Bernard claims that he CAN show a reason, calls in Linda (p. 131 ll. 3-17) Linda causes confusion, horror and amusement among the present workers (a strange and terrifying monster of middle-agedness, p. 131, ll. 11-17) as she recognizes her former partner Tomakin, who calls her a monstrous practical joke (p. 132, l. 1) Linda claims that the Director made her pregnant, John comes in (p. 132, ll. 4-19) and calls Director father; this causes a peal of laughter among the assembled workers (p. 132, l. 20-p. 133, l. 4) the Director, who feels deeply humiliated, quickly leaves the room (p. 133, l. 5) 11 (p. 134 150) Upper-caste London waiting to see creature (p. 134, ll 1-2) director had resigned (p. 134, l 4) people dont want to see Linda ( due to appearance) (p. 134, ll 12-13) return to civilization was return to soma (for Linda) (p. 134, ll 18-19) o she clamoured for higher doses of soma to take her to holidays (p.134 ll 28-29) o doctor says that her respiratory centre will be paralysed so she stops breathing (p. 134, ll 3233) o John is concerned (p. 135, l 4), John argued with the doctor but had to give in (p. 135, ll 5-22) all are after John (p. 136, l 7) Bernard was treated not merely normally anymore (p. 136, ll 9-10) Fanny admits that Bernard is a good guy (p. 136, ll 24-25) Helmholtz is envious/ sad (p. 137, ll 3-4) behind Bernards back people shook heads because they think it will all end up in a bad way (p. 137, ll 19-24) Bernard, who finally has respect, starts to really love this world he once despised, still likes to criticize it all the time, because 1) he can, and 2) it makes him feel even more important, this starts frustrating people, pretend to like Bernard because of his connection to the savage up high in the Charing-T Tower with some weathermen and John he tries to impress John with the fact that a flying machine called the Bombay Green Rocket can travel at 1,250 kilometres an hour but this doesnt impress him at all (p. 137-138, ll 33-12)

John, infuriated by the uncomprehending Deltas, throws soma rations out the window (P. 185, ll. 29ff.) Deltas start attacking John (P. 186, ll. 5ff.) Helmholtz jumps in the crowd to help John as soon as he and Bernard arrive (P. 186, ll.8ff.) Bernard is too indecisive to help them, although he knows they could be killed (P. 186, ll. 1927) Police arrive and spray soma vapor and powerful anesthetic (P. 186, ll. 27f.; ll. 34f.; P.187, l. 1) simultaneously recorded voice asks why Deltas arent happy together (P. 187, ll. 12-24) Influenced by soma and voice, Deltas soon cry, kiss and hug each other (P. 187, ll. 25-28) Police orders Helmholtz and John to come with them (P. 188, ll. 3f.) Bernard tries to escape unobserved but is caught by police (P. 188, ll. 9-23) John expresses his dislike of the brave new world and refers to Shakespeare, Controller tells that he also red Shakespeare although it`s old and forbidden(p.190) John wants to write a new Othello Helmholtz supports his idea but Controller rejects it because it`s impossible to write a tragedy in a world of social stability(pp.190-192) John asks why there are so many ugly and identically looking people whereon Mond replies that such people are the basis of society Controller tells about experiment where only Alphas were allowed to live on the island and they finally collapsed because of civil war(pp.193-194)

Helmholtz and Bernard will be banned on the island Mond was a pure scientist but became one of the ten world Controllers 17 (p. 199207) Mustapha Mond and John continue their debate about their different opinions => they talk about god: o Mustapha Mond has God in the Safe and Ford on the Shelves (p. 199 l. 26) o men change, god doesnt (p. 200 l. 4) o one can only be independent of god while one has got youth and prosperity (p. 201 ll. 33 34) => both given in the modern world o in the modern world god manifests himself as an absence (p. 202 l. 18) => god isnt compatible with machinery, scientific medicine and universal happiness (p. 202 ll. 21 22) o Bradley: One believes in things because one has been conditioned to believe them (p. 202 l. 33 34) o Christianity without tears thats what some is (p. 205 ll. 22 23) o civilized countries: getting rid of everything unpleasant instead of learning to put up with it (p. 205 l. 37 p. 206. l. 1) religion is also abolished in the state; it is a compensation for hardships and miseries; God is not needed in a society where everyone is happy and never alone John cannot agree with Monds opinion because he believes in god compulsory Violent Passion Surrogate [V.P.S.]: whole system is flooded with adrenin once a month => the compulsory physiological equivalent of fear and rage; all the tonic effects without any inconveniences (p. 206 l. 32 p. 207 l. 5) Helmholtz and Bernard say goodbye to John John feels like poisoned by civilization and therefore wants to escape from it, tries to purify himself with mustard and warm water John chooses old lonely lighthouse between Puttenham and Elstead: accommodation too luxurious, too civilized => tries to compensate luxury with self John, the Savage Mustapha Mond Mustapha Monds study
