Re: Morgane Breteche-Lo

I first met Morgane Breteche-Lo at auditions shortly after I arrived in Kuching to direct the musical "Oliver!" for the Lodge Group of Schools (2 200 students) in April 2012. She arrived well prepared for her audition to try out for the part of Nancy, and immediately appealed as someone who stood out with great stage presence and creativity. She was subsequently chosen to play the role: Throughout rehearsals Morgane worked very hard in trying to successfully interpret what is quite a difficult role (especially for one so young), with it's setting in Victorian London, along with the wide range of emotions required. I found she was quick to learn and take direction, was able to take the initiative in working through new ideas and suggestions, and, along with her extensive knowledge and love of dance, work them into the role creatively and effectively. Often, when not involved in what was happening during a rehearsal, she made good use of the time by individually trying to perfect some new move or interpretation we had agreed upon. Her resulting performance can only be described as excellent.

Morgane took an interest in all aspects of the show. lt quickly became obvious she was highly respected by her peers, and that she enjoyed their support. ln return she was prepared to assist other cast members with their parts, often spending time with those who were having difficulty, especially with movement and dance, where again her creativity was evident. Approximately a fortnight before "Olivef'went on stage, the school decided to promote the show to its students at the school assemblies. At the Lodge lnternational School, which Morgane was attending, she took the initiative and got those members of the cast together who also attended the lnternational School and successfully choreographed, taught and presented a dance relating to the show, especially for the lnternational School's assembly. lt was outstanding! Subsequently, at the following rehearsal Morgane taught the whole cast this dance and we were able to integrate it into our production finale.

I found Morgane to be polite and respectful, hardworking, creative, and keen to get it right. Her outgoing nature made her a joy to work with. I have been involved with theatre for nearly 50 years and was also a schoolteacher for over 30 years and involved with many school productions. ln that time I have rarely seen anyone with as much natural talent and ability as Morgane.
With her interest in the performing arts along with her willingness to learn and work hard, I believe she has the talent and ability to be successful in her chosen career, and lwish her every success.
