SCHEDULES

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

Note first that there is no relationship between a strict schedule and good grades. If you have the tendency to procrastinate, use one. Everyone has the same amount of time available to them. We cannot control time, but we can learn to use it more efficiently and effectively by planning carefully. A schedule can help remind you of your university commitments and prevent careless oversights; It helps determine how much time should be allocated to study.

TIME MANAGEMENT

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

Time management is important to students because the work associated with the full time study can be very demanding and time consuming. It is very easy to get behind and then it is difficult to catch up the lectures, readings, and tutorials continually provide more information, whilst you are still dealing with information from earlier in semester.

Weekly planner Guidelines

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

The shorter gaps between lectures can be for eating, reading, using the computer labs, or getting books from the library for the next assignment. Longer gaps or evenings can be used for reading, going over notes, studying, taking notes from references, writing assignments, Western Mythology readings, Study Skills preparation, etc. Estimate how long something will take by applying the sanity zone formula. If you think a writing task will take an hour, allow an hour and a half (that is, half as long again). Leave some gaps for flex time: time that you can use for study if something unexpected happens or for rest if you are up-to-date. Do not fill your weekly planner. Make sure it includes rest and recreation time.

1- NOUREDDINES CASE Noureddine is a 1st term student. He loves being at university. Knitra for him is a new city, his own place, new friends, and a wonderful social life. THINKING CRITICALLY 1

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

He has 10 courses to attend to this term. He has a quite extensive reading list to see to this term (about 300 pages every week). In addition to in-class short quizzes, he has two tests to prepare for : a mid term and an end of term. He never seems to be able to keep up with his reading or to find time for study. Though he seems to enjoy these, he missed several of his writing and grammar classes.

THINKING CRITICALLY 1

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

Another of his problems is his part-time job. His job as a waiter in a local caf place gives him the feeling that it is eating up on his study time. He works there for 15 hours every week (3 hours a day). He cant quit or cut back on hours because he needs the money he earns there.

THINKING CRITICALLY 1

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

His social commitments are another of his problems. Whenever he tries to start studying / reviewing, somebody knocks at his door. He has a hard time saying no and ends up procrastinating on his work evry time. When he was back home, he never had trouble with his studies. He knows that he had to do things differently but he just cant find the time to get everything done.

Academic Year :2012-2013 Department :English Language and Literature Filire :English Studies Semester : SEM 1 MOD 1 Course : MTU

Follow the schedule you created for 1 week and then evaluate yourself by asking the following questions: Did you find that you accomplished more work? What adjustments would you make to your schedule? Have you left enough flexibility in your schedule for emergencies? Are you studying during your most alert time?
