Study / Concept / FEED

Xodus Subsea has a strong global track record in frontend engineering and design.

The Xodus Subsea team has been involved in numerous major projects, from conception through to final decommissioning. Which means we have the experience and resources to know exactly when and exactly how to address your technical challenges. We evaluate the concept, devise an appropriate system architecture, work out development costs and formulate a procurement strategy. Our system focus is backed up by tight collaboration with other Xodus Group disciplines, plus a suite of unique software tools developed in-house to facilitate cost estimation and design. But theres no substitute for experience, and across the division we have a cumulative experience of design, offshore construction and operational support amounting to many thousands of man-hours. This practical, operational experience feeds back into our front-end design and concept work in a seamless feedback loop.

When we take on a project, regardless of scope, we put together a suitable project team. The composition of the team is based on each clients specific requirements. We produce an organigram for every project showing team activities, responsibilities and reporting lines. We answer directly and exclusively to you. Below are just some of the areas covered by our Study/Concept/FEED specialists: Development layouts Interface with flow assurance Material selection Mechanical design to support cost estimation Concept selection workshops Operational assurance Contract strategies Decommissioning studies n

Detailed Design
Once your project has been taken through the FEED stage, its time for Detailed Design.

Where FEED sets the ideal scenario, this stage focuses on the reality and the details. Our integrated approach pays dividends even the most experienced and thorough design team cannot foresee all the complexities or eventualities that may be encountered at operational level. Which is why our designers regularly receive and analyze feedback from our SURF product delivery and operations specialists.

optimized configuration of all types of riser system Design of mid-water arches, bend stiffeners, stress joints, hang-off systems, riser/vessel interfaces and I/J tubes Installation analysis and procedural support (covering rigid and flexible risers, flowlines and jumpers) Spool/jumper stress analysis Detailed Upheaval Buckling (UHB) analysis of flexible and rigid pipelines using XTENSOR1, our in-house tool Design and detailed specification of subsea control packages Mechanical design of rigid pipeline systems, including in-place analysis Structural design, including gravity-based and piled structures, detailed manifold design, SSIVs and MWAs Verification of third-party designs Specialist geotechnical and geophysical support Deepwater Decommissioning studies n

Our emphasis on teamwork means the knowledge of your requirements that was built up during the FEED phase continues to accumulate as the same team focuses on your Detailed Design requirements. Our priorities are simple: to make sure your assets are properly manufactured, safely installed, and last for their forecast lifetimes. Achieving fitness for purpose takes a lot of in-depth work, producing functional system specifications, engineering drawings and carrying out regular design reviews.

Detailed Design is about refining concept selection and preliminary FEED work in parallel with procurement, construction and delivery, covering the installation and as-built phases right through to ongoing operations. It includes: Following flow assurance, selection of materials, including coatings, design of cathodic protection systems and provision of detailed procurement specifications Detailed design analysis (static, extreme, interference, global fatigue) and

Specialist Operational Support

The Xodus Specialist Operational Support (SOS) service builds on our extensive subsea and process knowledge and competencies, focusing on fitness for purpose, responsiveness and forward planning.

Planned and unplanned intervention We comply with the full-scope definition of the procedures covering all subsea maintenance and repair tasks. As part of the service, we also project manage the procurement and delivery of new equipment and spares. Our depth of construction and IMR experience means we can: Cover diving and remote intervention tasks Devise emergency response maintenance and repair procedures Troubleshoot infield operational issues. Materials-driven integrity management Successful installation and operation of subsea assets through their full design lifecycle depends on the integrity of the

Xodus Software
Over years of working in a highly specialised discipline, weve developed a range of software tools to support our activities.
We also make a number of these tools available to our clients, bringing you the benefits associated with our enhanced analytical and monitoring functions. XPLORE enables operators to model different scenarios based on an existing flow regime. The powerful modelling suite allows us to use integrity management data to analyze lifecycle expectancies. This capability is currently unique in the industry. XRISK is a high-level risk-based assessment tool used to undertake and manage a complete range of technical workshops. XTENSOR is used to assess the risk of pipeline upheaval buckling at the concept level, during the detailed design stage, and in analyzing operational feedback. It is currently unique in the marketplace. XSMaRT is used for subsea manifold design, costing and auditing. The package was developed specifically to optimize manifold interfaces by focusing on standardization and design efficiencies. A brand-new product, XSMaRT is destined to play an important role as new standards are rolled out across the industry, and also acts as an online document management system.

Broadly, the service covers specialist pigging support, planned and unplanned intervention, materials-driven integrity management and subsea controls. SOS extends far beyond merely reacting to emergencies. By applying a complete systems management approach, we provide preventative, proactive asset management throughout the lifecycle of a field. And we use the skill set we have developed while supporting clients in the oil and gas industry to support clients in the low carbon sector. The SOS team call upon the full range of technical competencies that make Xodus Group such a uniquely integrated supplier. In addition to the interdisciplinary crossover within Xodus Subsea itself, our support service can draw upon the skills of our Process & Facilities team as well as the reliability engineering support provided by our Technical Safety & Risk team. Specialist pigging support Through our strategic partnership with Pipelines 2 Data (P2D) Ltd, we focus on increased uptime and reliability at all stages of the pipeline lifecycle using state-of-theart pig management software, intelligent pipeline cleaning and active management of pigging and chemical regimes. We also provide full support for asset inspection, maintenance and repair.

individual elements and components involved. Our advanced analysis service covers every aspect of your subsea assets, providing the bedrock of a full-scope integrity management strategy. We bring a panoply of instruments and procedures to bear, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Engineering Criticality Assessment (ECA) and Fitness for Service (FFS). The results of our analysis are used at every stage of a subsea project, from selection of materials to installation (especially in hostile high-pressure, high-temperature or sour conditions); from routine inspections to assessment of remaining asset life and eventual retirement. Our competencies are supported by a range of software developed by our inhouse specialists. Many of our applications are unique in the industry, pioneering new methods of integrating data from multiple sources and using advanced models to optimize operational systems. Subsea controls Our expert electrical and hydraulics engineers bring a blend of operational and vendor experience. The subsea controls team delivers a full range of support, from specifying new equipment to troubleshooting existing systems n

Description Rapid response, Fitness For Service (FFS) assessment of a water injection (WI) valve skid. An inspection commissioned by our client during a water injection pipeline replacement project revealed metal losses in all sections of piping on the WI valve skid. The operator intended to utilize the valve skid for another 10 years. Xodus was engaged at short notice to assess whether the valve would be safe to operate with the presence of the detected wall losses and if so for how long. Our integrity expert responded initially within 24 hours to verify the quality of the non-destructive testing (NDT) to allow the vessel and inspection personnel to return to shore. Subsequently, the FFS analysis carried out to DNV RP-F101 confirmed the safe operating parameters and remaining life of the valve skid. Future NDT inspections to ascertain a more realistic corrosion rate were recommended to the client as this may lead to further life extension or alternatively an earlier retirement date of the valve.

Scope Assessment of water injection valve skid NDT results FFS assessment. Value added Rapid FFS analysis carried out Quality of assessment commended by the client Future NDT inspections recommended n
