An Emerging Market for Social Investment in Vietnam


Hanoi, 22-23 August, 2013

Background
While pioneering social organizations with the typical characteristics of social enterprises have been in existence since the 1990s, the social entrepreneurship concept was only introduced and promoted officially to the general public in Vietnam since 2009. Over the last few years, there has been robust development in the social enterprise ecosystem in Vietnam. Vietnameses social enterprise map and directory was launched online since 2011. There have been nearly 200 self-identified social enterprises; while there exist 165,000 organizations which have the potential to become social enterprises. Total funding in cash invested in social enterprises in Vietnam in 2012 is estimated at around US$2million. The International Investment Forum 2013 will bring together key stakeholders from all critical parts of a society (investors, international aid agencies, policy-makers, enterprising innovators) under one platform, with one mission: bridging the gap between social investors and deserving social players for greater social and environmental impact in Vietnam. It is a convergence of global knowledge, investment and dialogue geared towards building a more inclusive ecosystem for high impact, pro-poor businesses. It will bring several social enterprises to the forefront, and connect them to enablers, mentors and crucial networks. Theme: VIETNAM AN EMERGING MARKET FOR SOCIAL INVESTMENT Objective To help social investors to understand the social entrepreneurship ecosystem in Vietnam and available investment opportunities To connect social enterprises in Vietnam to enablers, mentors, investors, and crucial networks and facilitate deals making Forum Topics Social enterprise landscape in Vietnam: Capabilities, Potentials, and Readiness for Social Investment? Social investment landscape in Vietnam: Ecosystem and Opportunities for Social Investment? Removing the red tape: What can be done to improve the enabling environment for impact investing in Vietnam? Getting social enterprises ready for social investment Target Clients Around 100 agencies or organizations, who have relevant interests / operations in line with the theme of forum will be approached and invited, including impact investors, donors, corporations with active CSR programmers, foundations, networks, INGOs, social enterprises, Intermediaries, Universities/Academies, central and provincial government agencies.
