Quality Improvement, Performance Management, and Information Technology in Health Care Organizations
Health care organizations are under increasing scrutiny as a result of recent reports revealing widespread medical errors, increased clinical and staff turnover due to workplace dissatisfaction, and poor financial performance. Responding to these reports, health care organizations are implementing methods to improve quality along several dimensions, including patient care and safety, effectiveness of health care operations, staff and customer satisfaction, and financial improvement. To effect changesand performance improvement, health organizations need to implement complex information and performance management systems. This course introduces students to the variety of tools and programs available to the health care manager and professional responsible for providing the best care in the most effectively run organization. Topics include the manager's role in quality management; fundamentals of quality management; consumerism and customer service; understanding health care improvement in complex systems, information systems, and technology; use of data; quality improvement tools and methods; issues in implementing quality management programs; and the role of cross-functional teams, regulatory accreditation, and environmental expectations. Required course in Certificate in Health Care Management and Leadership. This course is open to all students, certificate candidacy is not required. Refunds
A service charge of $30 is withheld from all refunds (full refund if course is canceled, discontinued, or rescheduled). Refund request must be postmarked or phoned in by the last business day before the first class meeting for courses with one to five meetings, before the second meeting for courses with six to eight meetings, and before the third class meeting for courses with nine or more meetings.

Parking
Evening parking permits, valid after 4:30pm, Monday-Thursday, may be purchased when you enroll (see enrollment form). Allow 10 working days for permits requested by mail.
