IMPORTANCE OF ENGLSH:

In todays global world, the importance of English cannot be denied and ignored since English is the most common language spoken everywhere. With the help of developing technology, English has been playing a major role in many sectors including medicine, engineering, and education, which, in my opinion, is the most important arena where English is needed. Particularly, as a developing country, Turkey needs to make use of this world-wide spoken language in order to prove its international power. This can merely be based on the efficiency of tertiary education. Consequently, English should be the medium of instruction at universities in Turkey for the following three reasons: finding a high-quality job, communicating with the international world, and accessing scientific sources in the students major field. The first reason for why English should be the medium of instruction at universities in Turkey is that it helps students find a high quality jobs for students to find. In business life, the most important common language is obviously English. In addition to this, especially, high-quality jobs need good understanding ability and speaking in English. Therefore, companies can easily open out to other countries, and these companies generally employ graduates whose English is fluent and orderly. For example, the student who is graduated from a university which takes English as a major language will find a better or high-quality job than other students who dont know English adequately. In other words, the student who knows English is able to be more efficient in his job because he can use the information from foreign sources and web sites. He can prepare his assignments and tasks with the help of these information. Therefore, undoubtedly, his managers would like his effort or prepared projects. In addition, many high-quality jobs are related with international communication and world-wide data sharing. University graduates who are in a international company and business are needed to communicate with foreign workers. For instance, if their managers want them to share the companys data, they are expected to know English. Moreover, they will even have to go business trip for their company. Absolutely, all of these depend on speaking English; as a result, new graduates have to know English in order to get a high-quality job, and the others, who dont know English, may have lack of communication and be paid less money. The second and the most important reason, for English to be the medium of instruction in the Turkish higher education system is that it enables students to communicate with the international world. In these days, in my opinion, the most important thing for both university students and graduates is to follow the development in technology. For this reason, they have to learn common language. Certainly, they should not lose their interest on communicating with the world. However, some of the university students cant obtain English education in their university. Unfortunately, these people may lose their communication with worldwide subjects and topics. In short, they will not communicate foreign people. To prevent these people from lacking of speaking English, universities

administration will provide English education to them. In addition, university students can use some specific hardware and software of computers with their English to communicate others. For example, the Internet, which, in my opinion, is the largest source in the world, based on English knowledge and information. Also, most of the software such as Windows, Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer are firstly written in English, and these programs are the basic vital things for communication over computer. That is to say, even in a little research about something, they need these programs and the Internet to find necessary sources and information. The last reason for favoring English as the medium of instruction of Turkish universities is that it facilitates accessing information. All of the students have to do some projects or homework which are related with their field during the university education. In these projects or homework, they have to find some information which is connected with their subject. They find sources from English web sites and books, but they have to replace these data to their projects. During these process, if they know English, they will not come across with any difficulty, but if they dont know, even they may not use these data. As a result, the student who knows English will be more successful at his/her project. For this reason, to obstruct possible inequity between students, management of universities should accept English as a second language in order to provide accessing information to the students. In short, university students need to know English to access information. All in all, the education in universities should be done with English for three reasons. First, students who know English are able to find their favorite job related with their field. Second, they can communicate with others internationally. Third, as a major language in universities, English makes accessing information easy for students. In my opinion, internationally, people need one common language. For many years, English has been the common world-wide language, and it will be in the future. For this reason, if you want to follow trends, new gadgets and technology, modernization of the developing world, you have to know English whatever age you are in. ADVANTAGES AND DISANDVANTAGES OF CELL PHONES
Has it happened to you that sometimes you go out but forgot your cell phone at home and so youre not feeling complete. Theres a feeling somewhere inside that youre missing something, a sense of insecurity sometimes prevails welcome to the world of cell phone addiction! Cell phones are having a great influence in our live and are very convenient to keep with us. Cell phones are a faster and more effective way to transfer information. Indeed, it is a resource that gives its users great advantages. They say, if something is of great utility (usage, etc), it will surely have its own problems as well; cell phones are no exception. In earlier times cell-phone used to be a craze, symbol of money and success but nowadays even kids find it a necessity of life.

