SCOPE

This standard practice covers the general requirements for preparation of piping

drawings.

LINES AND LETTERS

2.1

Lines Types, purposes and thickness of drafting lines used in piping drawings shall be as specified in the Table 1.

2.2

Letters

2.2.1 Type of Letters Arabic digits and alphabetical letters shall be inclined 75 backwards and their style shall be of 2:1 proportion as shown below. These requirement need not be followed if letters and digits are written by using stencil plates.

2.2.2 Size of Letters (1) The size of letters in title block shall be as shown below. Example :

Titles in Drawing (Out of Title Block) Height of letters of the equipment name, equipment number, and detail indications in the drawing shall have 4 mm as shown below. Example :

Height of letters of explanations and notes given in the drawing shall have 3.2 mm as shown below.

3.

DIMENSIONS

Dimensions in piping drawings shall be given by an integer counting fractions of 0.5 and over as a unit and cut away the rest with the unit of "millimeters (mm)". However, indication of "mm" may be omitted. The dimension lines and extension

lines shall have a thickness of lines conforming to Table 1 above-mentioned.

3.1

Dimensions of Plan Drawing (1) (2) Duplicated indications of the dimensions shall be minimized as possible. As a principle, the figures indicating dimensions shall be laid in parallel as close to the dimension lines and shall not intercross with these lines. Fig. 1 Examples of Dimensional Indication

Where the space between dimension lines each other is too narrow, the figures shall be indicated staggered for easy understanding as shown (1) in Fig. 4.

Where it is impossible to indicate the figures on the dimension lines, the indication shall be made by using arrow line, as shown (2) in Fig. 4.

Where the dimension lines are to be given in a double row, detailed dimensions shall be indicated inside (see (3) in Fig.4).

The dimension of gasket thickness as required shall be indicated as shown in Fig. 2.

The thickness of orifice plate, spectacle blinds, etc. shall be indicated for their dimensions including the gasket thickness on both sides as shown in Fig. 3.

Where the indication for the arrows of dimension line is difficult into the too narrow space, "" Marks may be used instead of the arrows. (See (4) in Fig. 4)

3.2

Piping Elevations Indication of piping elevations shall be made by EL _____________ (elevation of centerline of pipe), El ___________ BOP (elevation of bottom of pipe) or El ________________ TOP (elevation of top of pipe), as shown in Fig. 5.

3.3

Piping Inclination Indication for inclination of piping in isometric drawings shall be made by fine parallel lines drawn on the space composed by the lines of coordinate axis and piping lines as shown in Fig. 6.

3.4

Datum Point for Dimentions of Piping Components Example shown in Table 2 are the indication of plan drafting, the datum points for piping components dimensions shall be as same as both elevation and isometric drawing.

Note : (1) Datum point for dimensions of miscellaneous piping components (strainers, etc.) and instrument (control valve, etc.) to be installed in the piping systems shall be referred to valve's indication method.

Piping supports in plan drawing shall be indicated for their locations as per the centerlines.

4.

SUPPLEMENTAL ITEMS FOR INDICATION ON PIPING DRAWINGS

4.1

North Mark (1) For plan drawing The indication of the north mark shall be as shown below. The north mark shall be shown in the upper-left corners of drawings as a rule.

N :

indicate the true north. (The thickness of the line shall be 0.8 1.0 mm)

CN :

indicate the construction north which is decided for convenience in the design engineering and construction work. (The thickness of the line shall be 0.5 0.8 mm).

For each line isometric drawing The north mark has been printed as shown in Fig.7, (A) so that the indication shall be made in addition shall be made in additional of arrow as (B) or (C).

General Note for Table 8 (1) Butt weld connection of piping components shall be indicated in each drawing as shown in Fig. 13, except welding pipe to pipe and existing pipings.

Where reducing pipe fittings such as reducers, reducing tees, and reducing o-let, etc. are indicated on plan drawing only, the sizes of the fitting shall be indicated. Type of reducers (CONC. or ECC.) shall be indicated on drawing.

