Special to The Morning Calm Weekly
YONGSAN GARRISON – Recent changes allow
Soldiers to wear both the Korean Defense Service
Medal and to add a numerical device on their Overseas
Service Ribbon for service in Korea.
The KDSM is authorized for wear by U.S.
servicemembers who have served in the Republic of
Korea to uphold the armistice between South and North
Korea.
Now, after Soldiers have served two or more
overseas tours, Soldiers can numerically denote their
time in Korea on their OSR.
Only one award of the KDSM is authorized. For
servicemembers awarded an Overseas Service Ribbon
for Korean Service, both decorations may be worn
simultaneously with applicable numeric devices. A
numeric device may be added to the OSR for
completing a tour in Korea but only after
servicemembers complete two or more overseas tours.
For example, a Soldier who served in Korea once
and in Germany once is authorized to wear the KDSM

unsettling behavior. This is how
prevention occurs.
Prevention can also occur when
attempts at sexual assault are
reported. If a would-be rapist
makes a half-hearted attempt at
sexual assault the victim may feel
that this person is harmless and will
not do this again. But, this is simply
not true; would-be rapists start out
with subtle behaviors and work
their way up to an actual assault.
An attempted assault is the most
likely predictor that this person will
soon perpetrate this crime.
Reporting attempted assault will
prevent sexual assault. There is no

The bottom line is to be aware:
aware of unusual or inappropriate

ensure they make it home safe and
do not fall prey to sexual predators.
