With this position we begin to use the 3rd finger instead of the lidIe finger, which is now too short. The thumb shifts to the left side of the neck. The fingers are no longer at a right angle to the string, but are thrust forward, forming an acute angle to it. The 2nd finger is placed absolutely vertically, with the middle of the fingertip on the string. This means that the tip of the 1st finger is turned slightly to the side and that the 3rd finger is slightly extended.
Der 1.Finger d.I.H. wird aufgesetzt und der 2.oder 3.Finger derselben Hand zupft leicht die Saiten an./The 1st finger I.h. is placed on the string, and the str;ng;s plucked by the 2nd or 3rd f;ngerl.h.

position
The thumb must now lie on the outer edge of the fingerboard (onIy when the seventh position is needed for a short time). When playing in seventh position the fingers must be gready stretched. This is done at the expense of vibrato and pressure. To compensa te, the -thumb
is placed a half-step below
-the
index
finger.
This
position of the hand and fingers corresponds to that of the thumb position, which begins with the next half-step (G). The thumb must be at a right angle to the string, and the joint must not be bent.