I would want to list some quick good and bad things about a typical cell phone. The list is not typical to any phone, just a generalization. Advantages :

The more you talk, the more you know how to talk and the better your communication skills become. This is applicable if youre a sensible person and keep note of your interacting habits over the phone. It can be a communication tutorial! Nothing more than a cell phone comes to great help in emergency. You are driving by the freeway and the vehicle jams and cell phone comes to your rescue. You are stuck in a lone place, again call somebody and ask for directions. Parents can be a little less worried about their kids by being in constant touch with them. If youre a net-savvy, you can have Internet handy all the time and anywhere the signal of your cell phone provider can reach. Trendy and stylish cell phones can be used as a bait to receive attention. It can be part of fashion and styling. From the industry and economy point of view, cell phone companies (communication industry) is flourishing with market capital in billions. This is a good thing for the economy to be smooth and healthy. Companies find it yet another medium to advertise their products; so another medium to reach the consumers. Nowadays, cell phones are not just phone calls; theyre about messaging, vidoe, songs, games, alarm clock, notes, calendar, reminder, etc. So one equipment, lots of uses! Although cell phone use can be dangerous while driving but sometimes it can be a time-saver - you are driving and simultaneously discussing some urgent matter as well. A sensible and only urgent usage during driving can be a great help at times.

Dis-advantages :

Some people (especially teens) get so much addicted to cell phones for talking, video, messaging, games, etc that they forget the real purpose of the phone and waste large part of their time in unnecessary interaction over their cell phones. Nothing more can be a distraction for a teacher in the classroom, when a students phone rings. Cell phones are increasingly becoming a problem for the schools during classroom hours and are becoming a means of cheating during examinations and other kinds of ability tests. All this is really bad and does hurt the future of the student, who doesnt realize that he/she is him/her-self responsible for it. Health of those living in the vicinity of cell phone towers is becoming a growing concern. Towers result into an area with concrete development along with destruction of natural features (vegetation etc) around the place. The towers also emit strong electromagnetic signals, which can be health hazard for those living nearby and who are getting exposed to strong radiations continuously during a good span of their lives.

While remaining in touch is good thing but sometimes it becomes annoying to have to deal with continuous incoming phone calls. You are on a vacation and your boss calls up, how does that sound! Cell phone monthly bills are usually more than a landline bill. Sometimes, we may not require to have a cell phone but we still buy one and start paying monthly bills; so it increases our monthly/recurring expenses. Use of hands-free (wired/blue-tooth) can at times pass on loud sounds to our ears which can result in weakening of ear-drums. Nowadays, one can download lots of songs, so keeping the hands-free glued inside your ears for long hours can really affect the sensitivity of ears in the long run of life. There have been cases of cell phone blasts, due to the excessive heating up of its battery. This can be a fatal issue; although rare. No joke, the surface of a cell phone has millions of bacteria and virus on it and that can be a strong reason of immediate skin problem on face or can result into other internal infections wherein the microbes creep inside the body through mouth or other openings. Some use the keypad excessively; due to size restrictions the buttons and keypad of the cell phone are not natural for human hands; so excessive and prolonged typing can be an issue for fingers and finger joints. The continuous exposure of signal to and from our cell phone can be a cancer concern, although to a meager amount- research is still going on. However, the mobile phone industry has long resisted any suggestion of a link to cancer, though it accepts that mobile phone radiation does affect the electrical activity in the brain. The battery parts and other electronic parts of a cell phone can be environmental hazard if not disposed off properly through approved means. A cell phone can be helpful while driving and talking in case of urgent matters but increasingly it is becoming cause of accidents because it deviates the attention of a driver; human brain can do only one thing at a time (however small span of time it may be). It can be a big time distraction and nuisance in calm and silent places like libraries, cinemas, restaurants, etc. Some cell phone users lose the sense of deciding when and where they can talk on the cell phone and where they cant, without slightest consideration for the fellow beings around. The mobile phone advertisements through messages are becoming a pain for the cell phone users. Your SIM can be exploited as tracking device and if youre an important person then that can be a big concern for you.

