Forimmediaterelease July5th,2013 (LONDON)"Iwanttotakethisopportunitytoaddresssomethingsthathavebeensaidaboutmy backgroundrecently.FirstofallletmeacknowledgethatIshouldhavebeencleareraboutmylevelof involvementwiththeUWOMustangsandthefactthatImaintainedtwohomes,oneinLondonandone providedbymyemployerinToronto.Ideeplyregretanyconfusionthislackofclarityhascaused. Overthenextfourweeks,IwillbeworkingveryhardtomeettheresidentsofLondonWest,toshaketheir hands,talkwiththemabouttheirprioritiesandletthemgettoknowtherealmeandmyvalues. Ihavededicatedmostofmyprofessionallifetoeducatingfuturegenerationsandworkingtocreatestable longtermjobs,andthiswillcontinuetobemyfocusshouldIbefortunateenoughtobeelectedasthenext LondonWestMPP.

AsquestionsaroseaboutmyrolewiththeWesternMustangs,formerheadcoachLarryHaylor,reiterated thatmyinvolvementwiththeteamwasas"apartofagroupoflocalhighschoolcoachesthathelpedwith trainingcamps,participatedincoachingmeetings,andwenttoteamdinners."IamproudoftheworkIdid withWesternathletics.Beingacampcoachisanimportantrole,andIshouldhavebeenmorespecificwith howIusedthatterm. Similarly,IhavealwaysthoughtofmyselfasaLondoner,nomatterwheremyjobwaslocated.Icompleted mydegreerighthereinLondon.MydaughtergraduatedfromSaundersSecondarySchool.Londonismy homebaseandhasbeenforthepastfortyyears.Likemany,myformerrolerequiredmetospendpartof theworkingweekinanothercity,butIalwaysreturnedtomyhomeinLondon. WestmounthasbeenmyhomebaseformanyyearsandIamproudoftherelationshipsIhavebuiltthere. Oneofmylongtermneighbours,theSaxenafamily,reinforcedthatwehavebeen,"integralmembersofthe localcommunitywhowerealwaystheretolendahelpinghandtofriendsandneighboursonourstreet." MuchhasbeensaidaboutwhyIhavechosentorunfortheOntarioLiberalParty.ItookoutmyfirstOntario LiberalPartymembershipin1999.OneofthethingsthatdrewmeintothePartyatthattimewasits commitmenttoastrongpubliceducationsystem.IhavebeeninvolvedwiththeLiberalridingassociationto varyingdegreessincethen,servingatermonitsboardofdirectorsduringthetermofformerMPPChris Bentley. AsIpreviouslystated,Ihavealwaysbelievedinreachingacrosspartylinestoensureallvoicesareheard.It seemsnotuncommonforpeopletojoinotherpoliticalpartiestosupportafriendasevidencedbythepicture ofAliChahbarthathassurfacedthisweek.

IdidtakeastepawayfromtheOntarioLiberalsthroughout2012overimplementationofBill115becauseI feltstronglythatcollectivebargainingrightsneededtobeprotected.Bill115hasnowbeenrepealedand PremierKathleenWynneandhernewgovernmenthaveresetthecourseforlabourrelationsinthisprovince. Itisherstyle,sincerityandvisionforOntariothathavedrawnmebackintotheOntarioLiberalfold. Myfriendshipsandcollaborationsinbothworkandlifehavecrossedallpoliticalboundaries.Becauseof this,Ihavehelpedandsupportedfriendsinotherpartiesbecause,forme,friendshipandcommunitywill alwayscomebeforepartisanpoliticking. AttheendofthedaythemostimportantthingIcandoistoletLondonWestvotersgettoknowme,whatI standforandhowIwillbeastrongvoiceforLondonfamilies. Londonersexpecttheirelectedrepresentativestoworktogether,notthrowpersonalattacksateachother.
