COMPARISON BETWEEN REVERSE AIR BAG HOUSE (RABH) VS PULSE JET BAG HOUSE (PJBH) FOR RAW MILL

/ KILN OFF GAS A. GENERAL Measuring Parameters 1 Air to Cloth Ratio(ACR) or Filtering velocity RABH i) ~ 0.5 m3/m2 Min for Non PTFE membrane media ii) ~ 0.7 m3/m2 Min for PTFE Membrane media i) ~ 50 mg/Nm3 for Non PTFE membrane media ii) ~ 25 mg/Nm3 for PTFE membrane media. Drops to 40 45oC on membrane surface due to its very low interstitial (can) velocity and approaches Acid Dew point during compound operation, thus affecting steel parts. Very high due to low ACR, approx. TWICE than PJBH. a) Very High, generally bag Ht. is 10.5 m approx. b) Overall ht incl. Hopper and Reverse Air Plenum etc. extends up to 2530 m. Very High, generally 40% more than PJBH PJBH ~ 1.0 m3/m2 Min for Non Woven GF e PTFE membrane REMARKS Advantage PJBH i) Less Filtration Area ii) Less Foot Print Area Even less than 10 mg/Nm3 and up to 3 to 5 mg/Nm3 can be achieved. Advantage PJBH

Outlet SPM Emission level

3.

OFF GAS Temp. on Membrane Surface

Approx. 20oC temp drop expected on membrane surface. Hence, at least above Acid Dew point by 20 35oC during compound operation. No erosion effect on steel parts expected. Less Foot Print Area

Advantage PJBH

4.

5.

Cross Sectional Area Or Foot Point Area Effective Ht. of Unit

Advantage PJBH

a) Less, generally bag ht is 6.5 to 8.0 M b) Overall ht is limited to 20 m

6.

Weight of Unit

Comparatively less

7.

Power Consumption

8.

Pulsing or Cleaning pressure

Reverse Air Fan Power Consumption is more compared to Compressed Air Pulsing power requirement. ~ 300 mm WC i.e., 300 kgf/m2. Very low pulsing effect for long duration ON-LINE Maintenance possible but cumbersome. Purge Air Fan is required. Highest. Requires More Thermal Insulation area

Compressor power less than RA Fan Power Consumption

Advantage PJBH

9.

Maintenance

~ 900 to 1200 mm WC i.e., 900-1200 kgf/m2. Very effective pulsing effect for short duration ON-LINE Maintenance is user friendly.

Advantage PJBH As Bag Membrane life is increased. Advantage PJBH

Conclusion: On Consideration of above, if in pertinent that PJBH is well ahead with modern technology and user friendly maintenance including CAPEX and OPEX benefit compared to RABH. RABH is presently out of use in most of the countries, where outlet particulate emission demands for less than 10 mg/Nm3 norms, especially in European and American Countries. It is difficult even to achieve 25 mg/Nm3, outlet emission norms, from RABH with PTFE membrane bags on continuous basis, because of dew point excursion with high pressure drop (above 200 mm WC)
