OF GANDHIDHAM
Trip Report - Modvadar, Kutch
Date : 14th July,2013
Modvadar is small village in Gandhidham Taluka of District Kutch. The village offers two water bodies suitable for birding. First is a small seasonal river, which runs dry ,except good monsoon, and therefore provides large patch of stagnant water. Short distance between the banks offer good visuals of birds on the other bank. Another water body is village pond, which has become larger due to excavation around it. When we visited the village, at the stand-still river, we spotted scattered common resident birds like Spot Billed duck , Darter, Little Black Cormorant, River Tern etc. Thereafter we visited the village pond, where we found ,like many other villages of Kutch, large numbers of peacocks and pea fowls. Due to their mating season peacocks could be seen displaying their full long train. The pond offered some good landscape, however due to monsoon clouds covering the entire sky without much detail, rendered landscape photography uneventful. However, one concerning issue we observed that the water bodies were being polluted by the litter caused by human activity. More particularly with plastics waste, this would leave long stamp of harm on the nature.
