E 553 / BS ECE REACTION PAPER Field Trip Plant Visit Baguio La Union Ilocos

Mt. Sto. Tomas is one of the peaks in Cordillera Mountains. There are two (2) huge radio transmission stations which called Mt. Sto. Tomas Radar Station also known as Doppler radar station. Engr. Ordinario discussed about how the radar locates the weather systems, but when the more the temperature dropped on in Baguio the storm will move to other location thats why the provinces in Visayas and Mindanao region is more prone in storm. Like what happened in last year in Compostela province in New Bataan, which typhoon Pablo attacks the said province. We went also to the Phivolcs, but we didnt get a chance to have a seminar because there are no assigned personnel. So instead of having a seminar, we just have a site tour outside the company and take pictures. In SITEL, I found out that you can get a lot of benefits when you work to them, unlike in other companies or call centers. In SITEL, each call center agents or customer representatives belongs to a team and per team has a station, where per team is a competitor from one another, meaning they compete for the services and/or sales, also they inflate their ranking where they can get a higher or good benefit. I learned more about broadcasting in International Broadcasting Bureau (IBB) where I figured out that the IBB station is a dual medium wave or shortwave broadcast facility. And from San Fernando, La Union, the location of IBB, by using 16 transmitters, the facility provides China, Vietnam, South and Southeast Asia, the Pacific Ocean and the Russian Far East. I also recognized that IBB transmits programs from two (2) sites in some languages including English, Chinese, and Vietnamese. The station converted from satellite reception of transmissions to a trans-Pacific fiber optic link with the continental United States. And the two generators weve seen in the station can be automatically or manually operated by an Engineer. I found out that there are only 20 windmills in Ilocos Norte when I thought that there are about a hundred windmills. I also found out that the first 15 windmills constructed was rated at about 25 MW and followed by the 5 turbines rated with 8 MW. Also, the Metro Manila and some other places in the Philippines get some benefits in the windmills not just in Ilocos province. These are the lessons Ive learned and reaction I have in our plant visit last week. Aside from the knowledge I got in the seminars, I also enjoyed and had fun in the trip. And Ive seen a lot of beautiful views in our Baguio La Union Ilocos tour. I have also learned more after we had our fellowship program.
