Semester IX PE 901: Integrated hydrocarbon exploration and Hydrocarbon exploration management

Need for integrated exploration, data gathering and organization, geological, geophysical, geochemical and drilling data. Identification through integration of seismic and geological data, major correlatable stratigraphic levels, minor and major faults and unconformities. Preparation of structure maps at different stratigraphic levels, preparation of isochronopachs, concept, purpose, analysis, preparation of facies model for each stratigraphic units, reconstruction of tectonic framework, stratigraphic framework, basin evolution model. Seismic attribute analysis and integration with other data for identification of potential pay levels, identification of important source rich levels through geochemical data, resource prognostication. Preparation of structure maps at potential levels, identification of prospective leads, risk analysis, identification of suitable exploratory locales; planning and execution of drilling, exploratory wells, collection of all relevant data, identification of hydrocarbon bearing levels. Well testing and reservoir data collection and analysis, integration of geological, electro Log, well testing and seismic data, validation / modification of existing geological model; volumetric estimation of in-place reserves, techno-economic evaluation of the prospect, planning and execution of appraisal, well drilling, delineation of pool limits, validation / modification of in-place reserves and reserves categorization. Leadership in exploration, managing individuals, subordinates, peers and superiors. Materials management in petroleum industry, accounting, project management by network techniques, data base, organization and management. Petroleum economics, energy security policy for India. PE 903: Pipeline engineering

Fundamentals of pipeline engineering; history of pipelines and their role in oil and gas industry, pipeline industry and scenario in India, techno-commercial study of pipelines, responsibilities of pipeline engineers. Design and construction; design and operation codes for onshore and offshore pipelines, concepts of sub-sea pipelines, study of pipeline route, construction and commissioning procedures, project management techniques, operation and maintenance of pipelines, quality assurance practices. Materials used for linepipe and fittings; manufacturing process of linepipe, metallurgical and physical properties of linepipe and fittings, welding processes and procedures, non-destructive inspection, welding qualification procedures, mechanical joining of non-metallic, composite and flexible line pipe.