Having said all about cell phones, I think they are one of the biggest boons humanity ever had. If used properly and sensibly, cell phone can be a wonderful piece of utility in life and most of its disadvantages will simply be insignificant.

How to Protect the Environment Essay

Short Essay on Pollution and Environment Protection Act Environment is an important part of human life and a healthy environment is a must for human existence. Therefore, it is crucial that we take care of our surroundings and help nature maintain ecological balance so that we could hand over to the coming generations the environment as we found it, if not any better.

In the recent past there has been a lot of damage to the ecology. Air, water and soil have been polluted and there appears to be no decisive end to it. The scientific advancement and rapid industrialization has taken its toll. The excessive use of pesticides by our farmers has turned even underground water unsafe for consumption. The law had to control the worsening situation and so Parliament enacted the Environment Protection Act, which is the most comprehensive law on environment protection. The Act came in the wake of the Stockholm declaration by the United Nations Conference. The steps taken for the environmental protection include co-ordination of actions of State governments, officers and other authorities laying down standards for the quality of environment, and the standards for emission or discharge of pollutants from various sources. It is statutorily prohibited to discharge environment pollutant in excess of the prescribed standards, and so is the handling of hazardous substances except in accordance with the safety procedures. The Public Liability Insurance Act, 1991 provides for immediate financial assistance to the victims of industrial accidents. No other Supreme Court in the world has spent as much time and shown as much concern as the Supreme Court of India in addressing environmental issues. This may well be on account of the lethargic approach of the other two branches of the State in this regarding. Public Interest Litigation proved to be an effective tool and citizens has legitimate access for approaching the Supreme Court and the High Courts to prevent damage to the environment.

How to Protect The Environment A very good morning to our dear respectable lecturer, Miss Zakiah bt Abd Wahab and my fellow friends. Today, I would like to talk about How to Protect the Environment. Nowadays, we live in a global consumer society. People across the world purchase, use, and dispose a huge variety of products which make our lives easier and more comfortable. However, the result of this is massive damage to our environment. There are some ways we can do in order to protect the environment. Dear audience, First of all, every one of us can start by not littering. We should throw our rubbish into the rubbish bin instead of anywhere we like. Once I went strolling at a park nearby my house but was I was disappointed at the sight of rubbish. I saw many empty cans and plastic wrappers lying around. They do not only spoil the beautiful park but they are the best breeding place for AEDES mosquitoes. Another way of protecting our environment is by keeping our rivers clean. We can play our role by not throwing rubbish into the rivers. Meanwhile, the factories can stop dumping their toxic waste into them. Plastic wrappers which made up 80% of the rubbish can endanger the fish and other aquatic lives while toxic waste can kill them. We, human will consequently suffer as we rely on the rivers for food and water. Moreover, farmers should avoid open burning in their farming practice because it pollutes the air. Open burning can lead to haze which contains poisonous gases such as carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide. These

gases can cause many serious diseases. Children who breathe the polluted air may suffer from asthma and some people may even suffer from rashes and eye-diseases. Finally, we can practice the 3R; Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Every household should aim at reducing the amount of rubbish thrown. To achieve this aim, each member of the household can refuse plastic carriers when he goes shopping. We can bring a recyclable carrier or a...

