GUIDELINES FOR ON-THE-JOB TRAINING


On-the-job training (OJT) is an integral part of the 24 months MBA programme of SOM, KIIT University. The period for the training is two months, tentatively from May 1st to 30th of June, 2013. Students are not allowed to change the organization of training assigned to him/ her without prior written permission of the Dean/ OJT Coordinator. In case such a thing happens the OJT project will be considered invalid. 1. Objectives of the OJT: 1.1. To provide an extensive exposure to the student on hands-on experience in a corporate environment or research activity. 1.2. To ensure that the corporate gets adequate return from the students in terms of the money and time it spends on them during the training so that there is a mutual return of experience and learning. 1.3. To provide a platform for the corporate to test the reliability, quality and performance of the students and make a match for final job offer later if they so deem fit. 2. Supervision: During the training the student will be under the supervision of a person in the organization who will act as his/her corporate guide. He/she will provide guidelines on how the student should work during the stay with the organization. In addition, each student will be guided by a faculty of KSOM. The student will be required to report to the faculty guide immediately after joining the company for the project (Annexure no.-01) and every fortnight in a prescribed format (Annexure no.-02). The student is required to meet the faculty guide before departing for the OJT and take necessary instructions from him/her. 2.1. The faculty guide will consult the corporate guide from time to time for obtaining information on the progress of the Project work of the student. 3. Conduct/Discipline: The students are required to abide by the rules of the organization where they are undergoing their training. 3.1. The Corporate organization will be taking a strong view of the punctuality and behaviour of the student during the training and therefore the student is required to be on his/her best behaviour and inculcate the good norms of the organization. 3.2. In case a student has to take leave, he/she has to take necessary permission from the organization and the faculty guide before he/she proceeds on leave. 3.3. In case the student is to take up project based work at the instance of the company he/she should conduct it to his/her best capabilities under the guidance of the faculty/corporate guide.

3.4. Student should not try to copy or use information in such a way that will project false and baseless conclusion for the company. All students are required to maintain strict confidentiality of any information they come across in the organizations in course of their training. The student involved in any malpractice shall be duly penalized. 4. Project Report: All the students have to prepare and submit a written project at the end of the training. This is not necessarily being a statistical or analytical report; it could be learning and experience sharing too. The project report will have to be certified by the organization. Detailed guidelines for writing Project report shall be given at the time of Orientation for the OJT. However, the report shall include the following: Certificate from the organization Certificate by the candidate Acknowledgement Executive summary Contents Introduction Background of the Project Project Objectives Projects Design & Methodology Action Plan, Limitations of the Project Project findings & Analysis Conclusions and Recommendations Bibliography Annexure would include financial data, Questionnaire etc. 4.1. Last Date of Submission of the project report: All the students will be required to submit a draft report on OJT at the time of registration for the second year. This will be followed by evaluation of the final written report by the faculty guide and presentation before a panel of two faculty members. Students will be given 10(ten) days time to incorporate the recommendations/ suggestions given during the evaluation and/ or presentation. Accordingly, the final reports will be due on the 10th day from the date of last presentation. 5. The Project evaluation criteria: 5.1. Evaluation by the Corporate Guide: The project guide will just confirm whether the project work done by the student was satisfactory or not which will act as a threshold for evaluation. The score by the corporate guide would be used for qualifying requirement and not for grading purpose. 5.2. Evaluation by the Faculty Guide: 100% A. Fortnightly Reports : 15% a. Three fortnightly reports : 5% each

B. Final Report : 50% a. Objective : 5% b. Review of the Literature / text : 10% c. Methodology : 10% d. Survey / Data gathering & Analysis : 10% e. Logical sequence of organizing the report : 10% f. Finding & Conclusion : 5% C. Presentation : 35% a. Logical flow of presentation : 10% b. Oral Communication : 10% c. Self Confidence : 5% d. Answer to questions : 10% 5.3. Composite Evaluation The final gradation of the project will be the weighted average of the evaluation done by the corporate guide and the in-house faculty guide. The above mentioned components will be equally weighted. The final grade will be calculated in absolute terms as per the given format: Grade Grade Point Marks Secured O 10 90-100 E 9 80-89 A 8 70-79 B 7 60-69 C 6 50-59 D 5 40-49 F 2 Below 40

Students scoring below Grade-C has to repeat their summer project to be eligible for their MBA Degree.

Explain the progress made till date regarding the Project work. While doing this project I am able to know about production system of milk in dairy firm. Here I came to know about the supply chain of milk production and another product and also came to know about the distribution patter of sudha product. I also came to know about relation of customer, retailer from the company through the survey. Through the survey I came to know in market which kind of milk is in demand, whats customer need, whatss retailer needs and demand. Which milk is in demand ,what is defect in the product and also the profit margin.
