Chapter 1: Meets piggy who is fat, short and smart.

. the boys plane was shot down over the ocean they find a conch shell and Piggy suggest that they use it to call the others Boys start to hear it and come toward the sound a group of choir boys came led by a boy named Jack They decide to have a meeting and in that meeting to choose a leader Ralph won the voting and decided to give Jack the leadership of the choir Ralph, Jack and Simon explore the island ignoring Piggys request to come along the boys stumble abound to a mountain which they climb to find that this is an island they find pigs, but when jack goes to kill it, he hesitates Ralph: 12 years old, fair hair, leader of the group stuck on the island. Piggy: wears glasses, lives with aunt, parents died, naive, has asthma Jack: leads the choir. simon: shy, quiet Setting: the island, during war The shell: power, money, rank Chapter 2: To call the children back, ralph blows the conch shell once again he tells the group there are no children and they are alone jack reminds ralph of the pig they found ralph group is named the hunters ralph declares a rule that the person holding the conch can speak and no one else Piggy states that no one knows how long they will be stuck here One of the young children states that he saw a beastie which all begin to fear ralph proposes that they make a fire as a signal the boys find dead wood and use Piggys lens to focus the light to create fire the boys set the surrounding area on fire with their carelessness Piggy tells the group how one of the littlun has gone missing Setting: the island Chapter 3: Conflict between ralph and jack grew through the novel the conflict erupts into verbal argument for the first time The conflict was between was building hut more important or getting food jack was drawn to the exhilaration of hunting by his blood lust and desire for power. Jack has no real interest in the welfare of the group most boys are interested in play more than building huts and working. Simon helps ralph create the huts simon was indicated to helping othres and did not interfear with Jacks and Ralphs fight Simon seems to have a basic goodness and kindness that comes from within him. Chapter 4: Ralph and Piggy spot a ship at a far distance they see that the fire has gone out and the ship turns away and leaves Ralph and Jack get into a fight They fight over what is important, the food or their rescue after dinner ralph calls another meeting Jack apologizes over that he could not keep the fire going. Piggy starts feeling that jack hates him Chapter 5: The boys begin to fear the beast at night because of the littluns claiming they saw a beast. the beast served as the most important symbol between the littleuns and the biguns the beast represented violence, power, terror, and savagery Simon later notices that the beast is not on the island but outside the island in the ocean Jack takes advantage of this by making all the boys fearful of the ocean and taking the power from ralph to him because his group was the group that could protect them Chapter 6: Ralph loses power from his hands into Jacks jack asks ralph in front of the boys if he was scared of the beast which causes ralph to act irrationally Though the boys have isolated themselves on the island, the place they come from, England is mostly destroyed by the atom bomb which they escaped from. A enemy gunmen was responsible for their crash war represents the savage outbursts of civilization Chapter 7: The boar hunt was the game that the boys played at the beginning Ralph didn't want hunting to be more important but when he lost his power and joined the others into the game, he was unable to avoid the excitement of hunting in the game a boy name robert almost gets killed because of the exitement Jack suggests that killing a littlun in place of a ping, the group laughs only jack and his friend roger could carry this type of plan out Ralph decides to go hunting at night to prove that samneric did not see the beast Chapter 8: the boys thought that the parachutist was a monster the beast assumes a primal religious importance in the boys lives Simon confronts the lord of the flies- the sows head impaled on a stake Simon is told by the sows head how he is going to die simon faints when the sows head speaks Simon is kindhearted and firmly on the side of order and civilization

Jack and roger connect with the wilderness on violence and primal lust Chapter 9: Brutally simon is murdered by the group of salvages. the last vestige of civilized order is stripped away Ralph and Piggy decide that they join Jacks group as well. The storm washes simons and the parachutists body away The beast gave jacks tribe a common enemy and a common system of belief, also a reason for the group to obey jack Simons vision teaches him that the beast lies within all human beings. Simon died before he was able to speak to the boys simons death exemplifies the power of evil within the human soul Chapter 10: Jack misuses his powers the boys are punished for no apparent reason jack ties up and beats a boy named wilfred he warns his group against ralph and his small group jack and his 2 hunters decide to raid ralphs camp and obtain more fire ralphs camp members are woken by howling and shrieking and are suddenly attacked by jacks hunters the hunters badly beat ralph and his companions piggy knew the reason of their attack, it was his glasses, power to make fire Chapter 11: Ralph decided that he and his followers go to Jack and see reason Ralph is greeted with rocks Jack shows up from the jungle commanding ralph to leave ralph demands that jack return piggys glasses Jack attacks ralph and ralph struggles to make jack understand the importance of the signal fire to any hope the boys might have of ever being rescued Jack orders his hunters to capture samneric they torture samneric roger shoves a massive rock down the mountainside which ralph dodges but kills Piggy by throwing him off the mountainside Chapter 12: Ralph remains hidden in the jungle thinking about simon\s and Piggys death When he reaches Jacks camp, he sees samneric guarding it he asks them to join him but they give him food and refuse the twins were once again tortured to tell where ralph was hidden ralph hides in a thicket where he sleeps running away from Jacks hunters he stumbles onto the beach where he finds the naval officer standing over him. Ralph is overwhelmed that he is rescued escaping violent death.