what we should do to protect our environment

i am inspires by the society itself. the environment at risk, which is why the neighborhood should do something about it even the nitty-gritty things Singapore, being a state-of-the-art country has endowed us with advanced infrastructure and profitable facilities for us to make good use of, but what have we, humans, done to it? Each morning when we wake up, unpleasant sights like piles of cigarette butts, tissue paper and empty drink cans can be observed. Havent we realized that we have not taken the responsibility to take care of our surroundings? We need people to be more civic consciousness and take pride in their neighborhood, rather than be constrained by fear of punishment. The quandary here is that the environment, along with the modernized facilities has been exploited mainly because of lack of knowledge of the environmental effects of littering. This is undeniably what we would not want to see occurring on Gods green earth. For starting, sending photographs of dirty blocks to the residents to remind them of the impact of littering would open their eyes to how damage the environment is. To be considerate is to understand to one another. A benefit of this would be how such foul pictures of filthy neighborhood would indirectly and unwittingly remind human beings that the environment is better off embraced than exploited. This means that neighbors living in a HDB flat should and must have the thought of cleaning their own vicinity. One who is considerate will not take accountability of his or her area. This would result to major filth and grime. It as clear that a mucky neighborhood is in need of a make-over which is why the community should plan some activities such as clean-up days, to get the neighborhood kids involved in their community and in the habit of keeping it clean. A clean up is a large investment of time and energy, but there are many benefits to organizing a neighborhood clean up. A clean up obviously improves the image of the neighborhood, both literally and mentally as it gives the residents an opportunity to appropriately dispose of waste. Clean-ups can also be events that encourage residents to be involved in their community establishing lasting relationships with local organizations and can demonstrate a commitment to neighborhood maintenance and preservation. Not only does this help produce a clean and green neighborhood, it also establishes good neighborhood relationships and a sense of civic mindedness in particular towards our environment. As aforementioned, the neighborhood has been exploited mainly because of lack of knowledge of the environmental. It is important that the community has some kind of educational programmers to educate the residents living in the district. Through public education and enforcement, this campaign will work to engage individuals to take a greater responsibility for improving their community environment. It is also important for people to be encouraged and enthusiastic in keeping not only the neighborhood, but also the environment clean. With this, it enables the residents to change their behaviors and improve the community by focusing on litter prevention and embellishment programs with an additional emphasis on waste reduction and recycling. Changing attitudes about waste and its handling reduces litter and dumping. The government should organize a campaign that can help in important ways like cleaning up the trash that has been selflessly left behind, and preventing it from building back up again. Educating

and involving people help them appreciate their environment more and learn that their actions matter. Trash and litter are a unifying issue. The majority of the complaints, from what that has been researched, are about trash and litter. Education, enforcement, preservation and embellishment are the means that can be used to address the quandary and revolutionize peoples mind-set about their part in the clarification. It provides a structure for modification. With a campaign to stand behind, more people will stand up to fight against litter. However all these programs are in need of people. Without the efforts of the people living in the neighborhood, there would be no need for all of these campaigns, as it would just go to waste. Which is why it is important to launch program to gain awareness. To do this the community can design and develop promotional materials, including logo, flyers and stickers. They can also create a website section where people can view and educate themselves via computers. Increasingly, they can also announce the campaign to the neighborhood via newsletters and appearances at neighborhood meetings. By doing so, the neighborhood can continue to be proactive and follow through with the neighborhood on enforcement and maintenance issues It is not a widespread knowledge that the milieu is kept clean due to the army of foreign workers employed to keep our country clean. The shortage of cleaning manpower in the future and the cost of hiring foreign workers to clean Singapore threaten the clean and green image of Singapore aims to achieved globally. We must not sit back and put the burden of keeping our country clean solely on the Town Councils and their cleaners. Every one of us should be sensitive of the state of cleanliness of our very own area. Nobody likes to live in an area with trash everywhere and all types of pollution. Unfortunately, many people live in this type of place, but there are ways they can contribute to making the area nicer for everyone around. First of all, set a good example and don't litter. Besides the fact that you would not be contributing to the trash on the ground, other people may see what you do and follow suit .This is especially true if someone is somewhat famous in his or her neighborhood. If a neighborhood is always plagued by litter, organize a town cleanup. This can be done by schools, residential committee, clubs, or any other groups of people willing to help pick up the litter. For example, on Thursday, April 19th, 2001, the WUNA Livability Action Group had set up a program, Neighborhood Cleanup where a group of volunteers from a district area come together to clean up the area. They have cleaned up a total of 32 square blocks. Moreover, according to the volunteers, not only did they beautify the area, they had the opportunity to meet neighbors they did not know before. This will help build foster bonds in the neighborhood. There are a lot of things that can be benefited from this program because if people have work their hardest in making the neighborhood environmentally healthy, they would have a conducive place to get to know each other, not as neighbors, but as friends. Apart from educational programs, people living in the neighborhood should be on their feet up volunteering themselves to be in some kind of a watch group. More willingly than idling around, not doing anything beneficial, these people are ought to be more wholehearted to help contribute to the cleanliness of their neighborhood. Basically, this is a program whereby volunteers petrol around the district area to make sure that no brat or scoundrel are up to no good in keeping the surroundings clean. If more people were to volunteer themselves, there would be no need to litter or altruistically dumping ones trash behind, hence making their neighborhood clean and green like it is expected to be. Once they have cleaned up the neighborhood, the trick is to keep it clean rather than let it gradually become full of litter again. That just defeats the whole point. You need follow-through. That means regular litter patrols by you and other volunteers, but also some vigilance and a sense of pride and education that encourages people not to litter in the neighborhood. Petition the council to provide an adequate number of litters bins to and empty them regularly. Although it takes work, and some organization, but you can help clean up your neighborhood and keep it clean for a much more pleasant place. Like a tree without its foliage, this expression would correspond perfectly to a neighborhood with inconsiderate people, not helping out in keeping their area clean. This would result to chaos and mishaps making the neighborhood would look like a remote island filled with rubbish. We need everyone in the neighborhood to help out regardless of race, age or position to ensure the purity of their neighborhood. It only takes one person to make a difference in the spotlessness of

