Minister Rashid M. Hughes


Minister Rashid Hughes is a native of Richmond, Virginia. He is a graduate of Howard Universitys Department of Music where he obtained his Bachelors Degree in Music Business. While at Howard, he served as the lead trumpet player for the Howard University Jazz Ensemble and he traveled with the Jazz Department to Japan on two occasions. Minister Hughes was also named a 2009-2010 Whos Who Recipient. In addition, he is a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Incorporated. Upon graduation from Howard, Minister Hughes furthered his education by joining the University of the District of Columbias Music Department. Thereafter, he was provided the opportunity to travel with the Universitys Education Department to Bangkok Thailand. While in Thailand, Minister Hughes participated in the Bangkok Sister City Youth Program; a program composed of students from around the world who addressed sustainable living practices, research studies, and pioneering techniques initiated by the King of Thailand. After a year at The University of the District of Columbia, Minister Hughes returned to Howard University in 2011, enrolling as a full time student at the Howard University School of Divinity, where he anticipates graduating during the 2013-2014 academic year. During this same year, Minister Hughes served as a Deans Evans Crawford Graduate Assistant Scholarship Recipient at the Howard University Andrew Rankin Memorial Chapel. Minister Hughes serves as the 2013-2014 African Heritage Cultural Institute Sacred Music Scholarship recipient. Recently, Minister Hughes traveled to Port Au Prince Haiti along with 15 other students at Howard University to serve the Haitian community. Currently, Minister Hughes serves as the Howard University School of Divinity Howard Thurman Chapel Minister of Music and Director of the Voices of Mays Choir. In addition, Minister Hughes serves as the Minister of Music at First Baptist Church Chesterbrook as well as Associate Minister, under the Pastoral leadership of Rev. Todd Brown. While serving at First Baptist Church Chesterbrook, Minister Hughes has not only been blessed to direct the young adult choir, childrens choir, senior choir, and mens choir, however, he has been privileged to preach during Sunday morning worship services, vacation bible school, Bible study and Sunday school. Minister Hughes is blessed to share his life and ministry with his proud parents Frank and Cheryll Hughes, along with his siblings, Jawanza, Aisha, and Omari Hughes.
