Changed Terminology for SAP NetWeaver 2004s BI

Old terminology ODS object Transfer/update rules Transactional ODS object Transactional InfoCube RemoteCube, SAP RemoteCube, virtual InfoCube with services Reporting Agent Administrator Workbench Monitor Reporting authorizations OLAP Engine OLAP statistics New terminology DataStore object Transformation DataStore object for direct update Real-time InfoCube VirtualProvider

Data Warehousing Workbench

Workbench Improved usability:
Split into modeling and administration aspects New InfoCube maintenance UI Display complete data flow from source to target Integrated Object Editor New navigation possibilities Changing InfoCubes without rebuilding them from scratch Information Broadcasting Administration Enhanced Monitoring

Functions no longer available

InfoPackage group tree
The functions of the InfoPackage tree are now covered fully by process chains

PSA tree
The functions of the PSA tree are now covered by functions in other trees in the Modeling functional area (such as the Manage context menu option for a DataSource).

Event collectors
Event collectors are replaced by process chains

Reporting Agent
The Reporting Agent functional area has been removed from the Data Warehousing Workbench. It has been replaced by information broadcasting.

DataStore Object
Three type of DSO

Standard Direct update Write optimized

only consists of the table of active data not need to activate them you can save and further process data quickly slightly worse performance during reporting as SIDs are generated during reporting

Data Flow in BI 7.0

1.) Create / Activate your DataSource in Source System 2.) Replicate the DataSource in the BI System. On the replication you have 2 options: a.) Create in BI as 3.X DataSource, hence you either use the old concept of transfer / update rules or you emulate your DataSource (using SAP NetWeaver 2004s features transformation and Data Transfer Process on 3.X DataSources) b.) Create in BI as SAP NetWeaver 2004s DataSource, hence you can only use the SAP NetWeaver 2004s features transformation and Data Transfer Process on the DataSources 3.) Create an InfoPackage to load the data from the source system to the entry layer of the BI system (PSA). No transfer rules needed 4.) Create one or multiple transformations to populate your eventual data targets. If you are creating multiple transformations, you need an InfoSource as intermediate step, like PSA --> transformation 1 --> InfoSource1 --> ... --> transformation n --> Data Target. This step can be compared to the design time. 5.) Create a Data Transfer Process (DTP) to schedule the update (can be compared to run time).

Data Flow in BI

Transformation
Improved performance, flexibility and usability, simplification by unifying transfer and update rules
Unification of transfer and update rules New rule type: end routine New rule type: expert routine (pure coding of transformation)

Unit Conversion
Capabilities for unit conversion during data load (and reporting)

Transformation

Data transfer process (DTP)

Data distribution within the BI system Improved performance and high scalability Separation of delta mechanism for different data targets Delta capability is controlled by DTP Enhanced filtering in dataflow

Migration
Converting old data model to new model Migrate an existing data model
start with the DataSource

When migrate the 3.x DataSource, an existing PSA for this 3.x DataSource is copied to the migrated DataSource with the previously loaded requests You can create a transformation from update/transfer rules The 3.x InfoSource is not used in the new data flow. A new type of InfoSource now exists; this is used to carry out complex transformations between two persistent objects in a multi step procedure.
