Normatividad y Sistemas de Gestin

En el ao 2008 entraron en vigencia varias normas importantes para el sector, en el mbito de Salud e Higiene Ocupacional, en relacin a temas ambientales, las principales normas fueron el Reglamento Ambiental para las actividades de exploracin Minera, , Reglamento y Norma que regula el proceso de Participacin Ciudadana en el Subsector Minero y disposiciones para el aprovechamiento de residuos de los proyectos de Cierre o Remediacin Ambiental a cargo de la empresa del Estado Activos Mineros. Continuando con la estrategia corporativa de producir eficientemente en armona con el medio ambiente, fortaleciendo la seguridad y el bienestar de los trabajadores, as como de las comunidades vecinas y, manteniendo buenas relaciones con clientes y proveedores, en enero de 2008 la Direccin del SSOMAC de la empresa revis la Poltica de Seguridad, Salud Ocupacional, Medio Ambiente y Calidad (SSOMAC) donde se establecieron objetivos globales y compromisos para mejorar el desempeo, encontrando que dicha Poltica se mantena relevante y apropiada a la organizacin. En mayo de 2008, la institucin certificadora Bureau Veritas realiz la auditoria de Seguimiento al Sistema de Gestin Medioambiental y de Seguridad, Salud Ocupacional en las Unidades Mineras de Yauli, Cerro de Pasco y Animn, de acuerdo a las exigencias de la Norma ISO 14001:2004 para sistemas de Gestin Ambiental, y especificaciones OHSAS 18001:1999 para Gestin de Seguridad y Salud Ocupacional.

In the year 2008, various important regulations in Health and Occupational Hygiene were introduced in the mining sector. In connection with environmental matters, the main regulations were, Environmental Regulations for mining exploration, Regulations regarding the participation of the community in the mining sub sector, and provisions related to the use of waste from the Closure or Environmental remediation to be carried out by the governmental company Activos Mineros .

Continuing with the corporate strategy of efficient production in harmony with the environment, strengthening the safety and comfort of the workers,as well as those of the nearby communities and, keeping good relations with clients and providers; in January 2008, the Control Office of SSOMAC of the Company, reviewed the Safety, Health, Environment and Quality (SSOMAC) policies, establishing global objectives and commitments to improve performance and, finding that the policies were relevant and accurate within the organization.

In May 2008, the certifying institution, Bureau Veritas, performed an audit to follow up the Management System of Environment, Safety and Health in the Yauli, Cerro de Pasco and Animn mining units, based on the mandatory provisions of the Rule ISO 14001: 2004 applicable to Environmental Management systems, and specifications OHSAS 18001: 1999 applicable to Safety and Health Management.

Seguridad El Reglamento de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo establece las normas mnimas para la prevencin de los riesgos laborales, e indica que debern estar contenidas en un Sistema de Gestin de Seguridad y Salud en el Trabajo, estableciendo la responsabilidad en dicha Gestin. Con la entrada en vigencia de dicho reglamento, se han conformado los comits paritarios en las unidades mineras. Con el fin de garantizar que se eliminen o minimicen los riesgos a los empleados y otras partes interesadas, se incrementaron los comits de 160 a 269, los que reflejan la estructura orgnica de la empresa y tienen como funcin la identificacin continua de peligros, la evaluacin de riesgos e implementacin de los controles necesarios. Se tuvieron supervisiones regulares de OSINERGMIN comprobndose los esfuerzos de la compaa por la mejora en las condiciones de Seguridad, Salud Ocupacional y Medio Ambientales. Merece especial mencin la implementacin de los sistemas de ventilacin automatizados, especialmente en la Unidad de Yauli donde se han instalado ventiladores de 300,000 y 400,000 CFM nicos en el Per. Medio Ambiente Actualmente se redisea el SSOMAC para adecuar a la norma OHSAS 18001-2007. En cumplimiento del reglamento ambiental para exploraciones y operaciones mineras, durante el 2008 se obtuvieron las aprobaciones, por la DGAAM MEM para el inicio de los trabajos de exploracin en los Proyectos Rondoni, Rio Pallanga Marcococha, as como de operacin para la ampliacin de las Plantas Concentradoras Animn a 4200 TMSD, Paragsha a 9500TMSD y del reinicio de la explotacin minera de la Unidad de Ticlio. As mismo para el Cierre de Minas, en el ltimo trimestre de 2008 se presentaron a las autoridades los Planes de Cierre a nivel de factibilidad de las concesiones que estn en operacin. Considerando que Volcn ha establecido que es muy importante mantener las actividades de sus operaciones mineras en armona con el medio ambiente, se estn introduciendo mejoras a su Sistema de Gestin Medioambiental para hacer un mejor seguimiento de los compromisos y obligaciones adquiridos a travs de los Estudios de Impacto Ambiental, las Evaluaciones Ambientales y los Reglamentos de Cierre de Minas y Pasivos Ambientales.

Since the regulations were put into force, committees in each of the mining units were organized. With the objective of guaranteeing that risks to employees and other interested parties are eliminated or minimized, the committees were increased from 160 to 269, reflecting the organizational structure of the company and, how the indentification of dangers is functioning, risk assessment and implementation of necessary controls. There have been regular inspections of OSINERGMIN checking the companys measures for the purposes of improving Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental conditions. It merits special mention that automized systems of ventilation were implemented, especially in the Yauli unit where they have installed the only300,000 and 400,000CFM fans in Per. Environment Currently, the redesign of SSOMAC is in progress in order to adapt it according to the OHSAS 18001-2007 regulations.During 2008, In compliance with the environmental regulations for mining exploration and operations, approval was obtained from the DGAAM MEM to start the exploration works in the Rondoni, Ro Pallanga, Marcococha projects, as well as to expand the Animn concentrator plant to 4,200 DMT, Paragsha to 9,500 DMT and, the restart of the Ticlio mining unit. At the same time for Mines Closure of the operative concessions, the Mine Closure Plans at feasibility level were filed before the authorities during the last quarter of 2008.

Taking into account that Volcan has established that it is important to keep its mining activities in harmony with the environment, improvements in its Environmental Management System, measures are being introduced in order to provide a better follow up with the commitments and obligations acquired from Environmental Impact studies, the Environmental Assessments and the Mining Closure Regulations and Environmental Liabilities.