Where socket weld and threaded type fittings are indicated that are impossible or unintelligible indication of face to face or diameter on a reduced scale, these indication may be made to larger scale provided that no other problem is involved.

Where reducing couplings, swaged nipples are indicated only for plan drawing, their sizes shall be indicated.

5.3

Plate flanges shall be indicated as similarly as slip - on flanges. Where the piping are indicated based on the view from the axis direction, the flanges shall not be indicated.

5.5

Note : (1) The face to face, hand wheel, stem and wrench etc. shall be indicated on scale. (2) Where a pressure balance hole is provided on gate valve, it shall be indicated on the side releasing pressure in a valve bonnet.

5.5.2 Instruments, Control Valves and Special Valves

Instrument symbols (with valve numbers), size and rating of safety relief valve, control valve and special purpose valves shall be indicated as shown in Fig.15 and 16. The instrument symbols shall be referred to section 9 in this practice.

Selection of (1) or (2) in Fig. 17 shall be taken into consideration on the situation of piping, where either of them is acceptable, Fig. 17 (1) shall be applied. Example :

5.6

Miscellaneous Piping Components Indication of miscellaneous piping components shall conform to Table 14. The Symbols of miscellaneous piping component shall be indicated on isometric, side view and detailed drawings, those in plan drawing shall not be indicated in principle.

5.8

Full Line Numbers

"Full Line Number" is defined with a number composed of the Line Size, Line Number, Line Class and Insulation Requirement, "Line Number" is defined with a number combined with the fluid symbol and sequential numbers.

5.8.1 Indication Method

5.8.2 Grouping Indication of Full Line Numbers

Full line number of grouped piping shall be indicated as uniformly as possible.

5.8.3 Full Line Numbers Using Arrow Line

Where there are no spaces to indicate the full line numbers along the line, the indication shall be made as shown in Fig. 23. Where too many number of piping are existing, the respective number shall be provided with heading for easy understanding.

Flow Direction

The flow direction shall be indicated to close the front or rear of the full line numbers as shown in Fig. 24.

Note (1) (2) PT : Abbreviation of point * mark indicates the descending toward the left. The piping elevation shall be indicated at each supporting point, corner and match line.

5.11

Piping Class Break

The piping class break shall be indicated as shown in Fig. 26.

5.13

Piping Material Symbols

(1)

Indication of piping material symbols shall conform to the following requirements. The symbols shall only be indicated where the piping components are not specified in the piping classes.

(2)

If the plural symbols are specified for the same parts in relevant piping classes, one of those symbols shall be indicated.

(3)

The symbols shall not principally be indicated on the plan drawings.

(4)

The indication methods of material symbols shall conform to Fig. 28.

PIPE SUPPORTS

Indication of pipe supports shall be as shown in Table 16, and the line thickness of pipe support in drafting shall conform to Table 1. However, the stoppers and guides in plan and isometric drawing and guides in side view drawing (axial view) shall be 0.5 mm.

The line thickness of indication for the equipment outlines shall conform to Table 1.

Equipment Nozzles

(1)

Flanged nozzles shall be indicated as shown in Table 18, regardless of the types of flange. However, the outside diameters of flanges and dimensions from flange face to equipment centerline (or datum line) shall be indicated on scale for plan and side view. The thickness of flange shall conform to para. 5.4 in this practice.

The indication of structures and buildings shall conform to Table 21. Where the line thickness are not indicated in Table 21, they shall be as per Table 1.

9.

INSTRUMENTS

The line thickness shall be as per Table 1, and the indication of valves shown in Table 22 shall conform to para. 5.5 in this practice. The indication of instruments shall principally be indicated with figures and instrument symbols. The instrument symbols shall be indicated in a 10 mm circle with the instrument numbers.

The instrument symbols shall be indicated horizontally as shown below.
