APN PHILOSOPHY My personal philosophy as an advanced practice nurse will be to do no harm, incorporate client centered holistic care, utilize evidenced based practice guidelines to provide high quality care, and advocate for health promotion. The Nursing Code of Ethics emphasizes an obligation to maintain safety and the well being of patients in healthcare settings. Utilizing evidence based practice guidelines and ethical standards of care will promote a safe environment striving to enhance physical conditions and improve quality of life . OBJECTIVES After graduating as an advanced practice nurse, I plan to continue working at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in a leadership position and advocate for our profession. I can utilize knowledge translation to improve client care and nursing practices by assisting in program development, implementation and evaluation. GOALS My goal as an advanced practice nurse is: To do no harm Employ evidence based practice guidelines Implement or enhance client centered patient care Endorse health promotion Adhere and promote quality measures Individualize treatment to specific to patient health needs Consider ethical issues, age specific, and culture sensitivity Collaborate with multidisciplinary team to promote continuity of care Encourage education Respect the practice setting ROLE DESCRIPTION As an advanced practice nurse, I plan to incorporate my clinical expertise and prioritize in implementing individualized treatment for patients. I will assume responsibility and accountability for continuity of care for treatment and services provided. An effort will be concentrated on timely and accurate diagnosis and treatment priority with appropriate

referral follow up. Education will be the element to patient care and will emphasis health promotion. I plan to continue to remain an advocate for patients and extend the service currently provided using the higher level of education. Collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare professions is essential to provide high quality safe and effective patient care. My respect and protection to advanced practice nursing will be accomplished by participating in legislative and professional organizations to continue gaining knowledge and guide proper decision-making. In summary, the overall goal in my role will be to promote evidence based, up-to-date diagnosis and treatment, collaborate with healthcare professionals, implement health promotion, encourage education as the key foundation to patient care and respect the practice setting.