the area, which is why everyone should do his or her part to contribute to the community. Keeping Singapore clean does not only mean keeping that particular area clean, but also to beautify it with embellishments. If one has some waste ground, once its been cleaned, it would be a great idea to plant some flowerbeds there. It is possible to persuade the residents a garden center to donate plants, and it should be easy enough to find those willing to help put them in the ground. It beautifies the neighborhood and gives everyone a sense of pride. Of course, it will need regular weeding, watering and tending, but then again, it should be easy to find volunteers. People tend to forget that we have the opportunity to have a say in decision-making. People look out if there is anything the neighborhood could be doing to help keep the area clean. For example, if one feels that there are not enough trash cans around the district area or that your town does not have a good recycling program, it is possible for them to write to the appropriate people to let them know so that they can make the neighborhood a pleasant place to live in. However, there are drawbacks to these plans and activities. Would the residents really and truly benefit from the programmers or at least have the grace to be present? What has happened to the minds of these people? It has been said that the cleaners, working their hardest to keep the neighborhood clean, are not doing their work properly. But the truth is, these cleaners are doing their job in cleaning our rubbish that we have selflessly left in the area. They would sweep the neighborhood clean, but the following morning, loads rubbish everywhere again. 'Without our cleaners, I think Singapore would have become a garbage city.' As for the people in the residential area who litter, there are some leading factors to their horrendous littering behavior. Firstly, once litter that has already accumulated, more people are inclined to littering as more litter are present. Secondly, people who litter often feel no sense of pride in the areas they are littering. Next, there is lack of social pressure to do the right thing. Lastly, people litter when they think someone will come behind them and clean it up. If all of the people did the actions listed above, this will result to the devastating amplification of the amount of rubbish left unreasonably. If it were in the hands of the government and the parents of youths to foresee a plan to build a better tomorrow, the actual architects of the future would be the youth of the nation today. The future that lies before us depends on the efforts put in by the youths. The youth of today has to be up to carry forward not only the neighborhoods hopes, but also their countrys hopes for the future. If they are not prepared to face the future, not only would the situation be filthy, but also the population of pests like cockroaches or rats would increase drastically too resulting to major spread of diseases that can harm the lives of human beings. The youths of today have the inevitable task of trying to help the ones that has lesser knowledge of neighborhood cleanliness too. With this, they can all unite to build a better tomorrow. All said, whether cleaning or beautifying the neighborhood, the strength of our neighbors working together is in deniably unconquerable. With the efforts of our working people, the environment in such vicinity will be utterly clean to admire the gifts bestowed upon mother nature with respect with the advanced facilities that man has provided us with..
