OBSEVATION STAGE

Task Nº1: The school.

Refer to the general backround of the school in a clear and brief way.
Describe:

• Physical location: Diaguitas Nº 1751 Belloto 2000.

• Organisation:

• Student population: 900 students (360 Educación Básica y 540 Enseñanza Media).

• School rules:

Task Nº2: The classroom.

Comment about:

• The atmosphere of the room: There is a very good enviroment in both grades, they
are in general very quite and interested in the class, so it´s easy to teach them. They
have a very good relationship between them and the teacher.

• The levels of engagement in the room: In general both grades are very interested in
the subject, specially in English, because they are studying gastronomy and turism,
so they will need to have a very good manage of English, for this reason they put
special atention to the class ant try to learn the most.

• Students seating: There is around 40 tables, and they are seating in couples. In 4º
grade they have joined two lines, so in the center they are 4 student seating in a
line.

• Space: The classroom are big enought for the students of each class.

• Whiteboard location: In the front of the class.

• Classroom equipment: In the classrom they don´t have any equipment, but if the
teacher need it, she can ask for it, and use any equipment of the school (computer,
notebook, data show, etc.)
Task Nº3: The teacher.

Describe the following:

• Classroom routine: The only thing that is a routine, it´s the part when the teacher
arrive to the classroom and salute the students, because all the class are different,
since the teacher prepared different thing and activities for them, so it´s always
something new.

• Motivation activities performed: Like I said before all the classes are different, the
teacher prepared different activities (reading,lsitening, speaking,etc) , and these are
made thinking of what the students like and preffer (like songs, games or
interesting issues), the teacher is always creating new thing to motivate to the
students.

• Learning activities contucted: It depend of the activities, but normally the classical
way, where the teacher explain them and help them in the process.

• Material resources used: The most used is the book of English and the photocopies
that the teacher gave them. Also radio for the listening and activities whit songs.

• Stages of the lesson: The teacher gave them an introduction of the unit, then
present the activities and help them, and before finish th class review the student´s
advance.

Task Nº4: The learners.

In this observation task, focus on the things that help to create conditions for effective
learning and on the aspects that play a part in preventing learning.

• How motivated are the learners? Why?


In my case the student are very motivated, because the way of the manner that the
teacher do the class, and also the fact that English is very important for them,
because they will have to use it every day in their future jobs.

• Are they taking part in their own learning? How?


Most of them are investigating by theirself, and specially one student of 4º grade is
very interested and enthusiatic about English, because he want to study English
pedagogy.

• Are they e xpecting the teacher to do the work for them?


No they aren´t, maybe the expect that the teacher gave them the activities and share
whit them the most, but not that the teacher work for them.

• Do they like to participated in group work? If so, how do they behave?


Yes, they like and they behave very well.

• What kinds of learning activities do the students like the most? What do like the
least?
They preffer activities with issues that they enjoy, like music,
television,technology,etc.
