualify will be granted five points preference upon successful completion of all phases of the recruitment process. Disabled veterans who qualify will be granted 10 points. Please note that Veterans preference is not applicable for executive, non-civil service positions.
